Trent is our best option? Based on what? Brohm played one game for the Bills last season, and looked no worse than Edwards did in the first two games this season. Fitzpatrick took the job from Edwards last season, why can't he do the same this year? What the hell has Edwards shown the last two season to make anyone believe that Edwards should be on the field in the "interest of growth and the future?" There is no way in hell that Edwards has anything to do with the future of this franchise, unless the goal of the franchise is to be the 32nd rated pass offense in the NFL season after season.

They'll start improving when they get a good QB, but they won't start winning until they fill more holes.

You wouldn't have taken the Texans line when they were playing in front of David Carr. And Johnson was nowhere near the best in the game when Carr was his QB. His production looked alot like what Evans does today. Schaub greatly improved that team. Carr, like Edwards is afraid of the pocket. Neither is willing to take a hit to make a play. Both watch the pass rush instead of the receivers. The announcers today noted how Schaub is able to feel the rush, but keep his eyes downfield. That ability, which is shared by most good QBs, would be invaluable to a young and devloping offensive line. Nobody, however, would ever say that Edwards has that ability.

No doubt. Take Matt Schaub. The Redskins sacked him 5 times today. They kicked the sh#t out of him. Of course, he threw for 500 yards and 3 TDs and led his team to a comeback in the 4th quarter. In reality though, sometimes a QB is just going to have a bad day when his team is outmatched. Everyone is entitled to a bad day. The problem is that Edwards has been having a bad day his entire career. Maybe if, every so often, Edwards was able to rise above the play and his teammates and makes some plays, even in a loss, Buffalo fans would have something to grasp onto when making his case for being the starting QB. Edwards hasn't even shown he can figure out a 34 defense, and he's been in the league 4 years. Enough is enough. Every argument about his ability is a hypothetical one('if he had good coaches,' 'if he had an offensive line,' 'if he had receivers'). Bench this loser and move on to the next guy.

I don't know, sh###y QBs?

I doubt anyone is going to jump off any bridges. Since this crap has been going on in the Bills organization for the last 10 years, anyone who was prone to jumping already has made the leap.

Yeah, back when David Carr was Houston's QB, it was generally accepted that the Texans had the worst OLine in the league. Now that he's been replaced by Schaub, you don't hear that anymore, even though the Oline is still leaky. Amazing what a QB who has a clue can do when he gets on the field, even when it's behind a subpar line.

Get over yourself. You don't have to be a GM or a coach or an announcer to figure this out. The Bills Oline has been bad for the last 10 years. And yet during that time, QBs other than Edwards HAVE been able to get the ball downfield to Evans, or Owens, or Parrish. Losman, a QB who is now out of the league, threw for 300 yards behind a horrible offensive line. Fitzgerald, a QB who should be joing Losman soon, got the ball downfield to the Owens better than Edwards, and he played behind a similarly horrible offensive line. Those guys are NOT good QBs, and yet the COULD make plays downfield playing behind a bad offensive line. It didn't result in many wins, but they were able to catch lightning here and there, unlike Edwards. And finally, when you look at good QBs, like Roethlisberger and Rodgers, who were sacked more than 50 times in a season, you see what a GOOD QB could do behind a bad offensive line. It's idiotic to believe that Edwards needs the entire offensive line to be staffed with good to great players before he can become effective. As the QB, he should bring something to the game. He should be able to raise the level of play around him. Hell, Shaun Hill threw for over 300 yards today against the Eagles for the powerhouse Lions. That's something Edwards has never done, not in college, and not in the NFL. Edwards deserves to be thrown on the trash heap of Bills QBs from the last 10 years. He brings absolutely nothing to the game.

So here's a guy (Wilson) whose franchise is at a crossroads, looking for a new GM, after 10 years of losing. You'd think that a guy in that position would want to interview multiple candidates for his GM position, just to get multiple points of view on quality of talent in the draft and FA, especially since the Bills have needs at so many positions. But Wilson talks to one guy, and hires him. I mean, Nix might be the smartest guy in the room, but wouldn't you want to say to him, 'Buddy, the last guy I talked to says that Clausen isn't NFL material for this reason, what do you think?' If Wilson had no interest in the opinion of legitimate football guys when making the import decision of hiring a GM, what makes you think he'd be interested in the opinions of a group of fans? I really have no idea how this guy became a successful businessman based on the insular way he runs his team.

Yep, this speaks more to the management of the team than the talent of Spiller. A top ten pick should have an immediate impact on a team, especially if the player is not a QB. For the last 18 games the Bills have had no contribution from their 1st round pick. Not what you need when you're rebuilding.

And if you think that his is an either/or situation, you're clueless. Face it, Edwards isn't going to have a 'come to Breesus' moment.

Have to agree with you. Give us something to latch onto. I watched some of the Detroit game; they're 0-2, and probably will have a losing record, but they are making strides and are entertaining to watch.

That doesn't inspire much faith in Nix. While it might be difficult to build even an "average" Oline in the NFL, you'ld expect that it would take more than signing one mediocre RT. And it shouldn't be all that hard to find a QB as good as Trent Dilfer. Shaun Hill just threw for over 300 yards against the Lions. He was available this offseason, and was probably pretty cheap. Nix decided to stick with our current set of losers. I expected the Bills to be bad this season, but I have to say that Nix's lack of activity as a GM of a rebuilding team is disappointing.

Yeah, so they're making progress.

I'm positive that I'll be able to make money betting against the Bills when I go to Vegas in two weeks.

They could have also drafted Matt Schaub in the 2nd round in 2004, and kept their draft picks (one of which was used by Dallas to draft Demarcus Ware). The thing that kills me is that most of this hindsight isn't really surprising. Maybin was universally recognized at a project. Schaub vs. Losman was debated extensively, with Schaub as being seen as more NFL-ready, while Losman had the higher upside. Ron Jaworski broke down Losman after the Bills drafted him, and his assessment wasn't favorable. Many teams shy away from drafting DBs in the first round (McKelvin is good, but how much better is he than Jabari Greer?). And coming into this last draft, you'd be fighting a losing argument to say that RB was the Bills biggest need. Some may say it's hindsight, but I see the Bills decisions more as avoidable mistakes.

Edwards hasn't seen him the last two games.

No doubt, an interception there would have killed the Bills.

Protect him from what? His job?

Since the game is out of hand in the 4th, why not play Spiller to get him some experience so that we can eventually get some use out of our 1st round pick before the season ends? I mean, how many seasons can an NFL team go with no contributions from their 1st round picks?

How is that a surprise? No OL help; No LB help; No QB help; No WR help; an unproven coach; a rookie 70 year old GM; no changes in the scouting dept; and a new defensive scheme doesn't fit the teams "talent."

It's beyond just comparing one player against the other. The real question is why spend a top 10 pick on a RB if you're NOT going to feature him? Why draft a project like Maybin when there are guys who are obviously more NFL ready at the same position? I believe the original point was the Bills poor drafting history. Drafting guys in the 1st round who wind up nailed to the bench, for whatever reason, goes directly to the original point.

If your QB has the reputation of not being able to make plays down the field, the defense is going to load the box, which makes it even more difficult on the offensive line and WRs, who are consistently trying to make catches in traffic.
