And you wonder why I am so carried away about 300 yards???? From 2006-2019 here are the names of the QB's to throw for 300 yards: Ryan Fitzpatrick (7), Kyle Orton (3), J.P Losman (2), Taylor (1). Yes, your math is right. A Bills quarterback has thrown for 300+ yards just 13 times over the past 13 seasons. Prior to that they went 59 games..... https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2010/10/26/1775133/whats-happened-since-bills-last-had-a-300-yard-passer No wonder I'm antsy!!!!?

I played & sorted the file & certainly interesting stats..... I will point out that throwing for 300 also means your team generally has a better winning % vs. when you don't..... I.e. Garropolo 3-0 Cousins 4-0 Brees 4-1 (loss vs. SF when Garropolo threw 300 too) + 1-0 Bridgewater Jones 2-2 (NYG 4 wins) Keenum 0-2 (Wash is lousy) Watson 2-1 (again loss when Indy threw for 300) Brissett 2-1 Mayfield 3-0 Fitz 2-1 Wentz 3-2 Brady 2-1 Darnold 2-0 Murray 1-2-1 But then of course Andy Dalton or Stafford will be brought up.....

In defense of defense (and running, too)

Sorry I p!$$ed on your corn flakes....? I will not respond further to this thread & you can have your cathartic kumbaya moment, along with those who want to join you. This is 2019, the offense is not good enough thanks to the coaching & play calling by McD & Daboll. We all appreciate great defense, but have to also understand that it is offense that scores the points that decide 90% of NFL games & can't keep playing offensive football like it is the 1970's in 2019. -

And this is the problem with waxing nostalgic, you forget the bad. OJ was great to watch (and I was watching that 2003 yard season), but outside the record overall I'm not so sure. However they went 9-5, missed the playoffs & averaged under 12 passes a game (high water mark was 169)..... In 12 of 14 they were under 100..... One game they had 1 net yard passing. It was all about the Electric Company & OJ. Yep I loved that year, but in retrospect it was beyond boring (if not for OJ). Yep we all appreciate great defensive plays & hard legal hits, but this is 2019 & you can not hang your hat on it. You really must hate Brees, Rogers & Brady. I now see why 300 yards passing is so upsetting to you. BTW last team not to complete a pass???? Buffalo 1974 (btw Joe Namath completed 2 & the Bills won). -
How many excuses can one make??? Unless McD comes out & takes blame for holding back the offense, you have to move on from Daboll.... Again this year should have been about repetitions for Allen & it was not imo. Again look at Arizona, who quickly moved on from Rosen (as did Miami) & their rookie (on a still lousy team) saw their passing yards increase 35% this year. The Bills supposedly invested in the offense in 2019 and brought in a new #1 & #2 WR & the passing #'s increased 19%...... And still is 29th in the league.... If the Defensive coordinators first two years were 32 & 29, where would he be?

We've kept hoping it would change all season long & it hasn't. And yes will wish for the same in the playoffs..... When the Bills beat Pitt, some here applauded the smart coaching that milked the 17-10 lead & ensured no mistakes. When they lose a tight game (NE & Balt), well it is usually due to the team being better then the Bills & not bad decision making or coaching the first 54 minutes on offense. And yes I think they are much better then Houston, but expect them to play for a 17-13 win...... Yea yea I know we'll be thrilled if they do win 17-13..... As I've stated over & over this offense is better then 24th. If your QB has ranked 32nd & 29th his first two years (i.e. near the bottom)in yards/gm isn't it time to start thinking about the next QB? Again I don't believe it but that is how they play him.
-
And again 5 more passes a game, screens, easier passes, hurry up offense, more read options, play actions & whatever that seems to work for the better offenses in the league..... This team wishes every game was 17-13, and plays that way. And yes I complain about the drops, not catching contested balls or making that difficult catch. Making the wrong read, I'll be the first to admit I'm not smart enough to know & watching All 22's and you'll see those 1-2 plays where a receiver is running uncovered & not thrown to, but I bet that is the same for almost every QB & team, but we don't see that. We all see what we want in Allen. I want him to be great (he's a Bill after all) so i see the good & want to see more plays so i can assess him. Buffalo is 27th in pass attempts.... League average would be 5 more attempts/game. With such a good defense they should be higher.

Again I won't argue the point, however to have the disparity the Bills have between O & D ultimately is not good. What is bothersome & I know oft repeated is that the Bills seem to make so little effort on Offense. The 24th ranked offense is not good enough & to be 29th, 30th & 24th tells me that they really haven't addressed it (or poor coaching & play calling). The issue is that the Bills of all playoff teams have the biggest discrepancy between Offense & Defense in terms of rankings & this is on the coaching in barely addressing it for 3 years..... Under McD they've gone from 16th on Offense in 2016 now are 24th..... In terms of the teams they've played this year the Average Offensive Rank is 20.2 & Defenses 15.5 (where I took their rankings in yards allowed or gained and then averaged them out). What this shows is that the Defense played generally vs. worse offenses throughout the year & the Offense played against league average Defenses. Again this shows that the Defense is probably over-rated based on playing worse then league average offenses & the 24th ranked offense is pretty much what they are on average. Again didn't work vs. Balt & NE.....
-
I hated that game the Bills played terrible & was tough to watch. That last drive by Buffalo was so disorganized & NYG continually converting on third downs. The Bills were so sloppy that game. Can't argue with Bills fans as you seem to also forget SF-Balt, NE-Seattle, NE- Car & others..... And yes Philly-NE was a great game.....
-
Sorry I'd be happy if the Bills signed Brown.....
-
What high scoring Bills offense? Got to go back to the K-gun, and anyone saying that wasn't more exciting is not being honest..... Very few games this year have been exciting..... Yes exciting in that they are 10-5, but the games itself have been meh...... And yes I've watched pretty much every single minute. Here again is the perfect example..... The Bills played Baltimore opposite NO vs. SF. Four teams all with 3 (or less losses) in week 14...... Anyone who says the Bills vs. Ravens game was more exciting/compelling then NO vs. SF is lying.....
-
Now again let's flip the switch...... The Bills are in the playoffs, Josh Allen is the centerpiece of the #2 or 3 rated offense & the Defense the past 2 years is the 32nd & 29th ranked (Allen's yards/game or 30th, 29th & 24th ranked offense the last three years)...... There'd be a mutiny here as to how bad the defense is and that it is unacceptable. And what if McD came in 2017 & completely gutted the D that was not bad & they went from 16th to 30th, which is what he did to the Offense? The good new is the games would be awfully exciting.......?
-
I don't disagree. My concern is they should have let the reigns off. I want to see what he is capable of in 60 minutes (not a half or the 4th quarter, which happens too often). Thanks for putting even more detail in the analysis.
-
Thanks and as I read it the W/L is 64 Wins 38 Losses (where the losing QB was the only one throwing for 300) & 2 Ties & 19 Losses (where both threw for 300)..... Again I think when both throw for 300, the losing did everything he could to keep them in the game. And I guess a tie doesn't count.
-
How many times do we hear the 9 new starters argument? It's getting old week 17. Oh and we have played good defenses down the stretch...... Always another excuse. Remember I am an Allen supporter & think he can be really good, but believe the Bills have held him back and just maybe if the Bills had opened up the offense & given Allen more opportunities earlier in the season that the NE & Baltimore games could have had different outcomes (throw in Cleveland too).....
-
Again you are wrong. What I want to see is what the Bills have in Josh Allen. I have no idea based on the play calling & how they run the offense. Next year a tougher schedule & pretend the defense is not top 3, but 8th-12th & Allen throws more & is Jameis Winston & a turnover machine, then what? There were plenty of games the Bills could have been more aggressive & chose not to (7 games under 200 yards passing.
-
And again this should have been a game to showcase Allen, take the reigns off & judge him on his potential. Of course the Bills decided tough it and again were in a one score game into the 4th at home vs. a punchless offensive team playing Haskins in his first start.
-
And if you are right, then the issue is Allen is not the QB for the team or the future (as we see Tennessee has decided with Mariotta). I have banged the same drum continually that the Bills do need to open up the offense primarily because the future is Allen (the reason he was drafted #7) & while I'm convinced he is a great QB, maybe I am wrong & Daboll & the coaching is covering up for him & that will lead to failure in the future. That is not a good thing for the Bills & why I want them to work hard to see if he is or is not the future. BTW we all too know PFF's anti-Allen stance so I expect every incompletion not OB was considered interceptable....... This is what happened with Mariotta (of just a lousy/wrong OC, though Tannehill may have proven that wrong) & certainly saw that with Blake Bortles & Jax. And applaud Arizona for making the decision on Rosen. Plenty of other examples. I have said this over & over. I proved you wrong & then you use the NET argument..... The Bills don't need to worry about the net figure, because they havcen't crossed the 300 yard line.... Keep trying....
-
Wrong 2017 Browns did it (took 2 qB's, but they did) ..... 2017 Colts they did vs. SF. You got me on Baltimore (my bad).... Yes & Pitt lost Big Ben game 1 this year, so pretty excusable imo..... https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201710080clt.htm https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201709170rav.htm You are wrong..... And the Bills have gone 2017, 2018 & 1 game to go in 2019..... Unacceptable & pretty sad....
-
Interesting because I did not see that vs. Baltimore & a great video/thread here showing how wrong they were about Josh that game. I also thought they did a lousy job reacting to blitz after blitz. As for open receivers I was going to post & ask how All-22's look for 31 other teams. I bet you'll see open receivers on every All-22, but the question is whether Josh is worse at recognizing them or not good at reading defenses, as I don't know. If the read is Beasley & Brown is wide open (as seen vs. NE) was that a bad read by Allen or was the pass meant for Cole & Brown being open meant nothing. As for the highest % of interceptable balls, I call bull, as at least since the NE game, I've really seen very few. Another stat I'd like to see is catching contested passes, which I seldom see the Bills do, same as catching tough passes (not drops, but catches that could be made), which again I don't see the Bills doing.....
