Sammy Watkins: New Teams, Same Bad Attitude
Billsfan1972 replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No they don't bash, but also McD seems myopic if a player doesn't fit their ideal (& of course Defense). Have to sometimes treat players differently and not everyone fits your ideal. -

Actually this is the perfect article that indicates how a new regime could have worked with him, talked about expectations and doubled down that they wanted him to excel and be their #1... Again I want to cheer and have longtime allegiance to players Ina Bills uniform and yes that means usually at the Skill Positions. I was excited for 2017 and what a Healthy Sammy & TT could do. Trading him in training camp was a slap in the face of fans looking forward to 2017, not draft picks in 2018..... -

Again as a Bill, did he produce? I'd say his trajectory was right on track year's 1-2 & missed half of year 3. So as I keep asking, what exactly did Sammy do on the field that necessitated him being dumped for pennies on the dollar? Any other Bills dumped in a similar manner that have flourished? And would you not rather have had him play for the B ills in 2017 & then made the decision as to his future. He may have been a bust year 4 & then this argument would be moot.... -

Again the thread was about Watkins and the hate here primarily because the Bills traded up to get him. Been a long time since the Bills had continuity or a player to cheer for beyond 3 years in a skill position. As I stated Watkins was going into year 4, seems healthy and him and Tyrod seemed to be working well together (2016 injury aside).... What happened? The new regime gutted the offense and never answered for it. This salary cap excuse with a player under a rookie contract was mallarky. What really bothers me is people here upset with him solely as to when he was drafted and not his performance. Plenty of Bills were drafted high and didn't perform & they are out of the league or marginal players. Only Watkins is commanding $10,000,000+ a year. Do a search of all the pseudo-gms claiming Watkins wouldn't get any sizeable offers last year. If you are a talent you get paid. Buffalo I hope understands that. -

If you must know yes. I can also be honest in my assessment of the team & what I see. Yes 10-6 & wins aside, they weren't an exciting team to watch. I am a fan of Offense in football & the last 3 years has been difficult to watch as the offense is painful at times. Disagree all you want, but I'm only being honest. -

And again how do you improve talent at the skill positions? I can't think there is a single FA who would believe a word Beane or McDermott says about the offense & their goals based on their actions the last three years. So the Bills would need to over pay & they won't do that. Now the draft is the key & we'll wait & see. Again the the concern is that if they produce, will they be paid? Who was the last highly paid player on the Bills Offense? BTW Watkins would have been the answer if he stayed & the Bills made sure that that decision would never have had to be made.? -

And don't forget yesterday's TD he was the third option as Mahomes ran around back there. The point was he produced when called upon. Here you go on that play. Watkins beat him plain & simple..... It happens.... https://www.chiefs.com/video/patrick-mahomes-makes-back-foot-54-yard-pass-to-sammy-watkins -

Again, he was very good as a Rookie & had over 1000 yards in 12-13 games year 2 & missed half of year 3..... I would imagine if targeted like OBJ or Hopkins in 2017 & a playoff spot, he'd have been more then happy being a Bill. Explain to me why any skill position player would want to play for the 24th ranked offense & a Defense first coach in a cold weather small town. You need to overpay or there are no other choices. Hey I'm a Bill fan, just stating reality. So now the #1 CB in the NFL couldn't cover a #3 receiver????? -

And you know the inside story??? You read Sammy Watkins psychological profile? You maybe 100% right, but I just wanted to see him in 2017 as a Bill & made that decision for myself. Go find the posts with all the experts after the LA Rams that he'd by lucky to sign for $7-8,000,000 & yet there was a bidding war & he got $14,000,000/yr. Again what makes McD & Beane so much smarter? Are you so happy with the 30, 29 & 24th ranked Offense under McD? -

Again 2015 he was over 1000 & played only 13 games (1300 pro-rated)...... Who knows what would have happened as he had worked with TT in the offseason (it was said) prior to the 2017 season. No one knows, but I'll bet if cut, he'll again sign at north of $10,000,000/yr. I'd be worried he signs with NYJ or Miami......? -

Billsfan1972 replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was not paid $16,000,000/yr as a Bill...... That's the damn point. Year 4 when he was healthy the Bills could have made that decision, but gave him away for next to nothing (oh and then traded for Matthews and Benjamin). Tell me how those two replacements worked (and if they're still in the league)???? -
Running Backs A Dime a Dozen & Is It a Passing League ?
Billsfan1972 replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It never fails...... Yep an incredible performance on the ground and they kept scoring & scoring, forcing turnovers & 27-0 at half. However during the Regular season they also had 4-300 yard passing games...... Something the Bills have had 0 in the 50 games McD has coached..... -

The false narrative is the dumpster fire and taking over a terrible team. We all know year one was a fluke pass that got them in the playoffs and year 3 a very easy schedule was the primary reason. -

Because you would.... We know 0-2 I'm the playoffs too. I'm just saying the records are almost identical to the prior three years that was considered a dumpster fire..... I love the false narrative. This thread is about Watkins and I maintain they traded him out of spite for the prior regime not his production on field. -

Really???? Because they gutted the offense???? The 25-25 record??? They seem to have gotten it 50% right, with a very good defense and little thought to the other side. If ever the jury was out it is this regime. -

He missed 8 games in 2016.... Players get injured. He was recovered as far as we knew & ready for 2017. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/W/WatkSa00.htm In 2016 he had 1047 yards in 13 games, which is a 1300 yard pace.... He averaged 16 yards a catch.... That was not too bad a start to a career. And paid $14,000,000/yr.... Some pretty stupid GM's (oh & going to the SB btw), while the Bills are smarter then them? He had injuries, not the first & not the last..... Playing soft & not much effort. Show me examples. If not targeted enough it is difficult imo, but didn't see it & this is the false narrative people love to point to without any proof. Actually look at KC, & frankly it is very much focused on Kelce. -

No this thread was started by a Watkins hater wanting to stir up old threads/wounds & explain why he was traded and that he has a bad attitude. Watkins fans, and yep as the #4 pick by Buffalo I was excited for a stud #1 receiver who was traded for nothing to do with his on-field play, it was frustrating. Again for all who disliked Watkins (probably only because the Bills traded up to get him, like they did with Allen), what did he do on the field that warranted him being traded & not have played for the Bills in 2017? -

Would have rather seen what he could have done for 2017 as the Bills #1 receiver. I really don't know what happened in LA as he should have been the #1 option, but was not. Going to KC he was behind Hill & Kelce & after week 2 was not overly targeted (6/game). You can only catch when thrown to. Even his catches yesterday he wasn't the primary target on many of them. -

He's not coming back..... I just never understood why they dumped him for next to nothing when he was the #4 pick, put up very respectable #'s & had recovered from his 2016 foot injury. The Bills needed a #1 receiver & he was under contract (and they controlled year 5). -

He was working out just fine in Buffalo (some injuries unfortunately, but was health training camp 2017)....... The problem was not enough targets. -

People forget that.... The guy got injured in year 3, it happens.... And then they flush him & the O down the toilet in 2017, for what? He did nothing bad on the field as a Buffalo Bill..... And the hate because they traded up to get him? Or is it because in McD we trust???? Maybe he skipped a Prayer Group????? -

30th, 29th & 24th ranked Offenses.... Yup that's a winning formula.... 25-25 under McDermott..... Trust the process.... -

I shake my head at the hate for Watkins. He was very solid as a rookie, a 1,000 yard receiver year 2 & 8 games in his third. He caught almost everything thrown to him & unfortunately had a low % of targets. The new FO & Coaching Staff decided to gut the offense & never gave a decent answer as to why they did that. They haven't recovered since and some of us wonder why the hate for an exciting offense.
