  1. Trudeau is a colossal hypocrite in everything he does. If any of his opponents had done this, he'd be calling for their resignation, but as we've seen numerous times before, the rules simply don't apply to him.
  2. Polls show the vast majority of Americans support some sort of universal healthcare.
  3. How is that a tough sell? I don't get how telling people they'll pay less overall for the same service is a tough sell.
  4. Trudeau should resign.
  5. I never said it's free. Taxes will obviously go up. I don't get how there can be no savings when everyone who uses this model pays considerably less for healthcare than the US.
  6. This is for elective surgery. If your life is in danger, you're taken care of immediately in Canada.
  7. When did I say it was free? I said it costs a fraction of what it costs in the US. Healthcare is literally something everyone will use at some point of their life. The system works all over the world, and in most developed countries healthcare is better, and much more affordable than in the US, who has the highest cost per capita in the world. In no other country can you go bankrupt because you got sick.
  8. The US is the only developed country where you get a bill. Everywhere else, if you go to a hospital, you're taken care of. No bills, no deductables, no copays. All for a fraction of the cost of US healthcare.
  9. Those were years ago. Anyways, the team is distancing themself likely for liability reasons. If someone dies, they're getting sued.
  10. One operates for profit, the other doesn't. That's literally the reason Americans pay more than anyone else in the world for healthcare. Yes. No other country in the world pays anywhere close to as much for healthcare as the US. All those other countries have universal healthcare.
  11. Thinking about this more, I think a big reason behind the Bills trying to squash this is due to liability. With the rise of social media, and so many videos going viral the last couple years, the lunatic fans seem to always be trying to one up each other. I'm no expert, but if people keep jumping off RVs onto tables, eventually something is going to go completely wrong, and someone will die. If that happens, I can only imagine the lawsuits that would come down the pipe on the team if it were on their property. Taking steps to eliminate this stuff at least shows the team isn't encouraging the mayhem.
  12. The fact that insurance is involved is why it's so expensive. The ACA forced insurance companies to cover the uninsurable, and to make the system worked they raised the rates of all their customers (similar to what auto insurers do) to keep their business model profitable. The key to keeping healthcare costs, or really any cost down is very simple. Eliminate the middle man.
  13. Cost of healthcare per capita: US - $9,892 per year Canada - $4753 per year Doctor earnings. Earnings by province. US healthcare is a disaster. It's by far the most expensive in the world, and there are no metrics that actually rank it as being the best. In many cases it ranks outside the top 10.
  14. They'll be alright. As of 2014, the average Family Doctor in Canada makes $271,000 per year, and the average surgeon makes $446,000. These people aren't capped at making minimum wage. Also, despite the inefficiency of big government, socialized healthcare around the world in most developed countries costs about half as much per capita as it does in the US. Even with all that waste, when you replace the insurance industry you save massive of amounts of money per person. A combination of government and corporations. When the government foots the bill, their focus is generally on preventing sickness vs treating it, which is what the American system is based around. The US system is designed to treat sick people because once they get sick that's when the industry makes it's money. The health industry in places like Canada, France, the UK, etc, doesn't want you getting sick in the first place.
  15. Agreed. Hard to jump to meaningful conclusions given we've played what looks like two of the worst five teams in the league. The Pats game is the real test and should set the tone for the following month.
  16. Because it's the only developed country where the government doesn't cap what companies can charge for medication. Bernie Sanders has gone over this numerous times, most recently going to Windsor, ON with a bunch of diabetics to buy insulin for $30, that would cost them something stupid like $800 in the US.
  17. Still wait and see but he's been better than expected this year. Hard to be too fired up about any QB who hasn't even play 16 games yet. My biggest gripe now is with the play calling. Need to feature Singletary and run the ball a bit more. Cut Zay Jones and give his role to Robert Foster, and let him try to take the top off a defense once or twice a game.
  18. Cracking down on the drunks before they get inside the stadium is a great idea. 99% of the fans act responsibly. Hopefully that's allowed to continue as it has been in the past.
  19. The US has the highest drug prices in the developed world by a huge margin. Again, it's not an issue in Canada. Or the UK, Australia, France, Japan, etc, etc, etc. The system you're terrified of works great all over the developed world, where healthcare is usually better, people live longer, and it all costs a fraction of what it costs in the United States.
  20. I don't understand how anyone could be surprised that Europeans smoke a lot. And their economy being in bad shape isn't exactly surprising either. Italy has hardly any commodity natural resources. All the oil they refine comes from North Africa which has been hit extremely hard given the turmoil there. Their banks were annihilated in 2008-2009. Most of their manufacturing is in northern Italy. They rely heavily on tourism, as it's the most visited tourist country in Europe. By almost every analysis that tracks quality of health care by country. In some rankings Canadian healthcare is ranked higher than American health care. Yes. When you eliminate private insurance companies and take away the middle man whose goal is to make a profit, costs obviously go down because you're doing things at cost as opposed to cost plus a mark up to pay shareholders. Canadian Doctors still make a ton of money, and they can supplement their income substantially by giving speeches or endorsing pharmaceutical products.
  21. And yet Italians live over 3.5 years longer on average than Americans.
  22. 20 years ago, some did, but it doesn't happen anymore. Canadian Healthcare is ranked as one of the best healthcare systems in the world.
  23. None of this is true in Canada where doctor's incomes are capped.
  24. Obviously taxes are going to go up, but health care will be covered by those new taxes as no one has to get private health insurance. Would be beneficial to her if she explained that.
  25. I'm going off the polls. When Trump took office, his disapproval rating was around 40%. After 3 months it's consistently been in the 51-56% range and his approval rating can't get above 42%. Despite what some people think. the polls in 2016 were accurate. National polls said Hilary would win by about 3 points just before the election, and she won the popular vote by 2 points. If current polls hold Trump is going to be destroyed in the next election. You can't trail by 10 points in the popular vote and have any hope of winning. With regards to savings, 58% of Americans have less than $1000 saved in the bank. They haven't seen anything double over the past 2.5 years because they don't have any money. Trump cut taxes, and with that money corporations have mostly just bought back stock and have invested hardly any of their savings into capital projects. Most of the benefits in the Trump economy have gone to corporations and the top 1%. Wages have mostly been kept in check, as has been the case for about 40 years. The stock market has done great, but most Americans have limited exposure to the markets. This upcoming election is going to be very interesting. Trump's base loved him, but a ton of people (likely more than 50% of the country) hate him. Biden (not my preference) is an easy choice for a lot of people because I think the perception is he won't screw anything up. He's not going to spook the markets, he's not going to revolutionize healthcare, etc. His platform will cater entirely to independent voters who can't stand Trump on a moral basis, and hardcore democrats will come along as well because they can't stand Trump for four more years.
