Outstanding! What does smoking pot have to do with being a drug addict? What does taking aspirin have to do with being a drug addict?

"Next year" is always the best year for drafting quarterback
The Dean replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While this may have been true for one, or two teams, it is far more likely that most teams that passed on him (some twice or more) decided he didn't look as good up close (after looking at tons of tape, talking to his teammates and coaches, interviewing him, etc) as he did from a distance. I simply can't believe every NFL team was bluffing by talking him down and passing on him. That's preposterous. Besides, do you think NFL teams pay much attention to what "NFL insiders" have to say, when they have their own insiders? I think these inside reports have the biggest impact on fans, not on teams. Now, I'm not saying he won't be a good QB. I actually think there is a decent chance he will be OK. But that is more likely to happen if he is with a team that believes he is good, convinced he can work in their system, likes him, etc. It's much harder to succeed with an organization that really didn't want you to begin with. Actually, I think SoCal Surf has the "proper" criticism (if you will): That may be true. Just like Don Nelson (NBA) never had the ability to identify and develop a good big man. On the other hand, while some of the scouts are the same, this is a new FO, so I'm not sure we can paint them with that same brush, as that reputation comes from previous regimes. -

What he should have said is, "The NFL doesn't value QB exclusively on how they did in college" or "College success ALONE is less important for QBs than most other positions in NFL evaluations." For the most part, any RB (for example) that excels in a major college conference is considered NFL material, and those that dominate in those conferences nearly always are considered prime prospects. That isn't necessarily the case with QBs. Recently guys like Colt Brennan, Graham Harrell joined Heisman winners Troy Smith, Jason White, Eric Crouch and Chris Weinke as guys who were OUTSTANDING college QBs but weren't highly regarded by the NFL. Right up til the 2010 draft, there was debate about exactly where Tim Tebow would be taken. Many thought he was well overdrafted in the 1st, while others thought he was the best QB prospect in the draft. It's pretty obvious NFL teams weren't as enthralled with Clausen as are many here. He wouldn't have slid so far had he been considered a can't-miss QB. Now, I understand if some want to criticize the Bills FO for not recognizing Clausen's talent. But I don't see how anyone would criticize the FO taking a player they like over a player they don't like. Taking a QB in the 2nd round simply for the sake of taking a QB in an early round is insane, if you aren't sold on that QB. -
No doubt. Rte 128 around Boston is probably even more dangerous, but it isn't an Interstate. Say what you will about Bostonians at least they actually think about driving while they are driving. They may drive aggressively and rudely, but for the most part their minds are on the road. Who knows what the bulk of Florida drivers are thinking of while they drive.

Um... That sounds dirty, and not in a good way.

Actually I thought so, too.

Study: Marijuana has no effect on driving skills
The Dean replied to Fingon's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I've only given the study a cursory once-over and it occurs to me I didn't see what type of pot was used in the study. If they used a Cannabis Sativa, I don't think the results are that surprising. If on the other hand, they used Cannabis Indica, I'd expect some deterioration in driving skills. For those of you who don't know, here is a (very unscientific) explanation of the effects of these different types of weed: http://www.amsterdammarijuanaseedbank.com/...iva-indica.html -
Wired isn't a possibility in my install. I'll have to do a bit of research to see what issues, if any, the Samsung has with a wireless connection.
-
I've set up a few Roku boxes and was mightily impressed. Very easy wireless install and looks like a breeze to operate. But I have a question for those in the know. Has anyone setup a Blu Ray player for Netflix? This week I will have to set this up, and it will by my first exposure to this method: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx...N82E16882676125

"Next year" is always the best year for drafting quarterback
The Dean replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was hoping the Bills would take Clausen in the 2nd round. But they didn't. Putting Clausen aside for a second, I like the Troup pick quite a bit. And we can't expect a team to pick a player if they don't like him/don't think they can work with him/think he doesn't fit the system/etc. It's pretty clear they rejected Clausen as their potential QB. What good would it do to draft him in the 2nd round? That's the part I don't understand about the hissy fit being thrown by those who wanted Calusen (or any other player the Bills decided not to choose). If the new coach and GM don't think a particular player will work, you can't expect them to draft that player...particularly in the early rounds. Judge them by the players they picked, not by those they didn't. -
So, let me get this straight. You're bragging because you like drinks that come with umbrella's? Just yankin' your chain.

I understand what you're saying. Honestly though, I think it seems that way to a tourist more so than if you lived here. Particularly if you only spent a day or two here. The downtown area is a bit touristy, to be sure. But even in that area there are pretty cool local hangs. St Augustine Beach does a very good job of balancing the local flavor with beach tourists. Very low key for the most part. Now keep in mind I grew up in Niagara Falls (before it became a TOTAL hell-hole) and lived in San Francisco, Manhattan Beach in SoCal, Boston, etc. So I'm a bit acclimated to a bit of tourism and tourist bulls#it. And, to a degree, I have learned to take occasional advantage of the little extras and bonuses that come with the tourist crowd. We probably have slightly more/better restaurants, get slightly more/better entertainment, etc than a similarly-sized city with no tourism, located just outside of a dump of a city like Jacksonville.

Sometimes I go to this place here in St Augustine to gram a slice and beer, and noticed many cases of Genny, Genny Cream and Genny Light stacked up in their window display. I laughed right out loud, and fairly heartily to boot. I almost went back to ask they WTF was up with that. I don't think they are from WNY/CNY/Southern Tier/etc. Genny Cream. That's some pretty nasty stuff, right there.

Well said, Mr. Bay. I don't know if you and I have ever discussed Amarone on The Wall. One of my favorites. Of course I'm a big fan of booze, too.

"Next year" is always the best year for drafting quarterback
The Dean replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it may seem like that based on a few recent years, but it isn't that odd for a QB crop to be considered strong for the current year, while the next year or two look weak by comparison. But I think you are correct that a future "great year for QBs" can become quite ordinary as it becomes reality. QBs get hurt, or exposed by opposing coaches and defenses. -
I'm with you on the Old Rasputin. Very nice. I've tried the Eye of the Hawk, but it was far too sweet for me. I just finished the last of the George Dickel I had. Now I have to decide if it's vodka or cognac. I think I'll go vodka, then cognac.

My sister and bro-in-law just got back from a 2-week motorcycle trip to DC and back down the coast and they went to Mt. Airy, NC, the town Mayberry was based on (and birthplace of Andy Griffith). Sounded like they had a good, and very corny, time. My bro-in-law got a haircut at Floyd's Barbershop ($8). They also took a Mayberry themed tour in a police car that looked just like the one Andy and Barney drove. Apparently everything is very inexpensive and authentic small town from another time. I think it's about an hour from Raleigh. http://www.visitmayberry.com/andygriffithmayberry.aspx http://www.visitmayberry.com/Mount_Airy_Ba...Barbershop.aspx
