  1. I am confused as to why the vast majority of posters pencil Reggie Ragland into exclusively being a run thumper 3-4 type linebacker? I have to admit I did not watch him play at Alabama much, but at his workout for NFL teams I dug up that he ran a 4.62 and have read about his great instincts. Why would it be out of the question for him to be able to be a great sideline to sideline guy as well as coverage linebacker, imo 4.62 is very good speed for a backer playing any spot.

Not sure where you see 4.62. Everything I see is that he ran a 4.72 forty. That's actually not that great as 4.8 is considered the minimum performance for LBs. In fact, he's near or below the minimum standards in many categories. Take a look at this breakdown as it has his metrics and notes minimums:

The other big concern of mine is that he played on an exceptionally talented Alabama defense. He was very well protected there and he wasn't exactly asked to do that much in coverage. I'm not saying he can't surprise me and become and all around LB, but I just don't think that's likely. He just looks like a 2 down thumper to me, but I'll be happy if I'm underestimating him.

Here's the NFL.com profile that jibes with the first link:

Comparing him to Luke Kuechly is crazy. Just look how he tested:

  2. Any chance that if the Pats win today, Brady and/or Belichick call it a career(more so Brady than Bill)? I would actually root for them to win if I knew that meant the Bills would never have to face them again.

    Wishful thinking?

I'd almost root for them if I thought this would be the case. It's just wishful thinking though. The hype regarding trading Garoppolo and his potential value coming from Foxboro tells me neither Brady nor Belichick is going anywhere any time soon.
  3. They could do that I agree but it is a band aid solution. For me Zach is a nice fit as the will Ragland is best suited to playing the strong side on passing downs. They need a real do it all guy between them. Who knows how McDermott sees it?

Getting a stud do-it-all MLB would be the best case scenario, but I'm just trying to work with what we've got. I'd like to see what Zach can do in the middle behind a quality DL. As for Ragland, where I want to see him on passing downs is on the sideline. No way do I depend on him to cover a TE or RB. Remember, the Nickel is the base defense in the NFL now. That means two LBs (or one LB and a safety-LB hybrid) on the field. Zach can be one of those LBs. Ragland would be a liability.

  4. Would you take Michael Vick in his best rated year over Tyrod Taylor? If you would then I'd say Tyrod is capable.... in a year when the replacement options are far from exciting - Tyrod provides a middle of the pack option - the difference between QB 7-17 isn't a lot. And the price per cap is very respectable --- I've been torn but after further review I think keeping Tyrod is worth the risk, and a healthy offense may assist him in a return to 2015 levels or better.

    2010 Vick vs 2015 Taylor - a wash

    You are an idiot.

  5. yep there is a huge Budweiser plant in Columbus. My neighbor works there and gets like 10 free cases per month of all kinds of beer varieties that they brew there. He doesn't really drink beer so he delivers it to our doorsteps (a few select neighbors) every few weeks. I'm never moving :)

I used to work in the office building on Busch Blvd, just down the street from the plant. Right by the water towers. I usually love the smell of beer brewing and the smell from that place changed depending on the beer they were brewing, but it was usually pretty gross. Too much rice and corn in most of the recipes. Some days it was good though.

  6. Go...

We always have foods from the two cities being represented in the game. I am so freaking tired of NE foods! That said...

    Sam Adams

    Sweet tea & vodka

    NE clam chowder

    Lobster rolls

    Fried chicken

    Peach cobbler

    Pecan pie

Nice. We usually add the host city as well. Not hosting this year though. The late start and finish to the Sunday game has put a real damper on SB partying.

  7. I honestly hope that doesn't sway him. Get his status checked out, confirm he should be fine, then get value. He should be fine in plenty of time. Hell, even if he missed a month but was truly a stud, TAKE A STUD WHEN YOU CAN! Maybe that's just me. A lot of people freaked out on that last season..... (NOT saying Shaq is a stud, but was a terrible pick because he missed some time. But you know what? He got fixed!)

Totally different situation when the player will be healthy before training camp. I'd be delighted with Hooker at 10.

  8. I made my rational for it. Of course that's assuming they feel a need for a QB. If you look at the class for QB JG is a much better QB than all of them when he came out 3 years ago.

That said I am happy if the Pats trade or keep him. I don't mind having a damn good backup just in case Brady gets hurt. I also think the media pumping up that the Pats want to trade him, I think they would but not unless it was a damn sweet deal for them.

Hell I hear Texans fans saying offer Clowney and a 2nd for him... I have also heard SF wanted him as well...

Well, you know, good luck with that.

  9. Unless you work in the Browns front office, you don't know WHAT they will offer. (Neither do I it's pure speculation.. but seeing as how they gave up a 3rd for Collins in a position a lot less valuable and NOT the face of the Franchise insay they give up #12 pick. I don't know why that sounds awful IMO he is a more known commodity than any of the QBs in the draft and I dare say if he came out this year he been top 5 draft pick. (That's how weak the QB class is.)

Again pure speculation on my part too.

The Browns gave up a 3rd round comp pick for Collins. If they hadn't re-signed him, they'd be in line for a 3rd round comp pick next season. That's not exactly free spending. The speculation in the media is coming from Pats' shill Jason LaCanfora and its sole purpose is to drive up value for JG. Mary Kay Cabot simply recycled his "report" of Browns interest because, quite frankly, that's all she does.

Also, I'm from Cleveland and I do know a lot of people there. Some are even in the know with the Browns. I can give you this much: the Browns haven't even decided on their direction concerning QB in 2017 and that includes any decision on whether or not to pursue a trade for JG. Anyone saying they know what they'll do in this regard, be it JLC, MKC or anyone else is full of ****.

From my personal observation, the thought of giving up the 12th pick for a second round prospect with precious little gametape and who is on the last year of his rookie deal would be beyond asinine. It's just wishful thinking by Cheatriots fans and media hype coming from the team.

  10. Which is exactly why Whaley's got his eyes on him too.

Imagine the jersey sales in Buffalo for Hooker & Butt.

    That's hilarious!

And I agree with the early post about Hooker only sliding into the 10-17 range. All that this does is eliminate his offseason workouts and OTAs. It doesn't have an effect on him making training camp, him playing in 2017 or his longevity. He will likely be there at 10 for the Bills now, which would certainly not have been the case otherwise.

  11. the problem is none of those qbs you mention are available as a replacement

its not our money....the only thing that actually matters is what counts on cap

gotta take all that with a grain of salt till we see what they do.....the new draft slotting salaries make taking and stashing a qb much more economical

The comparison is to show how grossly overpaid he'd be under the extension. And everything paid to him counts against the cap even the team can defer some of it.

  12. I'd agree. Browns have an extra one and like I said above they just traded a 4th (conditional 3rd) for Jamie Collins who needed to be signed to a contract still because he was going to be a free agent.

Why wouldn't they pay more for their perceived QB of the future? Why would the Pats take less?

The Browns have signed Collins to a 4 year extension already. The Pats will get the Browns 3rd round comp pick for him. The Browns have picks 1, 12, 33, 52 & 65 through the first three rounds. If they do offer anything for JG it won't include a first.

  13. want to delve into it a bit further to explain your position?

why is it too much to pay a middleing starter qb middling starter qb money with the options so limited?

    http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/quarterback/

$40.5M over two seasons is a very significant commitment. It puts him up there with the likes of Rivers, Ryan, Brady, etc. (see link above). He's not remotely close to that level of QB. The average salary gets a little better if he's kept longer, but in all honesty does anyone here want Tyrod for 5 more seasons? I sure don't. I can see him as a bridge QB for a reasonable price, but he not nearly a good enough passer to be a guy I'd make a long term commitment to.

People talk of keeping him as a bridge, but how do you give a QB that kind of cash and then try to draft his replacement? Doing so would certainly undermine him and create controversy. It wouldn't reflect well on the Bills as an organization either. Obviously retaining him wouldn't allow for even another bridge level QB to be brought in and it would take cap space away from retaining other talent - and the Bills have a lot of FAs this offseason.

The tough part of this is that there's no guarantee that the Bills will find a better replacement (unless they find one immediately in FA before the roster bonus is due). They might not, or it might take years. They've been looking a long time already. But sticking with Taylor is just another way of kicking the same can down the same road. He's just not a good enough passer to warrant such a significant commitment.

  14. is a twenty something pay salary ok for a decent option?

because even decent qbs are hard to find

It's too much, even for one season. And Taylor would be in for two at that rate. As painful as it might be, the Bills need to walk away. I understand why they might do it - and why some fans want them to - but everyone will regret it if it happens. It'd just be wishful thinking and unwarranted hope leading to a bad decision.
