  1. They could have drafted Matt Schaub in the 2nd round of the Losman draft too, and kept all the picks that they gave up to move back into the first round to draft JP. The point isn't how or when you get your franchise QB, the point is that when you make the decision to do so, you make the right choice. In the draft you just have to look at Manning over Leaf, but in FA, remember that the Dolphins chose to sign Culpepper over Brees.
  2. The Packers did a pretty good job of doing that with Rodgers. It would be great to have the 10 other positions set on the offense (and some on the defense) before drafting a QB, but that's not going to happen. Using that criteria, the Colts weren't set before drafting Manning, the Packers weren't set before drafting Rodgers, and the Saints weren't set before signing Brees. If you believe that a guy has the talent to be a franchise QB, you grab him, even if it means he and the team have to struggle before things turn around. And I would argue that if a QB doesn't have the toughness, intangibles, and instinct to survive playing on a sub-par team, he doesn't fit the bill as a franchise QB.
  3. He has the talent to run the ball more than 17 times in a game, that's for sure. As bad as the offense was last season, they still had pretty good numbers in the rushing game. If Gailey can't figure out how to generate some production out of the runners he has on this team, his time here will be short. He spends a 1st round pick on a running back with all the other needs the Bills had, but he couldn't figure out the right game plan or adjustments to 'get something going' when the season starts.
  4. I don't know about that. I would argue that they have the talent to support a better run-to-pass ratio than they called today. I agree the talent at QB is not up to NFL standards, but if that's the case, why put your QB in the shotgun more than half the game. Miami used the run game to go from 1-15 to the playoffs, For the Bills to be successful, they have to make a similar commitment to the running game. I didn't see that type of commitment from the Bills coaching staff today.
  5. Right, because while watching a QB abandon the pocket is entertaining in itself, watching that QB fumble the ball while abandoning the pocket ups the entertainment ante that much more.
  6. You mean missing the opportunity for Edwards to throw a 4 yard check-down on 4th and 10 cost the Bills the game?
  7. He had one the both times his pick-sixes were dropped.
  8. Maybe people can finally realize how afraid Edwards is to throw the ball down the field. That's the guy's problem. NFL QBs cannot be afraid of getting the ball downfield. And a check-down on the final play proves the point.
  9. Okay, I get you think that punting the ball and stopping the Phins, getting the ball back with 20 seconds left is a better scenario than letting your scarecrow QB throw the ball out of his end zone on 4th and 10. But why give them the safety. What's the extra 20 yards on the punt going to buy you? At least when you get the ball back with 20 seconds left, you only need a FG instead of a TD. Oh well, nice to know the 10 year tradition of head-scratching coaching decisions continues.
  10. Chan's big FU to those who bet the Bills +3. Oh, and it was the line's fault that Edwards threw those 3 sh### passes.
  11. Here we go, start of a new era. Make some plays!
  12. 10 years of this loser crap. Make a play here !
  13. Edwards is not going to lead this team to a win. Not the way he is playing.
  14. Yeah, and Edwards missed an OLB blitz read, can't get the ball past the DL on screen passes, and checked down on 3rd and long when he had more than enough time to throw. I know it's an automated response to blame the line for those who want to waste their time defending this guy, but despite the O-line, Edwards has had his opportunity to make plays in this game and hasn't stepped up. Hopefully he'll snap out of it in the 3rd quarter and rise above and make a play or two, but that's been the hope we've had for just about every quarter this guy has played for the Bills.
  15. Edwards just looks painfully slow in the pocket.
  16. Yeah, he could be doing commercials for boner supplements. Oh wait a minute, he is.
  17. Obviously Buffalo is a team that should use the pass to set up the run.
  18. Moss and Welker weren't on the Pats Super Bowl winning teams (they were on the losing SB team). I think that was the point. The Pats won their Super Bowls with guys like David Givens and Deion Branch playing WR.
  19. I agree and would add that like most rookie RBs, Spiller still has some issues with pass protection. But as Bills fans, we should be thrilled with the options at running back that a good offensive coach like Gailey can use. Unfortunately Lynch has been injured this preseason, but I'm eager to see what kind of production Gailey can get out of a smash-mouth RB. The Dolphins went from 1-15 to the playoffs using a diverse running attack. Let Gailey develop the same type of gameplan in Buffalo before running talented guys out of town.
  20. I don't know what the deal is with the coverage teams, but Moorman might just be worn out and need some rest. It might have been a good idea to bring in another punter just to take some of the reps in training camp.
  21. There were a lot of comparisons between Jauron and Levy when Jauron was hired, especially since Levy was the one who did the hiring. That didn't work out too well.
  22. Actually, I don't think it has much to do with Nix himself, rather it has to do with the process in which Nix was selected. The hirings of Polilan and Levy by Wilson do stand out. Unfortunately, along with hiring Saban and Knox, they represent the only good front office hirings Wilson has made during his 50 years as the Bills owner. No one can argue that the vast majority of Wilson's front-office signings haven't been somewhere between bad and horrible. With his hiring track record, and the current state of the Bills, you'd think that Wilson's interviewee list would consist of more than two names. After ten years of failure, it's hard to believe that Wilson wouldn't want to hear some outside opinions about the assessment of talent on the Bills current roster, the upcoming FA and draft prospects, and feedback on possible coaches and candidates. It's not too much to ask that Wilson spend 4 or 5 days talking to possible GMs to get a good consensus on the direction the team should take to get back to respectability on the field. Also, since the ownership issue continues to remain fuzzy because Wilson has no sucession plan in place, it might have made some sense to hire a younger GM who could, if successful, remain in the position for the next 10 years or so. It would give a sense of stability to an very unstable situation. Hiring a 70 year old GM just adds more uncertainty for the future outlook of the team. Anyway, Nix sounds like a good guy and hopefully will be true to his statements in filling out the team's scouting and coaching staffs. And it's not fair to him, but the decision would have been better received if Wilson had selected him after vetting a more comprehensive list of candidates.
  23. If misguided means 'horrible at running the football operations side of an NFL franchise,' I agree with you. Front office ineptitude has led to a decade of mediocrity from the Bills. Most fans realize that the Bills need a smart GM to lead them back to respectability. To believe that Wilson has found that guy by interviewing only two candidates, you have to believe that Wilson is the greatest front-office selecting owner in the NFL. And he is clearly not that. Nix, by luck, might turn out to be a great choice to be GM. But Wilson clearly cheated the fans with the half-assed approach he used to fill the position.
  24. More than half of the coaches in the league are safe this season. Do you really believe that Bellichick said to himself when making his decision, "well so-and-so was in a similar situation as this and he didn't go for it, and ESPN made fun of him for a week"? Of course not. He probably made his decision based up what he thought Brady could do. Unfortunately he didn't consider that the Colts D could also make a play there. And he lost faith in his own defense to make a stop, like the Colts managed to do.
