I'd completely agree with you, had Putin not stated plainly that his goal is to reunite the Russian Empire, including the NATO countries. And now that the Russian offensive to seize Kyiv has failed, and Ukrainian counter attacks are rolling it back (and threatening to ***** ENCIRCLE Russian troops in a pocket around Bucha and Hostomel)... Tsar Vladimir the Insane has decided all this was just about "liberating" the Donbass, and Russia's going to focus on "liberating" the Donbass. When in doubt, move the goal posts. In other news, Ukraine's stated that the reason why they didn't believe our intelligence that an invasion was imminent, was because they had penetrated the Russian army and saw 0 evidence of preparation on the tactical level. So because Russian units were utterly unprepared for offensive operations, the Ukrainians thought we were overhyping a Russian bluff. That's why they didn't start mobilizing until 24 hours prior to the offensive starting.

Sure the killing should stop as soon as possible, and both sides should return to status quo ante bellum. A permanent reduction in Ukraine's ability to defend itself or any additional compromises to it's sovereignty should be off the table. Ha, something I didn't know. Ukraine has legally been under China's nuclear umbrella since 2013. I guess China never envisioned Ukraine being anything other than Russia-aligned. Last I read, Ukraine's position was now 1991 Borders or no deal. So basically telling Russia "You have to nuke us, conquer us completely, or admit defeat. The Salami Tactics aren't working anymore".

One more thing. The Ukrainian constitution forbids the government from ceding any Ukrainian territory to another country without a national referendum in favor. So even if he wanted to, which he doesn't, Zelensky couldn't simply John Hancock a treaty giving Donbas and Crimea to Russia. Something's going on in Belarus. Some opposition leader called Lukashenko a Russian puppet (he is), said his country is occupied, and called for western aid. There's also sounds like explosions across the country, though some folks are saying it's sonic booms from Russian and Belarusian fighters heading to Ukraine. Maybe it something, maybe it's not, but its supposedly happening right now.
