This is a complete joke. How on earth do you get to the point where you're starting a guy off the street in week 7 who doesn't know the playbook?

You can pick Allen if you have a legitimate starting option on the roster who can keep him on the bench. Drafting him and putting him in a competition with Nate Peterman and AJ McCarron was completely insane. Trading up for a guy with the 7th overall pick who has no business being on the field was nuts. I get that we're not drafting a finished product, but with how overwhelmed he's been this year it's hard to imagine he's anything more than a long shot at becoming a franchise QB, and we drafted that guy with a top 10 pick.

I have no idea if that's true. This is the most incompetent QB play I've seen since JP Losman in 2006. It's hard to evaluate anything happening on offense when you're this bad at the QB spot every week.

There was no reason to trade Tyrod and put ourselves in this position. Absolutely mind boggling how they talked themselves into going into this season with just Peterman and Allen as the only QBs on the roster.

It's unbelievable how badly the Bills mismanaged their QB position this season. This is the most incompetent offense I've ever seen from this franchise.

Agreed. No reason to sugar coat anything. Rosen was absolutely abysmal last night. That coaching staff might legitimately deserve to be fired 5 games into their tenure. Their team looks unprepared on a weekly basis, has no game plan whatsoever to take advantage of their skill players, is getting zero effort from their players and made the mistake of converting a pretty good 3-4 defense into a really bad 4-3 defense. That situation in Arizona from top to bottom is a disaster.

When do raw QBs ever learn to read a defense once they get to the NFL? Josh Allen's college game tape didn't lie.

Allen is more talented than all of them. The issue is that he's extremely unskilled. Who cares if you can throw a football 80 yards if you can't read a defense?

Agreed. When a QB is "raw", it just means that they're terrible on tape but have really good measureables. None of these guys ever go onto become quality NFL QBs. EJ Manuel, JP Losman, Kyle Boller, Josh Freeman, Akili Smith, Vince Young, Paxton Lynch, Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker, etc. They were all "raw" QBs who were complete busts as 1st round picks. The only projects who have had success were Joe Flacco coming out of Div 3, who had immediate success, and Pat Mahomes, who threw for a billion yards in college but needed to learn to operate out of a structured offense. I don't think Allen is comparable to either of them. I think Allen's closest comps are Blaine Gabbert and Paxton Lynch. Big, strong, athletic QBs who can run around, who never put it all together in college and were colossal busts in the NFL. EDIT Pro days are the stupidest thing going. Every year I ask why anyone on earth gives a crap about watching a QB throw scripted throws in the most controlled environment you could possibly imagine. What happens on an NFL field is pure chaos. It's the exact opposite of what happens at a pro day. There are 22 guys, all doing something different, and each of them plays a part in the success or failure of any given play. I will never understand how watching a guy throw rehearsed passes at a pro day in shorts and a t shirt has any impact whatsoever on how that QB will perform when under live fire on a real NFL field.

My concern is that he's never been a star at any level of football. He was an unrecruited high school player, a mediocre JUCO QB, and a middle of the road QB in the Mountain West Conference. As for work ethic, I think it's overrated at the NFL level because 99% of the QBs in the NFL have a great work ethic. Tim Tebow worked harder than anyone and he was one of the worst QBs to start in the NFL over the past 10 years. It's one thing to have talent, and it's another to have skill. Allen has tons of talent, but he's not skilled. He can throw a football 80 yards, but he can't consistently complete 5 yard passes for a whole host of reasons. Maybe he'll work out. I don't think he will and that's based off the fact that all the guys drafted with Josh Allen's type of skill set and set of flaws haven't worked out in the NFL over the past 20 years, combined with the awful play I've witnessed from him as our QB so far.

Very little. He's hamstrung by the worst starting QB in the NFL. When Peterman went in, guys were all of a sudden getting open. Peterman can't consistently get them the ball, or read a defense, but the scheme is getting guys open on downfield throws, the overwhelming issue has been that Josh Allen has happy feet and isn't willing to stand in the pocket when he feels pressure. Daboll is stuck having to hide a complete liability at the QB spot, so it's hard to judge him too much. Our #1 problem right now on offense has been Allen's inept play.

Josh Allen has looked terrible the last 3 games. That's all that needs to be said. If people want to wait and see with him, that's fine, but I don't get having to tear down other players just to make our situation seem less depressing. Right now no one who cheers for the Browns or Jets has any serious concerns about the long term development of their 1st round picks. Both have had ups and downs and are taking their lumps like most rookies do. Even the Cardinals are probably satisfied with the direciton that Rosen is trending. As you said, Allen hasn't looked like an NFL player yet. 80 yards and 20 yards rushing is all he's been able to contribute so far on a consistent basis. He looks overwhelmed and completely lost by the speed of the game. Allen was an extremely risky pick when we selected him, and early signs are that he's the same guy now as he was at Wyoming which clearly isn't going to be good enough long term.

There hasn't been any. He's bailing out of the pocket faster and faster each game. He's not trusting his protection, and can't seem to get over his habit to run backwards from defenders which results in him walking into sacks (like the one Watt had on Sunday). On 3rd downs he rarely looks like he's even trying to read the defense. He's just dropping back, and looking at the linebackers trying to figure out how he can run for a 1st down. As is the case with pretty much every project QB who "fixes" their issues during the draft process, he's slowly but surely reverting back to the guy he was at Wyoming who can't consistently operate from the pocket and has hardly any ability to read a defense.

Goff was an elite college QB with high end production. Allen was just a guy in the Mountain West Conference.

The WGR radio guys (minus John Murphy) are all forward thinking football fans. None of them wanted Allen before we picked him, and they all already know this is going to end badly. This was the first week they got really critical of him. There were a lot of calls for them to put Allen on the bench for a month and let him learn, because he's obviously not learning anything on the field otherwise he'd show signs of improvement on the field. Guys like Allen never work out in the NFL. I don't know what we're hoping for but it's overwhelmingly likely it's not going to happen.

Project QBs who need to learn how to throw accurately or run a pro offense rarely work out in the NFL. For every successful guy, there were 10 who were completely useless. Allen would have made a good pick in the 4th round. For whatever reason we traded up and picked him 7th overall.

Tebow was a better passer than Allen.

A lot of people bailed on EJ by the end of his rookie year. Those people were right. Unfortunately Doug Whaley held out hope for two more years. Agree with both parts.

Ya, they also didn't play in 2018 when the rules are stacked in favour of it being pretty damn easy to throw for a lot of yards. In 1985 one QB threw for more than 4,000 yards. Last year eight guys did it. 80 yards passing nowadays is simply pathetic.

Allen should have never been a first round pick.

This should be a major concern for all Bills fans.

Allen hasn't looked like an NFL QB so far. For the past 3 games he's looked like a 3rd string QB who you have to completely hide to have any chance of winning a game. As I said, Beathard has hardly any talent, but he's accurate and he's in command of the offense. Who cares if you can throw a football 80 yards if you can't read a defense?

Beathard looks great. He's got minimal talent but he knows how to play the game.
