Reed had a step on Madison out of his break. The pass Losman threw was well behind Reed and he had to slow down for it, allowing Madison to catch up. As it turns out, the pass was so far behind Reed that he had little chance for it. Had he led Reed another couple of yards, it likely would have been a TD.

Reading comprehension problems, I take it? I said that he made the right decision to throw to Josh Reed. Reed was open on the play. The throw itself was a poor one.

They may get a shot at him. He's not ideal size for a LT these days (about 6'5 295). That could be enough to drop him outside of the top 5. Still, I'm not sure I want the Bills to draft him, or any OT in R1. Why? Because knowing this team like I do, they'll consider the OL fixed and ignore the other OL trouble spots! I'd rather see them draft OL heavily in R2-4 and build an overall solid line than have one great player and a bunch of bums.

He actually made the right decision. Reed was open. He made a poor throw. He wasn't the only one to make a poor play today.

Look around the league. There is an awful lot of bad QBing out there.

I disagree. There are a lot of WRs who are asked to do the same thing as Moulds, particularly WCO WRs. How many starting NFL WRs are averaging under 10 yards per catch this year? Few, if any other than Moulds. I don't blame Moulds entirely for it, but there comes a time when you have to acknowledge that it may be time to move on. At this point, I view him to be at a similar point in his career as Andre Reed around 1998 or so. He'll still get some catches and is an above average possession reciever, but the big plays aren't there anymore. The real problem is that Moulds has never been overly consistent, either.

Would you be happy if McGahee was averaging 3.0 yards per carry? No. He's getting opportunities, he's making some yards, but you expect a lot more from a starter getting as many chances as he has. There's really no other explanation for it, unless Moulds had a tantrum on the sidelines or something.

Dumb decision? Reed was open. If anything, it was thrown behind Reed. Had he led him a little, it would be 30-3.

I don't blame him for the bad OL, inconsistent QB play, or the playcalling. I do, however, blame him for not doing more with the opportunities given to him. He's caught about 60 passes. Its hard to excuse 9.5 yards average on those catches. I think age and injuries have caught up to him. The Bills seem to be realizing that its time to move on. They need to see what their young WRs can do with Moulds off the field.

It was a 'coaches decision'. Seems rather obvious in that light that it was due to ineffectiveness. At the very least, they want to see what happens when he's out of the lineup.

Ineffectiveness is my guess. 9.5 yards per catch this year, folks. The QBs haven't helped, but that's still awful. For comparison, Larry Centers averaged 9.0 yards per catch his last year in Buffalo.

Its happening very quickly, actually. It takes most QBs about 3 years of starts to really start to 'get it'. Based on what I've seen for the last month, I think he's still got a long way to go, but he's ahead of schedule, IMO. He's been our best offensive player in that span, even if he is not yet consistent.

The Bills may be bad, but the Dolphins are awful. Yes, this is a game the Bills can win and probably should win. 17-10 Bills.

They're just now figuring that one out??? He hasn't been the same since playing with injury in 2003.

Mularkey has never had a top receiving TE to work with, so I don't think we can automatically assume that he would not find a way to use one in his offense. Guys like Campbell, Euhus and Mark Bruener aren't going to scare anyone and aren't guys that you feature in a passing game.

The Bills may have 3 2nd round DEs on the team, but production is what counts. We all know that this team can't pressure the opposing QB with just the front four. That's a situation that needs to change, whether the upgrade comes at DE or DT. Its also notable that the Bills have two 3rds, a 5th, and a 6th round pick invested at DT, plus a significant amount of money in Sam Adams as a FA signing. In terms of investment, DT vs DE is about even. Production is about the same, too. The truth is that the Bills are average-to-weak across the board on the DL and none of the four starters are good enough to warrant passing on an elite prospect. An additional consideration? Ryan Denney is an unrestricted FA after this season and Kelsay is after next season.

For the most part, I like the FA pickups. I definitely like the idea of trading Nate Clements under the franchise player designation and then signing a quality FA to replace him. Edwards and Bernard would be nice FA additions as well. Not a big fan of bringing Peerless Price back, though. If we unload Eric Moulds, we need a WR with some size. In the draft, I do not like Eric Winston at all. Watching him in the opening game of the season, he struggled badly with speed rush to the outside. Every single time. OK, he's been out with injury, so maybe he just needed some time. Watched him again against Georgia Tech a week or two ago. Eric Henderson did the same thing to him and was beating him to the point that I did not even bother watching that matchup in the 2nd half. I don't think he's a first round pick. In fact, at this point I think he is questionable as a day 1 pick. I like the rest of the draft well enough, except that you don't have enough picks! The Bills will have one more 3rd round pick from the Henry trade for sure. They will also have at least one pick from the FA loss of Jonas Jennings and Pat Williams (probably one for each). My guess is that they'll get a 3rd for Pat Williams, based upon contract and a probable Pro Bowl selection. Jennings may also net the Bills a third based upon the huge contract he signed, though I suspect it will be a 4th. While playing time is also a factor in the compensation formula, I do not think injury counts against it.

Its a matter of expectations. Most fans expect a 2nd year QB making his 6th career start to struggle at times, but expect him to improve, which JP is clearly doing. That said, I don't think there are many similarities in their play. Losman is a much more aggressive, down the field passer. He doesn't always complete them, but he seems to attempt far more intermediate range 10-25 yard passes than Holcomb ever did.

Just a bad decision. There are going to be more of those before he becomes a good NFL QB. But he's getting there.

That's what happens when you have a jailbreak up the middle vs a young QB. None of them can deal with it.

Needs to quit stepping out of bounds before he catches the ball, too.

Mario Williams would be my choice at this point, with Kiwanuka a very close 2nd. The Bills haven't had a good pass rush from the front four in years. They will finally have a chance to add an elite pass rusher and I don't think that's an opportunity they can afford to pass up. Big, athletic pass rushing DEs are probably the rarest of the rare in the NFL these days.

That's a big part of it. But its not really the fault of the DBs. The problem is the fact that the Bills don't have a pass rush and must blitz to pressure the QB. If they pick up the blitz, there's usually going to be someone open.

Happens every year. As the season winds down and it becomes clear which players won't be back, the fans try to convince themselves that the player the team is going to lose really wasn't that good anyway. Nate Clements probably won't resign with the Bills, so that's reason enough for many fans to convince themselves that he sucks. For my part, I think he's one of the best CBs in the league.

I give it a C-. Its bad, but it could be worse. A LOT worse. 2000 was an 'F' draft. There are no top tier starters from this draft, but at least these guys have made some contribution. The real problem is that its not worth making a major effort to keep any of these guys once their contracts are up.
