  1. Word around the league is that Kizer likely will fall through the first round, and be the fourth or even fifth quarterback taken. The reason? Where Mitchell Trubisky, Deshaun Watson, Pat Mahomes and Davis Webb check the boxes on the intangibles, questions arise on the 21-year-old Golden Domer. “He’s got the size, the arm talent and he’s very bright,” said one AFC head coach. “But there’s a disconnect there. There are diva qualities there, and he seems to get voices in his head, like he’s fighting who he is. And once the cycle starts, he can’t get himself right.” It was just last week that Kizer’s college coach, Brian Kelly, said that the quarterback probably should’ve stayed in school for his junior year, because he needed to mature on and off the field. While I’m told there was friction between Kelly and Kizer over the past year—Kizer never acted out, but Kelly took until mid-September to give him the job over Malik Zaire—there’s also truth in what the Irish head coach was saying. Even scouts who like Kizer said it was clear that he had trouble reeling things in mentally when trouble struck, and that his mechanics and footwork crumbled way too often. http://mmqb.si.com/mmqb/2017/04/13/jared-goff-los-angeles-rams-sean-mcvay-nfl-minicamp
  2. Tyrod's pay goes to 18 million next year. I don't expect him to be here. That leaves Cardale and Yates? No, none of these guys stop me from drafting a Mahomes and a Dobbs. Dobbs is way less risky than Cardale. His ceiling might not be as high but his floor is much higher. I could see Dobbs being a #2 this year on a team. We shall see what Cardale has. When he played against the Jets he looked nowhere near ready for anything.
  3. Yes, some teams asked him if he could handle an NFL playbook and he mentioned he was taking astronautics, propulsion, and an aerodynamics class on the same day as he was leading an SEC football team. Another Dobbs story was his team was down in a game and he gets in the huddle and tells everyone that they have it, they're going to win the game and then delivers. I want guys like Dobbs on my team, even if he is not the star. Or a white guy that lost his job to Dobbs...
  4. I don't want to force the Dak stuff on him but Dobbs excelled in the SEC as a dual-threat QB. He has some nice tools and seems like he could surprise people. “Josh Dobbs, who was down at the Senior Bowl, again he continues to impress me,” said Riddick, who prior to his current role as ESPN analyst was the director of pro personnel for the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles. “He looked very comfortable, looked a little bit robotic in some of his drops, but his accuracy, again, was good, and he didn’t flinch at all in this, which I think continues to bode well for his prospects once he continues to get the kind of NFL environment coaching he’s going to get.” Dobbs, Athlon’s 2016 SEC Offensive Player of the Year, posted 3,781 total yards of offense last season and joined Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott and Florida’s Tim Tebow as the only SEC quarterbacks in history to record 15 passing TDs and 10 rushing TDs in multiple seasons. https://www.seccountry.com/tennessee/tennessee-football-josh-dobbs-nfl-combine
  5. There is no WR in this draft in the same universe as a healthy Sammy.
  6. Yet teams that know how to scout QB's are bringing in Dobbs such as the Steelers and Chiefs. Dobbs might not be worth a high pick but I would love to have the kid in the 5th.
  7. The point of drafting a Dobbs is you are looking for someone that can start as a decent, cheap backup with some potential to be more. Cardale was a lottery ticket that might not even make the team this year. Only the Bills know if he has made any progress.
  8. If we get a franchise QB are we going to complain if 2017 was a "bad class"?
  9. Come on man, get on the Nathan Peterman hype train. Did you know he took snaps under center?!
  10. Watch the 49ers. They got the coach. Then they will have a QB by next year at the latest.
  11. Bills reinventing football. It's intoxicating.
  12. Sure, I get that. They are looking at the top QBs this year though and I don't think they are tricking people. Whether they draft a QB comes down to the value they have when they pick.
  13. I don't believe it. They are looking at QBs. The first rule of smoke screen is you don't say you are doing a smoke screen!
  14. He works for NFL films. His uncle was Howard Cossell.
  15. Cossell falls in love with Blake Bortles hates Derek Carr. This year it's Davis Webb and he hates Mahomes. Cossell your cup of tea?
  16. Kirby, I respect your thoughts and thank you for sharing them on this subject. But can't both of us be right? Modrak was running the show but ultimately his collaborative approach allowed others more say than they should have had? It's similar to the mystery of Whaley. When did he draft and when did he get bulled over by Rex?
  17. It's not like these guys don't bring value. Jaworski is one of the best guys at bringing information on current QB's playing in the NFL. Cossell seems solid when talking about current NFL play as well. Cossell's methods would be useful for finding a good backup or marginal starter in a later round.
  18. I like Cossell because it helps me understand how 75 year old scouts on NFL teams pick QB's so poorly.
  19. If Trubisky or Mahomes are gone? I would be hoping for Solomon Thomas or Jamal Adams as elite prospects. Would look at EDGE guys like Barnett and Taco. Lean to trade back to 20 as I see it very likely the prospects at 20 will be in same tier as 10.
  20. I can handle a different opinion. Greg Cossell has a completely different view on QB evaluation. But at least he shows his work and you understand where he is coming from. Fahey gets press for his analytics articles but during draft season he seems to be cribbing from Cossell but making it more click worthy. I see some of his latest QB work and talking about Kizer like a dancer made me laugh out loud.
  21. I also mentioned no Safety Depth.
  22. Yes, it seems Whaley was drafting in 2013 and 2014. Once Rex is hired first pick is a man cover corner in Darby, DE from Clemson, and 3 picks spent on a 3-4 inside linebacker thumper with high football IQ.
  23. I don't think the Pats sign Hogan if we tendered him at a #2. But what would have happened is the Bills would have went into the season with actual WR depth. Bills probably make the playoffs if they had one more WR and Safety that could play.
