  1. They showed a replay from the endzone and I thought it was clearly a safety.
  2. Having those guys would make no difference. The real reason this run D sucked today is because our DEs have a bad habit of running 10 yards upfield every play, leaving a hole big enough to drive a truck through if it turns out to be a running play. I can understand them doing that on 3rd and 8, but not 1st and 10, as was often the case today and many times last year.
  3. Refs flagging the Bills now on every other play.
  4. Refs blew the play dead due to the penalty? WTF?
  5. Its a new rule this year. You can have five guys hit the punter after the kick.
  6. I had no idea Anthony Thomas was as fast as he looked that entire drive. I'm definitely starting to like that signing a lot. Of course, an 18 yard TD doesn't hurt! The OL run blocking also deserves a mention. Very good against an excellent DL. Pass protection hasn't been bad at all, either.
  7. I don't think he'll make the final roster. The safety position is already going to be a tough cut down with Leonhard, Baker, and Bowen fighting over one or possibly two available roster spots.
  8. Looks like Gibson was among the first round of cuts: http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=4066
  9. Tim Anderson did start the game, but Kyle Williams was in by the 5th play. John McCargo also played on the opening drive.
  10. Martin Nance has played so little in the preseason that it seems as if they're trying to hide him. If they thought he sucked, I think he'd have been one of the guys cut a few days ago. My guess is that the Bills view him as a player with a lot of potential, but also one who isn't at all ready to play and will struggle to make a team already loaded with talented WR projects. So yeah, I agree with the earlier poster and I think the Bills are trying to sneak Nance onto the practice squad. Andre Davis hasn't shown me much this preseason except that he can't catch. I expected better. I don't think he will make the team and would not be totally suprised if he were one of the early cuts Tuesday.
  11. Actually, Holcomb has the 9th highest base salary on the team for 2006. Granted, that's not the Bills' cap hit for keeping him around, but it does represent the actual money Ralph Wilson will be paying him. It would seem to me to be difficult to justify writing the 9th biggest check on the team to a #3 QB.
  12. I still feel pretty much the same way about the signing as I did then. It was a good one, as long as the Bills didn't try to pass him off as being anything more than a backup or spot starter should Losman turn out to be a flop. The one thing I didn't forsee happening was that he'd go into decline as quickly as he seems to have.
  13. At some point, the Bills have to commit to getting one guy as ready as possible to play for the season opener. I would have liked to have seen Nall get a shot in preseason, but his injury negated that chance. The preseason simply isn't long enough to have a lengthy competition AND ensure that the eventual winner is ready to play. The latter is more important to the team's success than the former.
  14. He was SO bad early last year that I thought it was pretty obvious it wasn't truly an accuracy issue. If it was, he never would have made it this far in his career. He was either getting too hyped up for the game, or he was thinking too much trying not to make the big mistake instead of just playing.
  15. Both may one day become good NFL QBs, but to this point, they've proven even less in the NFL than JP Losman. I'm not too worried that we passed over them.
  16. I wouldn't worry about the fumbles at all. He's never shown a tendency to be a fumbler before. He just had a bad game in that regard. I'm not too concerned with TD passes or even INTs. As long as he doesn't throw more than 1 INT per game on average, I can live with it. TD passes can be misleading. More is always better, less isn't always bad. Troy Aikman had only one season with 20+ TD passes. You have to take the overall performance of the offense into account as well. I also think that the often ignored stats of yards per attempt and completion are very important. If JP is averaging 7.0+ yards per attempt and 12.0+ per completion, he's probably doing something right, regardless of what the TD/INT ratio says. He was close on the latter last year, but has some work to do on the former.
  17. Nah, he won't be cut. He's the Joe Burns of the WR position. No one knows why either of these guys have jobs with the Bills. Its one of the great mysteries of life, I guess.
  18. They showed a good angle of Reed running his route prior to the INT. He looked lost to me, not knowing what route to run and hesitantly choosing to break to the sidelines. JP threw the ball more towards the middle of the field.
  19. If Losman struggles, Nall will get his chance soon enough, anyway. But I agree. Its too late in the preseason to keep depriving the eventual starter of practice snaps. Losman should be the opening day starter. How long he keeps the job is up to him.
  20. I'd probably wait until he'd thrown more than 5 passes. That said, if he continues playing well in the last few minutes, I think its worth giving him some time playing with the 2nd team next weekend and go from there.
  21. Actually, I think Nall was the big winner last night. Had Holcomb also played well, Nall probably would have been out of the running. But Holcomb's struggles opened the door for Nall to mount a serious challenge for the #2 job next week. Given that he's a Levy/Jauron signing, you can bet they'll give him plenty of chances this week. If he can take it away from Holcomb, then he's got a real chance of winning the starting job if not in preseason, a few weeks down the road should Losman falter in the regular season.
