Totally agree. We're averaging 123 yards passing per game because our QB is completely lost out there. He's a big kid with a canon arm who has no idea how to play QB in a structured system. He's not learning anything on the field and appears to be developing bad habits in the pocket. He's running when there's no pressure and doesn't appear to make any effort in going through his reads. All he's doing is looking for his #1 read, and if it's not there he's immediately looking to run.
-
All the reports that looked at just the data said he was a terrible prospect. Traditional scouts liked him, but they're wrong all the time.
-
In what sense? Are you saying he's not the worst starting QB in the league?
-
Every advanced scouting report that analyzed data and ignored the fact that he's 6'5, 240 said he should be nothing more than a developmental mid to late round pick. So far Allen has looked as advertised, and is far and away the worst starting QB in the league right now.

For every guy like Goff who got significantly better after year 1, there are at least 5 guys who didn't get better and went on to be complete busts. Allen might be Goff, or he might be EJ Manuel, Kyle Boller, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, Patrick Ramsey, JP Losman, Josh Freeman, Paxton Lynch, Blaine Gabbert, Brandon Weeden, Christian Ponder, Johnny Manziel, Jake Locker, Christian Hackenberg, Geno Smith, Jimmy Clausen, Brian Brohm, etc, etc, etc. Most QBs don't work out. The vast majority of QBs who were terrible year 1 don't go on to be successful franchise players.

Whenever they show replays of Allen in the pocket, I find he's usually not looking down field. He's usually looking at the defenders around him, or trying to find the LB he needs to outrun for a first down. As soon as there's any pressure or his #1 guy isn't open, Allen's eyes drop. That's a really bad trait for a QB to have.
-
Allen struggles to complete passes that go more than 5 yards down field. He had one nice throw the Benjamin for 39, and a dump off to McCoy for 22. His other 9 completions combined went for 23 yards. All Allen has proven capable of doing is throwing wide receiver screens and dump offs around the LOS. As you said, if we get sacked, or take a penalty, we might as well punt because we can't convert 1st downs after we get behind the sticks because we're so awful at passing the ball.
-
I haven't seen any signs of learning. If anything Allen's pocket awareness and itch to run at the first sign of pressure has been getting worse. As the thread title states, Allen hasn't shown any progress.
-
OL has been fine the last couple games. We desperately need a QB who can regularly complete passes more than 5 yards down field.
-
I see a guy who only looks for his #1 receiver, and if they're not open he panics and tries to run. On 3rd downs, he barely looks at his primary read. You can tell before the ball is snapped that Allen is only thinking about running. There's no effort being made to try and read the defense when it's 3rd and less than 7 yards to go and we call a pass play. We're averaging 123 yards passing per game for a reason. Our QB is totally lost out there.
-
Luxury? Our biggest hole by an enormous margin is QB. If we had a decent QB we'd have a really good team. Unfortunately we have the worst QB situation in the NFL.
-
I don't see any hesitation. I see a guy who isn't even trying to read the defense. He looks like a complete deer in the headlights out there. The game is way too fast for him and his instinct is to just bail out of the pocket and run because that's what worked for him in college.
-
Another stupid stat: The Bills are averaging 123 yards passing per game. Adam Thielen is averaging 119 yards receiving per game. Our QB play is so bad it's unbelievable.
-
When Peterman came in guys were open. He can't get the ball there or read a defense, but guys were open. Allen isn't even looking for an open receiver most of the time. If his primary read isn't immediately open, he instantly looks to tuck the ball and run regardless of whether there's any pressure on him.
-
This feels like the EJ Manuel situation all over again. The Bills brought in no plan B for EJ's 2nd year. He was so bad in preseason they had to bring Kyle Orton out of retirement. That team went 9-7. The Bills would be wise to bring in someone like Orton as soon as free agency starts. If Allen stinks in preseason again, you go to the vet immediately and try to ride a great defense to the post season.
-
The Bills are a QB away from being a really good team. If they could find someone who could throw for 200 yards a week and take care of the football, they'd probably challenge for a playoff spot this year. It's got to be demoralizing to be a defender on this team. They're doing their job only to be kicked in the gut by an offense that can't score.
-
Unfortunately I agree, but I think they have to bring in some sort of plan B. If they tie their wagon to Allen again, and he's no better than the crap we've watched this year, they're all getting fired. I dunno which veteran QBs are available, but a high end backup plus a 2nd round QB makes a lot of sense. The defense is elite, and we have $90 mil in cap space to spend on a WR and an Offensive Lineman (the line has been much better the last few weeks), and then keep plugging holes on the defense. The only remaining hole which will hold us back is QB, and they need to actually bring in help at that spot next season.
-
The Bills don't need to admit they missed on Allen and have it count against them. The issue is that this GM and HC need to be winning next year, or else they risk getting fired. If they hitch their wagon to Allen without any plan B, and the defense remains dominant but the team is held back by inept QB play, there's a real problem. This team is a QB away from being really good. They need to continue doing everything possible to find a top 10 QB.
-
Allen has looked like a 3rd string QB. Aside from his running ability, which defenses have begun taking away with a simply spy, there has been very little about his game that suggests he's going to make it long term. His pocket presence is deteriorating and we have no passing game whatsoever with him under centre. I thought he'd be bad, but our offense has been unwatchable with him on the field.
-
Tyrod had the exact same supporting cast last year. The supporting cast is awful, but the QB play is by far the worst in the NFL.
-
It's never been this bad. We have an historically bad offense right now that's averaging under 13 points per game.
-
The Bills need to pick another QB in round 1. The defense is elite, the kicking game is elite, and the run game can be good. All we need is a decently good QB. That's by far the biggest thing holding this team back at this point.
-
Someone just compared him to Logan Thomas. That's a great comparison. Allen might be big, strong and fast, but he has no idea how to play QB. He's taken our passing game back to the stone age of professional football.
-
Allen looks exactly as advertised on the scouting reports. He looks like a guy who should have been picked in the 4th or 5th round who would compete for a roster spot. He looks completely outmatched out there. There's been no progress since the Bengals preseason game.
-
The Bills QB situation is a complete disaster. Josh Allen has shown no progress this year. If anything he's getting worse and is bailing the pocket way before he needs to. His passing has mostly been horrendous and we have no intermediate pass game whatsoever. All we do are throw screens around the line and throw bombs 30+ yards down field. There's simply nothing in between when he's on the field and that's not enough at the NFL level. On 3rd down he's not even looking for his receivers and is just looking to run to first downs because he doesn't appear capable of reading what the defense is doing. I thought Allen would be bad, but he's looked completely outmatched. He looks like you'd expect a 3rd string QB with no talent to look if asked to play because the 1st and 2nd stringers got hurt. Nate Peterman isn't an NFL player, or he's cursed or something. If he's on the field, terrible things seem to always happen. He should be cut tomorrow and a new player should be brought in. I'm never a believer in saying this, but it can't possibly be any worse. Our defense is truly elite, and they're being completely let down by our historically awful offense that can't move the ball and can't score. If this team had relatively competent QB play they might be 4-2 right now instead of 2-4.
