  3. My favorite memory of Bart was the behind the back flip to first when he smirked as he attempted it. "everything that's right with baseball " is spot on. Posted the story here about Bart wanting to come back as soon as I saw it. But it got better when my youngest told me and his older brother about it and we both already knew. To me that's everything that's right with baseball . My grandfather instilled a love for the game and it's characters in me and he would have loved Bart.
  4. Gotcha, my first thought was the split between wedding ceremony and reception was Covid-related. I hope it all works out for the best, regardless how it plays out.
  5. So the parents-only wedding is mid-August with a reception two weeks later with 100-150? To me that doesn't make sense unless it was planned all along. When my kids were growing up they were in car seats longer than other kids the same age. Part of it was that we grow them small. More of it was my wife's protective nature. I would have had them out of the car seats sooner, but I could never justify the argument knowing that if I was wrong and something bad happened I could never live with myself so I let it go and it worked itself out within a year or so. So to answer your question, I'd postpone the reception out of an abundance of caution.
  6. Our old friend Bartolo wants back in. Nice to see the fond memories of his time as a Met are mutual. If baseball comes back with a short season and expanded roster the Mets would be fools to not bring him back. I don't necessarily think it would go well from a baseball standpoint, but that wouldn't bother me in the least: “That Mets team was really something special,” Colon said of his time with the Mets, which included a trip to the World Series in 2015. “I’ve played with 10 [11] teams, but with the Mets, the way all those players treated me, how that entire franchise treated me, from the front office to the kitchen staff, it was amazing. And Mets fans are the best. In the beginning, when they laughed at me every time my helmet fell off, at first I felt uncomfortable. But when I saw how much the fans enjoyed it, I asked for a bigger batting helmet so that it would fall more because it was so much fun for them! “If it was up to me, I would retire with the Mets. I would like my career to end in New York.” https://nypost.com/2020/05/18/46-year-old-bartolo-colon-wants-to-pitch-for-mets-again/
  7. The high school by my mother had a drive by graduation. Led by a fire truck with sirens blaring they spent the morning stopping at every graduating seniors house and sticking congrats signs in the lawn (and I assume the diploma too). My mom said what was cool was you could hear it going on all morning long throughout the community. Not your traditional cap and gown ceremony but a memory they'll never forget.
  8. I had the good fortune of traveling through Massachusetts a few weeks before this all hit was able to stock up on recreational essentials. If I had any idea what was coming it may have been a hording situation as I've resorted to rationing.

  12. I've been working from home. Eventually I expect to go back to the office. I'd always try to leave the office 5-10 minutes ahead of the 5 PM traffic because it made a big difference. I wonder whether that will change or how long it will take to get back to the bad traffic. My company had resisted full-time work from home but for the most part hasn't skipped a beat the past two months. It will be interesting to see if/how attitudes change wrt working from home.
  13. The last two months have sucked. The upcoming months aren't looking much better. It's easy to dwell on the negative, but have there been any positives? My positive is that I have a son with a learners permit. With less cars on the road and more time on both of our hands I've been able to take him out on the highway and roads that would normally be more congested. He's a much better driver now than two months ago and better prepared for the same roads with more traffic.
  14. Children of tomorrow live in the tears that fall todayWill the sun rise up tomorrow bringing peace in any way?Must the world live in the shadow of atomic fear? Can they win the fight for peace or will they disappear, yeah
  15. As I'm checking on the bbq tonight I see a black bird with a huge wingspan flying towards my yard, flew over head and then the house and went on its way. Had a reddish head/beak and my immediate thought was turkey vulture because I had seen them years ago down in Virginia. Not sure what it was, wifey says hawk but we usually get red-tailed hawks which are much lighter in color. Regardless the type of bird, it was a cool 30 second fly by.
