Wild Card Weekend: Bills at Jax - 1st Half Thread
BillsFan130 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pretty much the whole season -
I agree for sure. Will just be interesting to see because he was drafted top 5 and some general managers may overpay for those odd flashes of brilliance I agree
-
It will be interesting to see Landry’s contract . Who makes more, Landry or Watkins? Landry obviously has been more productive but a team may overpay for Watkins “potential “
-
I hope you’re right!
-
There will still probably be 80 percent of Jags fans there. Maybe even more. Not saying they are going to be that loud, but either way will most likely still out number Bills fans 4 to 1 or so
-
Yep looks that way. Not saying it doesn’t work every time. But you need to identify and re sign your key players. I would say Gilmore was not a key player, especially considering he’s a cover corner opposed to zone. If Mcbean and Mcd think Gaines is a key player to this defence, pay the man the money. You can’t just keep letting your good players go and spend first round draft picks on the same position hoping they will be as good/better For sure. I’m just saying if Mcd and Mcbean think Gaines is a good player to the defence, you have to re sign him. Cant let him walk just because he’s a free agent
-
The Bills always do that though. It's the vicious cycle of letting good players go and then drafting the same position. I hope they can sign Gaines personally. I know he is injury prone, but the guy can flat out play

5 Interception games... fun fact

Don't remember the last part you are referring to, but I'm sure you are correct. I just remember being one of the most heart breaking games I have ever seen -
Who should replace Gruden on MNF?

I’m going to miss Gruden in the booth. There was a lot of hate on him, but I personally found him hilarious -

I still don’t understand how the Bills lost that cowboys game lol -
The End of the Nathan Peterman Era...

For sure. I’m not going to criticize him too much for the decision. -

He was bad for sure, which is why he made the change. I'm just saying I cant see him switching TT when they are in the middle of a playoff race just to send him a message. Mcd is doing everything in his power to win that game at LA, and he obviously thought Peterman gave them a better chance to win. (Although that clearly wasn't the case) -

Lol I don’t know man. They were 5 and 4 in the middle of a playoff race. That wasn’t a time to “send a message “. He just got the decision wrong. He of course thought Peterman would give their offence a boost -

I agree most of your points there, except the Big Ben comparison. We will just agree to disagree on that one haha. But no, I can't say I blame Mcd for trying something different as TT was ineffective. But at the same time, it kind of was a head scratcher how he thought Peterman would be ready for a tough LA defence on the road. It ended up being the wrong decision, but Bills weren't going to beat the Chargers with TT anyways. In regards to Peterman, the odds are for sure stacked against him as he is a 5th round pick with a limited skill set, but you never know I guess. -

How exactly was Mcd right? Im not going to bash him for trying Peterman because TT wasn’t getting It done, but in hindsight the move to start Peterman was clearly wrong. He even admitted he was wrong by going back to TT the next week -

I am not writing off Peterman. I’m saying he wasn’t ready to be put in that chargers game. And yes I understand your points but I don’t agree with the comparisons at all. Here is why... 1. Ben has won 2 Super Bowls and is extremely accomplished. Therefore there is absolutely no concern about whether he should have started that bad game /whether he should start the rest of the season 2. Peterman has accomplished nothing. When a 5th round rookie has a historically bad half in his first game, that tells me he wasn’t even close to being ready. So ya people can look away when Ben has a bad game because he’s a very accomplished vet. There is absolutely no concern about whether he will bounce back or not. People are going to have a harder time looking the other way when a 5th round rookie gets plugged into a game in which he had no business being in, and completely crapped the bed. Do you not understand that massive difference? I am not saying Peterman is a bust. I’m simply saying he is not ready yet, and he had no business playing that game. I don’t think one person in Pittsburgh was calling for Landry jones to start against Jax, or after bens bad game. If you don’t understand that, I really don’t know what to tell you lol -

If Nate Peterman wins 2 Super Bowls for the Bills, and has 1 bad game for the Bills in which a season they finish 13 and 3, I think Bills fans would give him a little slack...... don’t you think?.. Once again you are confusing an accomplished vet who had a bad game vs. A rookie who was completely lost out there and has accomplished nothing yet in this league. I don’t understand your comparison at all -

Yes I would say a 14 year vet was ready and prepared, he just had a bad game. He’s seen ever single defence and knows what coordinators want to do to him. Hard to judge Petermans game against the colts. Number 1, the Colts have the worst pass defence in Football Number 2, that game was a blizzard and any game plan they had on Peterman goes out the window because of the conditions. There really isn’t an argument about that game against LA. He was way over his head against a tough defence on the road. Im really not sure how you can state otherwise. He arguably had the worst half for a QB in NFL history -

You’re missing your own point here. I understand you’re saying bad things can happen and great qbs can have bad games as well. But when Ben has a bad game does anyone question whether he was ready to play? Does anyone question the coach for starting him? Does anyone question whether he will start the next week or the remainder of the year? With all due respect, your analogy with Ben was not a good one at all. You are comparing apples and oranges here . Every single great QB has had terrible games. I don’t think anyone is arguing that if that’s your main point . Theres a massive difference when a 5th round rookie gets thrown into a game in which he clearly wasn’t ready for vs. A future hall of famer who just had a bad game -
Problem for Mcd is he took a 7 win team to a 9 win team. Which is good, but not great. Mcvay took a 4 win team to what, a 11 win team? Probably 12 if he doesn't rest his starters. Whoever wins coach of the year generally has one of the biggest turnarounds in terms of wins and losses. And 7 to 9 wins won't be enough. And rightfully so in my opinion as Mcvay has done wonders with that turnaround

You can`t compare a future hall of fame QB who had a bad game, to a 5th round rookie who was put in when he wasn't ready... It`s completely different. If Nate Peterman had even half of Ben`s resume, he would have probably started the 2nd half that game, and would 100 percent be starting the week after
