Education in America
The Frankish Reich replied to Big Blitz's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Correct. That's what the article says (as it makes great hay of an incredibly obvious thing). Going to an elite college = really smart. Almost without fail. Going to a competitive college = smart. Except for athletes and legacies at certain ones. Going to any old college or community college = can't make any valid inference re: intelligence. -

I just told you: no it isn't. It isn't "dumbing down at the high school level." It is a pure selection effect. College was for elites, either economically (which, not surprisingly, also tend to be smarter than average) or intellectually in 1939. Now it's for everyone. It has nothing to do with dumbing down; it has everything to do with "dumbing up," as the dumber kids (who've always been there) now go to college too. -

I just noticed this post. And although it's late, I can't help but comment on perhaps the dumbest article that has ever been posted here. The question: "why college students' average IQ has fallen 17 points since 1939." The answer (which never appears anywhere in the article, except in very general terms): about 13% of Americans 25 to 34 had attended at least some college in 1940. In 2009: 60% You had to be on the smarter side of the bell curve to go to college 85 years ago. Today? You have to be able to fog a mirror. Do you ever read the crap you post? Or did it never occur to you that about 5X more kids go to college today than before WW2? I say this because you post smart things on the football side, so I know you are capable of making some thoughtful statistical inferences. Why not apply that same thoughtfulness to the more serious matters of politics and policy? -
You can do other things too, like take a home equity loan to free up cash for something else, etc.

https://ir.kroger.com/news/news-details/2024/Kroger-Reports-Fourth-Quarter-and-Full-Year-2023-Results-Announces-Guidance-for-2024/default.aspx In 2023, the company recorded an operating profit of $4.47 billion, down from $4.76 billion in 2022. Its operating profit as a percentage of sales—which measures how much profit a business makes on average per dollar of sales—saw a similar decrease from 8.7 percent in 2022 to 7.8 percent in 2023. Shooting down the Albertson's/Kroger merger is a no-brainer. The grocery retail sector is already highly concentrated, and this is the classic antitrust situation. Go Kamala!

She and her husband got caught contributing to Kamala. Commies. And lobbying for big agribusiness.

Not weird, a presidential candidate hawking weird worthless sh!t like he's the My Pillow guy himself.

I had no idea Mark Halperin, Canceled in the Great Perv Purge, was still around. Meanwhile, Nate Silver tells it straight: Kamala up by about 3.5 points nationally, and this projects right now to be about as close to 50/50 as elections come.

This is so very true

I think his point is that if you chant "hang Mike Pence," sharpen a flagpole outside the Capitol and say it is intended for a "particular person," but then construct a small and purely symbolic gallows, we should all interpret it as an elaborate practical joke gone bad. -
Kamala's VP?
The Frankish Reich replied to The Frankish Reich's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The incredibly silly article that B-Man fave Sean Davis links to in support of his "Gov Walz bans Christian teachers" nonsense: Faithful members of the world’s largest and oldest religions cannot in good conscience “affirm” non-heterosexual sexual orientations and gender identities. Christians who do so publicly deny their faith, something Jesus Christ said endangers a person’s soul and eternal bliss after death: “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32, 33). Minnesota’s teacher requirements therefore force Christians, Muslims, Jews, and adherents to other religions to violate their faith and endanger their hopes of eternal life in order to work in government-run schools. Got that? He is literally damning them to eternal hellfire in order to keep their jobs. Nothing weird here. -
Yeah, but now I'm not sure if the eyeroll is preferable

https://rollcall.com/2022/06/15/jan-6-panel-shows-man-from-loudermilk-tour-threatening-lawmakers-near-capitol-on-day-of-riot/ Sharpened flagpole guy bragging that he fashioned it "for a certain person." He came in peace too, I guess. -

Here's "standard flagpole guy" peacefully beating a cop with that standard flagpole. (sharpened flagpole guy was different) 4 years imprisonment for peacefully protesting. -
Was Trump's exclusive with Dr. Phil pre-taped? Because that was pretty in-depth. Really helped me plumb the depths of a shallow mind. You ask "where does Kamala Harris stand on building a border wall? Ask and you will be answered: https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/dnc-harris-speech-election-2024/card/harris-pledges-to-sign-bipartisan-border-bill-csVc4bVyNHlyx9yqnyyE

Sloth Fever expected to hit WNY by 2195.

West Nile is so 2019. Have you seen the newest one, presumably imported by travel with Cuba? Sloth fever. Don't expect DeSantis and Rubio to call for an end to all flights from Cuba; these people vote Republican! https://www.miamiherald.com/news/health-care/article291586710.html#:~:text=state data shows.-,More than a dozen Floridians who traveled to Cuba this, has the most confirmed cases.

So since Julie is a commie, if you disagree with Julie you can't also be a commie? I'm so confused. I need some lab-grown meat with Roundup sauce!
