I think Samuel will fill that role not Shakir

I think he is the replacement for Harty, not Diggs or Davis. He's a higher end Swiss army knife.

My brother is convinced that the Bills are sort of evolving the passing game towards the 49ers scheme. Curtis Samuel is basically a poor man’s Deebo Samuel. He will be used to do a variety of things but isn’t a high volume target that Diggs was. Samuel is absolutely filling more of a Harty/McKenzie role than a Diggs role. He’s just a much better player than those 2.

The biggest problem at the moment with copying the 49ers is that they have a guy that the Bills don’t. Ayiuk average 18 YPC last year!! For perspective, Tyreek Hill has never averaged more than 17 YPC. Ayiuk is an elite WR that commands attention and gets down the field. It would be like copying the Chiefs offense without having a tight end.

Shakir is going to be much more than a role player. The advanced metrics on him are spectacular and are screaming to give him the ball more.

I hope so. At this point, he’s a slot receiver that was quite impactful on low usage. He also wasn’t the focus of anyone’s defense. He won’t fly under the radar anymore. Gabe was quite impactful on low usage over his first couple of years. The Bills then bumped him up the depth chart and he didn’t continue to progress. I’m not saying that will or won’t happen with Shakir. It’s just a cautionary tale that he may not produce at the same level with more volume/attention. I think that “quality role player” is more than fair for where he is right now.

That's fair but if they plan on using him down on fade routes and as a big Red Zone target, that wouldn't be too important since he would be going up to get it like he was back playing basketball and boxing out the DB.

That’s fine for a secondary piece. The Bills were lacking a number 1 & number 2 WR. They have some nice role players in Shakir and Samuel. Coleman feels a lot more like a role player than a guy at the top of the depth chart (where he is now).

  4. Great stuff Gunner. I’m a little higher on Carter than you seem to be. I felt that his senior bowl showing was more indicative of the player that he can be than playing with a bunch of future mechanical engineers at Duke. He is powerful and can get low. To me, he can be a productive rotational guy day 1 and play on important passing downs.

Great summary on Bishop too. I like the player and the fit. I think that the Bills will be okay at safety now.

I didn’t love the Coleman pick either. He feels like more of a role player than “the guy.” The Bills seem to be replicating the 49ers passing game but without the field stretcher in Ayiuk (at least he isn’t a Bill yet). Franklin and Baker are guys that I like moving forward. Jacob Cowing is another guy that I would like a little later if Franklin and Baker are gone.

Agree to disagree. PFF is not perfect, but they rated him as 82nd best graded safety with a +56.9 overall grade this past year. And KC let him go, and Bills signed him for less than KC paid him. Bishop, meanwhile, has a reputation as being smart, excels in zone coverage and TE coverage. If Edwards beats him out, its a wasted 2nd round pick, IMHO.

I don’t put much stock into PFF. He’s a lot like Poyer when he got here. The Bills have liked him for a while. We will see I guess but the Bills are solid at S now regardless of how it shakes out in terms of playing time.

My list is just about ending there. The only other guys I really like are Taj Washington. Imo he’s more joystick than Malichi Corley. And I do like Rosemy-Jacksaint. But I feel like they might be available in UDFA. Who knows. I also kinda like McCaffrey just because his bloodline. He’ll probably be decent at least.

I like Malik Washington too. Is it crazy that I still want 2 more WRs? It’s a weak spot on the roster and we can add some different skills.

Give me one of the following guys and I’ll feel a lot better

    franklin

    rice

    baker

    Walker

    burton

    is McMillan gone?

I’m good with Franklin moving forward. I like Baker a lot too. He’s another boom or bust guy but like him. Jacob Cowing is another guy that I have my eye on later. He’s small but quick. I don’t necessarily care that he’s a slot guy. We have a bunch of those. He’s a guy that gets open.

I mean it’s possible, but I honestly don’t, from what I hear is that they loved Pearsall.  Worthy does not at all fit Lynch style of player.  I kept telling people after the combine not to sleep on Pearsall, he had one of the best combines of any WR.  He is much more the type of player SF looks for compared to Worthy.

I’m a Pearsall fan. My thinking was more Shanahan than Lynch. Imagine what that guy could do with Worthy? That’s the same reason I didn’t want him in KC. Worthy is dangerous in the right offense.

What if one of the other teams calling wanted Worthy? It isn't definitely the case that the only way to keep him from KC was to pick him. And I'm not even that fussed by Worthy particularly. I think he is another WR2 and KC has Rice and Hollywood already that I think fit that criteria (Rice maybe a lower end #1 I suppose, let's see). It isn't about the outcome so much as the process to me. My principle is I'm not doing anything I think might help KC.

I think SF was taking Worthy

Yeah, something like that would be fine to me.

Really curious what SF ultimately gets for Deebo if he's the guy though. Feel like it'll less than people think.

I still think it’s Ayiuk that gets dealt. The Pearsall pick is more duplication when it comes to Ayiuk. He also has the easier contract to move. I wonder if you could get Ayiuk for 60 and 128 or something like that? If that’s the case, take Dejean (or Newton here), trade for Ayiuk & then take Baker at 95. That would be 🔥

  11. I don’t believe, for a second, that the Bills, or every team for that matter, didn’t have calls about going up and down. That’s malpractice. Now, maybe you didn’t like the cost that you were hearing. That’s a different conversation. You obviously have to listen. If the value is there, you pull the trigger. That’s exactly what Beane described happening with the Carolina trade.

  12. 3 minutes ago, Fan in Chicago said:

My only counter is that the way to prevent Chiefs from getting Worthy was to pick him ourselves. How else would we have prevented Chiefs getting him anyway? I am guessing that Beane knew that the 3 teams in the middle did not want him

I absolutely do not want to help our arch(est) rival but this sounds like a situation where the Bills got some assets while not changing any of the selections between the two teams

I hear you. The Bills certainly could have taken him themselves. The need and value was there. They could have started with Carolina there and tried to get them to come up for Worthy. SF could have targeted him too.

At the end of the day, you had to take the deal if you didn’t want to draft him. The nonsense about only worrying about your own draft board is BS though. The Bills do need to be concerned about what KC is doing. That’s the team that has knocked you out 3 times.

He jumped up the draft board after he ran a 4.2 instead of a 4.3 like everyone thought.  That’s what I mean by rated. If he was so good he would have been projected higher before the underwear olympics.

If you are referring to John Ross jumping way up after his 40 you are correct. If you’re talking about Worthy moving way up, you’re incorrect. He was always projected early. Here is a mock draft from July 2023:
