  1. The main difference is, of course, that in one case you're looking at the poor exception to a player's great career and in the other you're hoping that a player can re-create the good exception to an otherwise poor career. I hope Cassel can do well for the Bills. Heck, I hope Cassel does well and that EJ does better and beats him out, but if I'm Whaley or Rex I'm not counting on either. I'm looking hard for another QB until I find one or one emerges from my roster.
  2. I'm looking BPA, preferably at a position of need for both picks and OG and OT still seem to be among the team's needs so it wouldn't be the worst thing.. Still, I'd rather see one OL and a different area addressed with those two picks. Besides, there's only so much youth you can put out on an OL at once.
  3. Beautiful comment from my wife: My two favorite teams are the Sabres and whoever's playing the Sabres.
  4. That's how he ended his career (the last couple seasons or so), but it sure wasn't what his game was about during his peak. He was absolutely a game changer. Even the injury knock is a little hollow. He played recklessly - and fast. That's going to take its toll. I expect him to make it to Canton. Incidentally, I heard that the Steelers were pushing him to retire so they wouldn't have to cut him. That's strictly a PR thing. It does increase the possibility of him un-retiring in a few months, however. That'd probably mean following Lebeau to TEN. He isn't nearly the player he was, but he could certainly find a role on an NFL roster.
  5. Even ignoring the potential problems tagging Dareus (twice) could result in - hold outs, bad will, trade requests, playing to protect his health, etc. - how on Earth do you figure it would save money? Not to mention the fact that it would be a short term solution at best.
  6. Cap space is definitely becoming a factor in Buffalo, but there is enough room left to lock Dareus up now. I want to see it done before the season starts. If negotiations linger into next offseason and the Bills are forced to tag him things could get ugly. Under no circumstances can they let him test free agency. There are teams with way too much cap space for that.
  7. In football terminology what Hernandez's lawyer did was throw up a Hail Mary. He knows the best he can do for his client is to try to put enough doubt about who pulled the trigger into the minds of the jurors that Hernandez gets convicted of a crime other than 1st degree murder. I wonder if we might hear from his two buddies at this late hour now that his lawyer tried to throw them under the bus.
  8. Chip is also a guy who only came to the NFL after the NCAA made it clear he wasn't wanted there anymore due to cheating at Oregon. While I think a lot of cheating goes on in the NCAA and the NFL, I still have a very difficult time respecting him.
  9. You both missed my point. I wasn't twisting anyone's words around, I was trying to make the point that the poster was cherry picking by pointing out the good and ignoring the bad. Gushing over half a season of being a good teammate on the heels of being a terrible one - so bad that he forced a cheap trade - is a stretch in itself. Add in the fact that his production was below average during that time makes it worse. Hope that's clear now. I guess we should all just wish really hard and our dreams will come true. I just can't do the Pollyanna thing and lie to myself. I'll stick with a reality-based view of the world. People do sometimes change and I've acknowledged that possibility several times in this thread, but it's pretty rare. I hope he does and it works out, but I will need to see some proof before I count on it.
  10. That is a ridiculous simplification of the situation. No, it really isn't. So he will average about 3 catches and 30 or so yards per game in 2015, then be released in the offseason before the big money kicks in next season. Or maybe he'll be traded mid season. Just like last year. Wonderful. He didn't answer it. And they aren't sold on him or he wouldn't be on deal that is a one year show me contract with high dollar future years that each must be earned. That's not a committment, that's a one year tryout. If they were sold on him, he'd have gotten a long term commitment with real upfront, guaranteed dollars. I've said my peace and I will leave it as that. Again, I hope it works out differently this time.
  11. They liked him well enough to bring him in with a "show me" contract. I don't get all warm and fuzzy about any coach saying anything positive about a player on their team unless it is quantifiable. Honestly, what else are they going to say about him? The quantifiable part is 8 games, 29 receptions, 350 yards and 1 touchdown with the Jets. If I'm Rex I'm not thrilled with that production rate or his injury history, but I'd be happy to talk him up because he does have talent and because he can help the team if he lives up to that, stays healthy and feels like playing. Oh, right, that "hard worker" thing you mentioned. Did that label apply when he repeatedly benched himself when he was with Seattle? Those are just more empty words when compared with his history. Hope that answered your question. Now answer mine: What makes you think it'll all be so different with him this time around?
  12. I guess I'd point to the Vikings parting ways with him, the multiple locker room altercations he had in Seattle, their decision to part with him despite the picks given up for him and the huge contract they gave him and the Jets decision to part ways with him after part of a season. I hope he has turned a corner and works out, but counting on it is foolish - at least at this time.
  13. http://www.nfl.com/player/percyharvin/80425/careerstats My problem with Harvin is this: The Bills will be his fourth team in four years. He's played in 23 games in the last three years and 14 in the last two. If it was just injury issues I'd be taking more of a wait-and-see approach, but he's been a consistient locker room problem too. There is a lot of added risk there. I wasn't a fan before he got here and I'm not a fan now.
  14. I agree with Kemp that Woods is the second best WR on the Bills - until Harvin proves otherwise. Talk is cheap. All Harvin has proven is that he wears out his welcome quickly. While I sure hope he lights it up, I will believe it when I see it. Sammy - He'd be the best WR on some teams, but I think he is much better suited to be a "Y" rather than an "X".Harvin - Nope, not a chance. He's an "X", but wouldn't be the best WR anywhere and hasn't shown he can be counted on due to both attitude and injury. Woods - He's a good WR who can be counted on, but isn't a #1 anywhere.
  15. Busts: Funchess, Coats (neither can catch) Sleepers: Nelson Agholor, Michael Bennett
  16. As others have said, NO won't be trading him now. The trade possibility was to create cap room and/or try to get him to alter his contract. They came to a new agreement. Trading him now would put NO in a worse cap situation than if they had done it before the reworked deal.
  17. I am breathing a sigh of relief after last night.
  18. Rivers would definitely put this team in the hunt for a Super Bowl. I think we'd be one of the favorites. It would be nice to have even one playoff win this season to get the team some experience in that respect. Teams have to find value somewhere. Maybe for the Bills it's drafting a QB. Maybe it's drafting other positions this season and next, changing out some highly paid players and signing someone like Rivers (next offseason). Or doing that and trading for a different QB.
  19. Take a look at his contract. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6493/andy-dalton No freaking way. He's no better than what can be had in free agency, he'd cost as much or more in salary plus he'd cost something in terms of draft picks or players. Oh and then there's the whole choking in important games thing.
  20. Sounds about right. Fringe playoff team. A bona fide franchise QB would really make them a favorite.
  21. If it puts him in the NFL's substance program then it has to have some impact. I would think it would do that.
  22. Several years ago I had to have my shoulder labrum repaired with one anchor. That recovery was tough. I had it done at the Cleveland Clinic by a doc that did the surgeries on MLB players (just got lucky on that). It's a situation that bears watching. Sammie is a lot younger than me and a pro athlete so he's obviously in a better spot for recovery. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes quite some time for him to get all of his speed back, though.
  23. Thanks for the hard work, Bandit. Great read.
