Owners met with players WITHOUT Rex before Roman let go
PolishDave replied to GottaRun's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes and yes and many more conspiracies like - The Pegulas are pulling the strings behind the scenes like puppet masters and Rex is their puppet. -
No. I think it is more like - The guy doesn't keep his job for 7 years getting promoted along the way unless he is a good coach. But yeah, read into it whatever you want.

Doug Whaley- Failure to Field a Competitive Roster
PolishDave replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is an example of how fans grasp for straws when the team is playing lousy. Fire everyone. It's everyone's fault. Everybody sucks. And now its Whaley's fault the Bills have a bad record against playoff teams.. Too funny dude... Face it. Whaley is not the problem on this team. These coaches aren't getting the production out of the talent that is already there. There is plenty of talent on this roster. -
No. Generally no they don't. That is what you have coordinators for. They call the majority of plays. Head coach makes certain decisions like 4th down go for it or not - one or two point conversion attempts - time out management - etc. Well it seemed to me that Tyrod was Rex's guy. He was the one who was all excited about him - sitting at The Big Tree with Thurman Thomas reviewing tape on this new explosive player they were looking to bring in here. He was gung ho on Tyrod for a reason. He knows plenty about offense. If its his neck on the line, I would think he would want to make sure it gets done right.

I am wondering why Rex hasn't announced that he is taking over the offensive duties. He is the boss. If he fires a guy for lousy performance and wants to fix things, why doesn't he fix them? I have a strong suspicion that he knows (better than Roman did) how to get production from Tyrod. And he could easily have his bro running the defense.

Doug Whaley- Failure to Field a Competitive Roster
PolishDave replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If you want to have a running game, going out and getting one of the top rated running backs in the league makes a lot of sense. So, I applaud Whaley for getting the best back he could get his hands on. It is unbelievable that this staff can't get more production out of the running game with Shady as the running back, but maybe Shady isn't as good as he was in years past right now. Still, I don't see how anyone can blame him for getting a star running back if the intent was to be able to run the ball. As far as giving him a complete pass - I don't think the guy is perfect. I think he is top ten in terms of talent evaluators. I give him that praise based on his selection of free agents, trades and yes drafts too. Name me another GM who gets that trade done for Hughes while giving up a mostly unproductive Kelvin Sheppard? I am completely convinced Whaley will build a Superbowl team. I think he is well on his way. We are a quarterback short - as are most teams. If we could get players to lay off the weed and knock off the other personal life antics, this team would be much, better. Maybe that is Whaley's biggest fault - not paying enough attention to personal character. Other than that though, the guy has an eye for talent - He spots talent in players that are relatively unknown. I am confident that the injured guys he drafted this year will end up being good players and this team will be better yet. Getting rid of him would be dang foolish and would set this team back a lot unless they got someone else in here that could evaluate talent that well. And I really doubt they would. -
Doug Whaley- Failure to Field a Competitive Roster

And that kind of turnstile mentality is what leads to decades of mediocrity and constant non-stop rebuilding after mediocre 8-8 or 7-9 or 9-7 seasons. Isn't anyone else here entirely sick of that? -
0-3=Manuel as the week 4 starter
PolishDave replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Okay...So it doesn't mean he sucks. But it also doesn't mean he doesn't suck. I think that is a fair assessment that most of the NFL would agree with. Ask the guys who get voted there what they think or the people who voted for them. Maybe they voted for them because they think that player sucks. You don't get voted there because you played bad football that year. It doesn't mean you are going to be a hall of fame player, but for god's sake, its not a knock against you when your peers vote you as one of the best. -

Yes he was an alternate - second or not I don't know. So does that mean he sucks? -

I think we just entered Bizzaro world or something. Tyrod would have to play as bad has he did in the ProBowl last year. Oh wait.....oh yeah....he did play in the ProBowl last year. Cuz he sucked and everyone else in the NFL thought so too. That's how you get to play there. -
Yeah because I am sure that is the fix for the situation. Because Tyrod is like 14 years old and commanding his high school JV team. Dude....that is not how you motivate adults... That is how you motivate kids and prison inmates. None of us really know why Tyrod isn't playing his best football. It appears that Rex thinks Roman has something to do with that. I will defer to his judgment on this one. Let's see if it makes a difference or not.

Ridiculous. Tyrod has to play a lot worse than he has been before he would ever get benched for EJ as the starter. -
Doug Whaley- Failure to Field a Competitive Roster
PolishDave replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well you could make that argument because he started in 1993, but the last two playoff appearances - Doug Flutie was QB. And there were a whole bunch of other players on the team that never played on those Superbowl teams. -
Doug Whaley- Failure to Field a Competitive Roster
PolishDave replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, during the Butler years, the Bills were in the playoffs more times than not or maybe it was only 50/50. So yeah, I guess he was a bad talent evaluator. After all we should be in the playoffs every year. -
How quickly you forget how EJ looked like a high school JV quarterback compared to Tyrod when they competed for the starting position last year. It wasn't even close. EJ had his shot and still has it. The problem is EJ isn't good enough to start in the NFL. If he was, he would have won the starting position outright. Face it, the guy just isn't good enough. Just because Tyrod isn't playing his best football, how does that in any way make EJ a better football player than he has been? It doesn't. The best QB on the team is Tyrod and its not even close.
-
I love how the argument is Whaley sucks because the Bills didn't win the Superbowl last year. Where was all this love for GM Elway before last year's Superbowl run? All of a sudden he is the perfect GM. How convenient of an argument. Guess what then, by that logic - then all the other team GM's suck too.

Doug Whaley- Failure to Field a Competitive Roster
PolishDave replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Doug Whaley is the best Gm the Bills have had since John Butler. He has proven himself a savvy talent evaluator - which is the hardest part of his job position to get right in my opinion. Good Gm's are not a dime a dozen. Whaley is bringing in talent here and this team will go far if the coach's figure out how to use the talent effectively. That is where the real problem is. The only thing I could really fault Whaley for is signing guys who have questionable character at times - and then the team suffers for it - like with meat head Dareus and his big contract only to have him miss games each season since because he can't control himself in his personal life. I do miss the old days when people like Marv said how much character matters. I think that is part of the reason the Bills' teams of the 90's gelled so well. But Whaley does know talent when he sees it. And I can't imagine the Bills finding a better talent evaluator to replace him. They would take a step backward in all likelihood. -
Why do people think the offense will change
PolishDave replied to Yeezus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its easy to be ultra-pessimistic and just say - Eh...nothing will change. But, one thing I know is that (at times) this offense has looked really explosive (in a good way). And as a coach, your job is to find a way to get the most out of players. If these coaches were getting average or better performance out of the existing players (quarterback included), then this team would look like a contender (offensively anyway). And all we would need is an average defense - which we have. I am guessing that there is more than one thing broken in this offense. Firing the guy who wasn't getting it done makes sense. Maybe the new guy finds a way to get it done. Maybe he just fixes one or two broken things and that is enough to turn this team/season around. The potential is there on this team - at least on paper. They just need better offensive coaching/preparation/organization/management. They need to solve whatever is holding Tyrod's game back. Start there first. He is a better Qb than what we have seen. Something is up. -
Why was Rex "afraid to pressure Fitz"?
PolishDave replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am a big believer in beating good quarterbacks by beating them mentally. During the first Jet's possession I felt like the Bills were getting good pressure and getting Fitz rattled a little bit and off to a good start of ruining Fitz's game. Obviously Fitz still succeeded in that drive, but I thought the Bills were doing what they needed to do to beat him. If they had just kept up the pressure, Fitz would have begun to fold. We have seen it time and time again. When the pressure is really on his shoulders he commits egregious mistakes. But then the pressure on him subsided and he started really picking apart the defense. I really think that Rex and crew unknowingly sat Fitz up to have the perfect game. It was like we threw a couple of right and left hooks at Fitz early, but because he got up every time we hit him, then the Bills decided to quit trying to punch him and went back to jab, jab boxing. I feel like the BIlls were trying to beat Fitzpatrick's arm rather than beat his mindset. If they had tried harder to beat him down mentally, the Bills could have and may very well have come away with a big win there. -
Against Arizona, If Past is Prologue
PolishDave replied to jumbalaya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
4. Goodwin catches a deep pass and instead of running into the end zone he tries to see how far he can long jump into it. He completely clears the endzone and lands out of bounds past it. The ref signals touchback. Goodwin yells at the ref and breaks a rib while shouting. -
My Dust-Settled Observations on the Jets/Bills Game
PolishDave replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm right with you there. Each of these games he has been missed a great deal. It just pisses me off even more that that stupid S.O.B can't lay off the doobie. Piece of crap. I hope he sits at home sobbing about how much he let his team down just so he could have a few giggles as he eats his Doritos. Dumb ass stoner loser. -
I don't know Will Smith was at the game? Cool. He's a Bills fan.
