  1. Alburquerque already has the Isotopes, right? Why do they need a NFL team?
  2. One word of caution however: stay away from 20 page threads. They can really suck off all your energy and time. I have already fallen victim. Learn from my mistakes, be frugal with your reading and posting.
  3. I think another point to make is some people have a regular 9-5 job where they are required to be there for those hours. When there's no work to do (because work comes in spurts) managers usually expect that employees will take it easy until they need to apply themselves again. Also, some general pauses in work are accepted as a means to keep the energy going and to keep work being done at a high clip.
  4. It's a difficult to set a hard and fast rule on that. You know what they say about obscenity: you know when you see it. Well, I think the same can be said about slacking off. There's a difference between taking a reasonable breather when working hard and dicking around and ripping someone off. We just kind of know it when we see it and I am sorry to hear about what happened with the plumbers. Many others in the profession would understand how to keep that balance or not have it be a question at all.
  5. Sorry to hear about your father. I know how great it is to share a passion for a team with one's father and how many great memories can spring from that. I hope you'll enjoy your time here and thanks for joining.
  6. I agree with what you are saying. It's really a judgment call as to what is legitimate and what is not when it comes to how productive one is. I think we can call this stuff a gray area that should be worked out between personal responsibility and management when appropriate. It seems clear, though, that claiming 28 hours in a day is a bit more black and white than posting a message or two while at work. In general, this is why I dislike hourly wages. It is a necessary evil but it does not promote industriousness. Work harder, less hours, less pay. Bad incentives indeed.
  7. I believe he does get fined if he does not show up, however.
  8. Yeah the two policies are inconsistent. On the one hand, they claim they want players to look professional, but on the other hand they want the coaches like bums like Bellychoke. I am sure others have brought this up, but this is a long line of the NFL being unreasonable with its rules as it was with Peyton Manning wanting to honor Unitas and Plummer wanting to honor Tillman.
  9. Did you ever stop to see why he wants to wear the suit? To honor his father who used to wear suits when he coached the Niners. That and trying to have a professional atmosphere doesn't seem silly to me.
  10. This whole Palmer effectively taking over as president bothers me as well. First off, if he's being brought in as an advisor, why is the VP just running away to his office. Even if the VP thought he needed experience guiding things, he should at least be seeing what happens and overruling when necessary. It also feels like a man inviting someone to have sex with his wife because he cannot satisfy her enough. Very emasculating...
  11. First off, I like your avatar. Get Fuzzy is the best comic out there right now. Unfortunately, I have to disagree with what you just said, however... If it was all about maximizing marketing money, then the league could force heads coaches to be decked out in every possible piece of licensed apparel. Team socks, headbands, armbands, pants (Zubaz preferrably), sunglasses, gold chains, watches, etc. At some point, though, the coach looks like a walking billboard and the extra marketing money is not worth the cost. It seems like it may be worth it to forgo the minimal reduction in licensing revenue in order for a coach to be able to look more professional to his team. If wearing team apparel is so crucial for a league's success, then why don't they do it in hockey and basketball as well?
  12. Seriously.. China would want to B word and moan, but they would not want to risk nuclear war over some loser citizen of theirs. The raid would not have been even necessary in real life. Usually regimes that believe due process is a bullet in the head, do not become idealistic over some wayward national. They would have tried to extract some favor from the Americans but would have given up the scientist in a minute unless he knew something damaging to the Chinese government.
  13. Dude, do you work for Coors?
  14. It's funny: Coors used to be considered this great exotic brew that you were lucky to get your hands on before they went national. C'mon, didn't anyone see Smokey and the Bandit?
  15. I never really liked the term "professional." Where's the cut-off, what makes someone professional? And if someone is professional, who are the amateurs?
  16. Never heard of this, but just looked into some more information online. It looks like the authorities dropped the ball on this for a long time: http://www.crimelibrary.com/serial_killers...t_4.html?sect=1
  17. I am waiting for the first idiot to post how her actions were understandable considering the treatment by her husband...
  18. Unfortunately, I doubt that will happen and this piece of garbage will live a long life while the victim's families suffer unimaginable pain.
  19. They've had a price cut?
  20. Hmm.. maybe it's time to let go of regrettable threads started in the past. For everyone's sake...
  21. Yeah, the Blue Laws are what's holding New York back.... Actually, I think the Blue Laws help alcoholics learn about planning ahead and saving. This can help them learn to save and invest their wages once they get back on the wagon.
  22. Don't blow your cookies? Sounds like a board game or a twisted sexual act.
  23. Hmm.... you are pretty fertile. I'll remember to check back with you if my woman fails to produce a male heir as required.
