  1. Love this but...

How the hell is Tua considered one of the most "clutch QBs"? lol

Last time I checked, football is a team sport.

It amazes me some people treat it like it's boxing.

    "Josh has to beat Mahomes"

    "burrow already beat Mahomes".

It's such a lazy argument and makes me wonder if people even watch the games

Yea to be clear I am against moving Benford. If I was gonna try any of them at safety it would be Tre actually. Coming out there were people who thought because he wasn't a great long speed guy if he might end up at safety in the NFL. I'm not saying it would be my go to option or anything but if I had brought Tre back and wasn't able to secure an affordable vet at FS I'd be open to trying him there.

    Agreed about benford.

Tre would scare me at safety though. Historically he is a horrible tackler. Not ideal for what you need to have in a safety haha

I'm sorry, I don't know how you expect one to read you answering 'easily' to "can Tre get back to his best form?" as you saying "Tre's best form is 80-85% of him at his best".

You're looking at things in a vacuum though. It's not just as simple as "if we can get Tre back, he's the best CB on this team". There's a lot more at play then just that.

First of all, that's a way bigger "if" than you're giving the situation credit for. Secondly, we've already brought in another starting CB and paid a premium price for them while Tre's been gone. And we have to make a decision on that CB now, or else pay him his full 9m for one year and risk losing him next year.

On the other side of that, we have a young, greatly developing starting CB. He's getting better and better and also played at a high level last season. He's both the present and future at the CB position. You don't want to stunt that growth.

Douglas and Benford will be our Starters Week 1. We aren't even going to have the chance to see if White can be "his best form" for some time. Doubtful that when he does, he's going to immediately be that "best form" on top of it. I also think 80-85% of White is not "easily" better than Douglas. I'm sorry, I really don't. I really think you need to re-check Douglas' stats and game videos. I feel like you're making him worse in your own head than he is to bolster your argument for Tre staying.

I just don't see any logical way of looking at continuing to pay Tre in the situations we're in. Unless there's a way to keep him, save more money on the cap this year, and also be able to get out from under it after this season - without paying extra money. If we have to pay him exponentially more going forward to keep him, you've got to stop the bleeding on that contract when we're already in good shape without him.

I don't think @GunnerBill would have Benford moved to Safety. That's an insane idea. You don't move good, young CB's in their prime to Safety.

Elam makes less sense there than he does at CB because playing there requires even more of an understanding of Zone schemes than he's already failing at in the position he's currently in.

I would definitely not move benford to safety.

I just was asking him as he suggested Tre might be back and I was saying in order to make a spot for him, Elam would have to be traded or benford would have to transition to safety.

Again, I def wouldn't move him to safety as you don't mess with a good young corner, but it has been a popular suggestion amongst a lot of bills fans

  4. 23 minutes ago, GunnerBill said:

I didn't quite say that. I said his best form would make him easily the Bills best corner and I really do mean easily. I did not say I think he can easily get back to his best form. But I think even at 80-85% of the old Tre he is a starter on this team.

As for the difference between 2022 season Tre and 2023 season Von that makes me significantly more confident on one than the other..... Tre was not at his best he was giving up more big plays than we are used to but overall he still only gave up 54% completion, 1 touchdown and a 75 passer rating when targeted in 6 games. He wasn't a liability out there. He was just kinda average. Von didn't even sniff average last year. He could barely move. It was night and day if you ask me.

I actually agree a lot of what you're saying with Tre.

However where it gets tricky is the numbers game at corner as of now.

    1. douglas

    2. benford

    3. Elam

    4. Tre

only 3 of those guys are going to be game day active.

I'm assuming you would want to trade Elam or move benford to safety?

As something would have to be done for Tre to be on the roster

How'd the O-line do after he got hurt? They let the Chiefs D-Line run roughshod.

You got to be careful about cause /correlation..

O line could have played worse for many  different ressons and it's extremely shallow just to isolate it to one player going out. (Who's a below average player pretty objectively)

Not just on the roster but starting, and the offense sputtered after he was injured. I know, I know, he's a bum.

My friend is a diehard fan and said Feliciano was a horrible for the most part all season long.

Even great teams have holes in their roster. (Just look at the chiefs receiving group)

No one had a problem with this after his 2022 season.

I was pretty skeptical of it at the time as im not just saying this now.

Kickers are so up and down in the nfl and there's really only a couple guys you can trust year in and year out.

While bass was "good" his first 3 years, he was never really a top tier kicker IMO

Why not just let him play out the 4th year of his contract and then make a decision from there?

  8. The biggest issues in my opinion is injuries, especially on defence.

2021- Tre white- prob win that chiefs game with him

2022- tons of injuries on d but I still think they lose to the bengals as bills were flat

2023- Down to our 4th string retired linebacker in Klein covering Kelce

Meanwhile chiefs stayed relatively healthy during those games and didn't have any major pieces missing.

I am not a "excuse guy " but objectively the bills have had some bad luck with injuries, especially on the d side

Von Miller? Diggs, Tre White and others might eventually have a case too.

Chris Jones is borderline. He has some work to do.

Over the last two years, I'd say each QB has had one surefire HOFer on his roster. Kelce and Von Miller. Miller wasn't in his prime this year but Kelce wasn't either.

It's fair to say that Mahomes had a big advantage in offensive talent in his first few years, but he definitely hasn't the last few years. And when the offensive talent was great, the defense wasn't very good.

Oh Von miller- you mean the guy who didn't play the back half of the season last year and the guy who got payed like 4 mil per tackle this year? The man was a healthy scratch this year for a game, that's how bad he was🤢

Diggs is close but I don't think he will make it - and he comes up small every time they play the chiefs, unlike what the chief elite players do to us

Tre white no way as injuries stopped that in 2021

I don’t think anyone, outside of Baltimore fans, would rather have Lamar as their QB than Josh.  To me it’s pretty clear that Josh is the second best QB in the nfl behind Mahomes. Once Josh starts beating Mahomes in playoffs and getting some hardware we can reevaluate that comparison. But Lamar belongs nowhere near this conversation

I agree. I'm not sure if you read the convo in what I was saying to the other poster, but that's exactly what I'm trying to say about Lamar vs josh.

Where I disagree with though is "Josh beating Mahomes".

It is not boxing and a 1 on 1 matchup.

13 seconds game was Josh's fault?

Even this year. Diggs drops a 80 yard TD and our 5 mil kicker shanks a kick.

If Josh played bad against the chiefs I would agree. But the guy has been elite against the chiefs in the playoffs the last two times they lost and it's way more to do with the coaching/supporting cast than "Josh not beating Mahomes"

The fact that you snicker at Gabe Davis says it all. Here’s a guy who averaged almost 100 yds/game in the playoffs in four games from ‘21-‘22, with 6 TDs. I guarantee that KC would have welcomed him with open arms the last two years. Hell, he would have been the best WR on the team until Rice’s emergence recently.

I’m not saying that Allen’s supporting cast has been absolutely loaded, but how many QBs have that? Not most.

Mahomes’ SB-winning teams are #1 and #2 in postseason points allowed in history. I’m willing to bet that the 3rd string OL he played behind in SB 55 was the worst line ever brought to the big game. He hasn’t had a true #1 WR for two years. His receivers led the league in drops by a mile this year. He’s never had a great running game and for years it was non-existent. The offensive tackles haven’t been very good for two years, and run-blocking hasn’t been good for several years. It was dead last in the NFL a few years ago.

Have you noticed that Reid transformed from guy who was fired in Philly, and widely ridiculed by fans all over the country, to unrivaled wizard—as soon as Mahomes entered the league?

I just think the narratives of Mahomes having everything and Allen having nothing are way off the mark.

    Let's keep it super simple:

How many hall of famers has Mahomes played with? Hill, Andy Reid, Kelce, Chris jones at a minimum? So 4.

And those guys all come up massive in big games for the chiefs.

    Josh? 0...

I agree that it takes a team to win championships. QBs have so much control over their teams’ results that they should get a lot of the credit and criticisms. With his talent I do think Mahomes would be successful no matter where he went.

Allen is a great qb. I think he’s number 2 in the NFL. He’s perfect for the Bills. But we can’t make statements that are objectively not true. Especially when him and the Bills keep failing every year and to the same teams. Let’s have some semblance of objectivity.

Lamar will prob have 2 mvps and Josh has 0- does that mean he's objectively better than Josh?

Eli has 2 rings, Josh has 0. Does that mean he's objectively better than Josh?

Brock Purdy has been to a SB and is in the mvp race- is he objectively better than Josh?

Got to be a bit careful when you just look at "objective" things as it doesn't tell the whole story at all. It is a complete team game

I’ll never understand this narrative that Allen’s carrying a bunch of nobodies. That narrative is closer to true for Mahomes the last two years (especially as Kelce’s beginning to slow down a bit).

Allen’s had one of the best WRs in the game for several years and has two good TEs. Plus a very good RB and solid OL. Davis and Shakir aren’t chopped liver either.

    Gabe Davis? lol..

You are missing two massive factors here

Chiefs o line, and Andy Reid.

Bills o line was finally descent this year.

But McDermott doesn't come even close to Andy Reid and chiefs o line has been top 5 (at least) in football the last 4-5 years.

No. No he’s not. Guess that’s why he’ll be playing in his fourth Superbowl this Sunday.

I mean, I see your point about Mahomes as it's hard to argue he's not #1 now.

But it is a team sport and personally I'm not a fan of judging players just by championships.

Does Mahomes go to 4 super bowls without one of the greatest head coaches and tight ends of all time?

Not too mention other hall of famers he has played with. (Hill, Chris jones)

(And even an all time clutch DC in Spags)

Because it costs a team 2 1st round picks on top of the massive contract.

I think thats worth it for a franchise QB.

Like if we are in the drought years, I would have been thrilled to do that for a QB like Lamar.

But the reason teams were scared off was because Lamar was looking for fully guaranteed money and no owner/gm was going to trade those assets and give him the fully guaranteed deal
