  1. I would have, but I didn't want to lose all my posts.
  2. That doesn't shock me. There's a lot of different opinions on registration, that's why I'm asking. I disagree with the statement Democrats don't force social/religious ideology on people, but I don't wish to detour into a argument about a specific law or policy. I believe directly or indirectly, in minor and major ways, nearly all new law emanating from the government restricts freedom, and that has to be weighed against the payoff. You don't get much argument when you say a law against armed robbery should result in the restriction of freedom of a convicted felon. Where I tend to disagree wildly with some posters is the policies that everyone else seems to be on board with, that have real and lasting effects on those they help - I don't think the restrictions those policies place on everyone else's freedoms puts the scales in a favorable position. And I think there's too many laws that sounded like a good idea at the time, but place uneccessary restrictions on what would have been otherwise law-abiding citizens. I'm not sure if a national primary day is necessary; if they were all within a week or so of each other I think it would put an end to much of the favoritism. But I like the idea of not having primaries until late summer/early fall.
  3. Not a bad idea if you support a major political party, but I'm not inclined to support a candidate from either major political party, so I'm not sure it really applies to me. The "lesser of two evils" vote is not a path on which I wish to continue.
  4. Since I recently moved, I need to re-register to vote. As much as the economy or foreign policy dominates the headlines, I try to frame my vote around what I believe the role of the federal, state and local governments should be, and which candidate more closely represents my views on this. I agreed with President Reagan when he said "it is my intention to curb the size and influence of the federal establishment and to demand recognition of the distinction between the powers granted to the federal government and those reserved to the states or to the people" - and I supported him. I agreed with Republicans in 1994 when they promised to to cut taxes, reduce federal spending and eliminate unneeded bureaucracy in the "Contract with America" - and I supported them. Times have changed, and the current GOP still talks conservatively, but actions speak louder than words. 1987 - President Reagan vetoes a transportation bill with 152 pork-barrel projects. 2005 - President Bush signs a transportation bill with over 6,500 pork-barrel projects. I can't decide if I want to re-register as a Republican so I can still vote in the primaries (Florida is a closed-primary state), or if I should register Independent, and ignore the primaries. Anyone want to try to convince me to stick with the GOP? Anyone wish to make the argument for registering Independent and never looking back? Democrats and other Socialists need not apply; you're words will fall on deaf ears.
  5. That was no goon. The guy killed 16 Czechoslovakians, and he was an interior decorator.
  6. *pointing to head* "Up here, I'm already gone."
  7. Just great. I lived down the block from a Bills' legend, and I never even knew it. I think they lived on Woodmere on the opposite end of Millwood from me, but I never went to their house. I would just see Lenora in school and around the neighborhood from time to time riding her bike. I was in Lenora's grade in middle school. I remember her as an all around sweetheart of a girl. Yet another reason to regret my wasted youth.
  8. Did Tom Day have a daughter by the name of Lenora?
  9. That truck blew up at the quarry off Wherle Drive about 1000ft away from my house on Connection. I think it was full of blasting caps. It was heard up to 30 miles away. That'll wake you up first thing in the morning.
  10. If riders who crash are dying because there's no bucket on their noggin, there is no one being forced to pay their hospital bill - they're dead. Why does something that's common sense need to be legislated?
  11. I watched until halftime. Highlights were: a shot of "all the Miami fans" in the crowd and there's a young kid up front, pulls his hat off and holds it out at the camera and yells as he's pointing at the BILLS logo on it. and the sign I saw that said "LACES OUT DAN Congratulations, Ray Finkle"
  12. I'm hoping it stands for Jack Pot. I'd be willing to accept Jet Pilot or Jet Propelled; I hope he doesn't end up Just Playing.
  13. Don't feel too bad, they're hometown boys. BTW, Leonhard is a real player. Awfully small for the NFL, but he impressed me during that scrimmage.
  14. Of course, "hopefully" in this case meaning "Hopefully nothing happens to the jersey in the next year".
  15. We're all friends here; you can call him Norman.
  16. One of my favorite things about this coaching staff is I don't know what they're going to do next. I'm a big fan, but I have absolutely no business being able to guess what's coming next. If you're not able to surprise me, I don't think you're going to catch the opposing team off guard. I've been correctly guessing way too many plays the last few years before these guys arrived. I like these coaches.
  17. I used to think that too, until I saw him run an interception back for a touchdown.
  18. In between the KH/JP competition for starting QB idea and the comparisons to HOF'ers (JK) and future HOF'ers (Fav-ruh), there are some more even-handed critiques here. After one week of training camp, I thought the whole team looked good.
  19. Me too. I think it ended up clocking 2 hrs 28 minutes. Re-Tivo'ed one of the replays to get it all on one recording. It's on again right now.
  20. He will have a better RB for the whole season, and an even or better WR corps to work with than Drew had last year. He'll have to achieve Drew Bledsoe-level performance to get to 9-7. To put it in a reasonably optimistic, positive light.
  21. Nope, no FG attempts. Someone had a horrible looking kickoff (they didn't say who, and I couldn't read his number). Lindell had a on-side kick attempt that was recovered by GB. Planted it into the ground pretty well, good bounce, but traveled a little too far and fast to give his players a shot at it.
  22. "The Packers lost backup running back Najeh Davenport to a right ankle injury, the extent of which wasn't immediately known." When Terrence McGee absolutely PLANTED him. Sorry he was injured, but seeing the perfect execution of a tackle by a player on someone who's bigger than he is is pretty sweet. Which reminds me, I hope #42/Leonard (sp?) makes it somewhere if not on the Bills; from what I saw late in the scrimmage, that kid's a player.
  23. Just the title of the thread had me reaching for the fire extinguisher before I opened it. I'll just keep it near the monitor.
  24. That would be a very nice thing to do. I would be proud to participate in a TBD collective donation.
