He said "you should have been training instead of playing golf." Josh doesn't like being held accountable. Diggs was the only player on this team that wanted to win and held other players accountable. Now we have no leadership

How could you possibly say Josh isn't a good leader?... lol.

Because he doesn't have a melt down when things aren't going his way?

  2. My one criticism of Beane is he doesn't have elite players on this team outside of Josh. (And maybe Milano)

He is a very good GM who's built a very good team.

But he does need more elite talent if the bills are going to get over the hump IMO

I understand your point of view.

Personally, I think we've seen what it's like to have a bunch of good to above average players and not enough GREAT players on the roster. It gets us to the Divisional round, and then we lose to a team with more GREAT players.

Me? I want more GREAT players around Josh Allen, and Nabers has the potential for greatness.

Give me one elite, blue chip playmaker with the potential for GREATNESS over a handful of potentially GOOD players, all day long and twice on Sundays.

    Well said.

This is exactly the point I was trying to make when I made a thread a month back on "do the bills have enough elite talent".

On the offensive side it's pretty objective that Josh currently has 0 elite players to play with.

He actually needed more money. 3M more on his 18.5M. And wanted FA in 2025. So they turned him into a rental and gave him more money.

    Telling.

Just saw Dawkins post about Diggs , but that's about it. Not sure if there were more

    ALL OF THE ABOVE!

This was a rube move made by a Rookie GM.

    Gap Diggs?

    okay?

But don’t give him away for a few used GOAT deflated balls, cost your team a fortune, get nada in return and most importantly- do it BEFORE the Draft, rather than disguising it during!

Thereby getting the entire NFL to laugh at you when you come calling to move down for Odunze! And you better be getting an Odunze type after this situational FUBAR!

    Couple drinks tonight?

I would agree if it was a 2024 2nd... I know Rick Spielman is saying this may be the best WR Draft, heck even the best Draft overall in NFL history. It's the perfect storm of the covid and NIL fallout... This is a crazy good Draft year.

Fair points. I do think the bills will use that 2025 2nd to trade up and get a receiver though. We shall see

I don't mind trading Diggs and I like the cap relief next year... I think they were just done dealing with him tbh...

But the compensation is terrible and I don't care what anyone says... Not getting something in 2024 is a massive failure for Beane because this may very well be the best WR Draft in recent memory. Sure Beane can dig his way out of it. But come on... He could not even get them to throw in a 3rd this year? Houston has 42, 86, 123 and 127 this year! He could not get ONE of those picks in a WR heavy Draft? It's not great...

I actually think getting a 2nd for Diggs (although it's 2025) is pretty good.

His contract is a mess, he's showing signs of decline, and he's on the wrong side of 30.

Oh and he's a pre madonna

Well they don't know how to draft one, so might as well trade for or sign one.

They definitely need more pass rush, no argument there.

But the bills cap situation right now makes it pretty unrealistic to absorb another 20 plus mil contract. (And trade draft assets)

And we needed him.  We should have made the trade.

We need a guy like him for sure.

But that's way too much salary and the bills would have to restructure a bunch more contracts  and backload that reddick contract

Why would they trade him? Cap space?

Yep I would guess so. He wants to get paid and eagles probably didn't want to invest in him

I am hoping Penix will be there at 28.  Maybe get a good price for the pick.

I see where you are coming from, but I am hoping for the opposite.

I hope 6 QBs go before the bills pick so there is better value at other positions.

Realistically as well, I think it is extremely unlikely BB will trade down in the 1st

History has shown he will move up if anything

The best way to look up air yards vs yac I know:

    pro-football-reference

    pick yer guy (Josh Allen)

scroll down to "Advanced Passing" "Air Yards" tab.

You want CAY/comp (completed air yards per completion) and YAC/comp.

What you see there is a bit of a muddled picture, but to the point about deep threat - we can see that between 2021 and 2022 (when I would argue the Bills receiver corps fell off in quality), there was actually an INCREASE in CAY/comp from 6.5 to 7.5 y/a suggesting Josh was going for the deep shot instead of the short and intermediate routes that were Beasley's bread-n-butter.  A full ypa jump is likely significant.

We can see CAY/comp plummeted this past season to 6.1, while YAC rose to its best value since Allen's rookie year - probably on the heels of Kincaid emerging as a reliable short-yardage target with decent YAC, Cook emerging as a short target with significant YAC abilities, and Shakir showing some YAC chops - while Davis and Diggs and Josh just couldn't seem to get on the same page deep.

I don't think the Bills offered Diggs a restructure with more cash up front for more security later in his contract.

I don't think so either, there was miscommunication between the OP and I

I interpret that differently.  I take it as he doesn't want to be traded and he has no interest in giving money back.  He knows he can't be moved with is contract as is.  We aren't eating that dead money with nothing in return.

Are you referring to a pay cut opposed to a restructure into a signing bonus?

Either on Twitter or Instagram, someone recommended that Diggs restructure his deal to help the team or facilitate a trade.  Diggs responded personally and said "nope"

Crazy. If what you said is true (which I'm sure it is) , that just shows he wants out.

Cause who would turn down cash up front with more security in his contract

This should put the rest what the rest of the league actually values him at

    Certainly a talented player

I would never call him a top five corner in the league right now... He's over valued and the Chiefs are cashing in

He is a strict scheme fit not a guy who will excel in any system

I think it has to do more with his contract than him as a player. (In my opinion)

Teams don't want to give up high draft picks and pay a corner 20 plus million.

I think even the dolphins only had to give Up like a 6th round pick for Ramsey or something last year?

Has there ever been an Alabama prospect that has excelled in a Bills uniform?

Might be a hot take but dareus for a few years.

I get once he got paid he turned lazy and was bad, but he was dominant for a couple seasons

We're paying him the same amount as Miami is to play this year.  They must not have even discussed a contract with him.  Like why didn't he just play here for the $2M were going to have to pay him.  I don't get it.

I would guess a few reasons:

1 . Probably didn't want to take a pay cut  or the bills simply didn't offer him a contract

    2. His girlfriend (or wife) wants to be in Miami and he's got a house in Ft lauderdale

    3. no state tax in Miami

    1 year 3m isn’t particularly expensive

3.2 for a team that needs a good backup,  I agree it's affordable.

But anything over 2.5 is a bit expensive for the bills IMO, especially considering they are tight against cap and Josh is the most durable QB in the league

We're talking about giving up a sixth round pick and the Bills have more late-round picks than they could possibly roster, so I don't think that's much of an impediment.

Rumours are they could have gotten more from other teams, but they did right to fields by sending him to a place he can compete for a starting job.

I would guess it would have cost the bills a 4th to get him

  18. 44 minutes ago, mannc said:

I think it's possible.  JA and Fields have somewhat similar playing styles.  Trubisky has already proven that he's a barely adequate backup, so the bar is pretty low.  I don't think Fields on his rookie deal is a very expensive backup, although honestly, I'm not sure what hit he's going to have on Pittsburgh's cap...

fair points, but do you think it would be worth the investment to trade assets for most likely a one year rental who is pretty expensive for a backup QB? (In a tight capped team)

I haven’t heard, but it would not shock me if the Bills were interested.

Why do you think the bills would be interested out of curiosity?

He would be a fairly expensive backup, and his 5th year option would kick in the following year.

So would basically be a 1 year rental as an expensive back up
