The Media's Portrayal of Trump and His Presidency

Juan Williams: Donald Trump Is the 'Snowflake President' As seen on The Five Juan Williams said Thursday on "The Five" that Donald Trump is the "snowflake president," given all of his gripes with press coverage and allegedly unfair practices by bureaucrats in his administration. Reacting to discussion on Trump's war of words with Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein -- who Trump said "thinks like a degenerate fool" -- and several media outlets, Williams said it shows a pattern of complaints by the president. "He's going on about 'alternative facts' and 'fake news' -- Oh gee, I wonder what the FBI had to say when he picked up on this conservative report saying Hillary [Clinton's] emails were hacked by the Chinese," Williams said. He said that after Trump publicly mentioned the report, the FBI came out and dismissed the claim. However, at least one Republican lawmaker, Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas, has stood by it. http://insider.foxnews.com/2018/08/30/juan-williams-says-donald-trump-snowflake-president-battles-media-fbi-doj?intcmp=ob_article_footer -

Furious Trump trapped by hundreds of Woodward tapes President Trump is livid at the betrayal and stunning allegations in Bob Woodward’s forthcoming "Fear," but limited in his ability to fight back because most of the interviews were caught on hundreds of hours of tape, officials tell Axios. The big picture: The book, out Tuesday from Simon & Schuster, re-creates — verbatim — page after page of private conversations with him. The 420-page portrait is all the more damaging because many of the scenes concern foreign policy and national security — truly heavy stuff. One reason that few passages are being disputed: Woodward based the book on hundreds of hours of tapes of his interviews with current and former West Wing aides and other top administration officials. Nevertheless, several top officials issued denials: White House chief of staff John Kelly: "The idea I ever called the President an idiot is not true, in fact it's exactly the opposite." Defense Secretary James Mattis: "The contemptuous words about the President attributed to me in Woodward's book were never uttered by me or in my presence." https://www.axios.com/bob-woodward-fear-book-excerpts-donald-trump-9f7fa27f-7c8b-4f28-bcc1-99fcb22be315.html

Woodward's 448-page book, Bob Woodward: Trump's aides stole his papers 'to protect the country' President Donald Trump's closest aides have taken extraordinary measures in the White House to try to stop what they saw as his most dangerous impulses, going so far as to swipe and hide papers from his desk so he wouldn't sign them, according to a new book from legendary journalist Bob Woodward. Woodward offers a devastating portrait of a dysfunctional Trump White House, detailing how senior aides — both current and former Trump administration officials — grew exasperated with the President and increasingly worried about his erratic behavior, ignorance and penchant for lying. Chief of staff John Kelly describes Trump as an "idiot" and "unhinged," Woodward reports. Defense Secretary James Mattis describes Trump as having the understanding of "a fifth or sixth grader." And Trump's former personal lawyer John Dowd describes the President as "a !@#$ing liar," telling Trump he would end up in an "orange jump suit" if he testified to special counsel Robert Mueller. "He's an idiot. It's pointless to try to convince him of anything. He's gone off the rails. We're in crazytown," Kelly is quoted as saying at a staff meeting in his office. "I don't even know why any of us are here. This is the worst job I've ever had." https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/04/politics/bob-woodward-book-donald-trump-fear/index.html?adkey=bn

Sen. Graham weighs in on Meghan McCain's criticism of Trump: 'She is her father's daughter' Washington (CNN)Two former friends of Sen. John McCain say his daughter Meghan McCain's pointed criticism of President Donald Trump in her speech at the Arizona Republican's memorial service on Saturday reflected the character of her late father. "She is her father's daughter," South Carolina GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union." "If you say something bad about her dad, you will know it, whether you're the janitor or the President of the United States. She is grieving for the father she adored. I think most Americans understand that." Former independent Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, who joined the program with Graham, said he was a "proud uncle" watching McCain's speech at the memorial service. "She was direct ... the way John was," Lieberman said. https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/02/politics/lindsey-graham-joe-lieberman-cnntv/index.html -

Professor Michael Eric Dyson: Trump a 'lethal liar, dimwitted dictator' Aretha Franklin personified black girl magic — and in no way did she ever "work" for Donald Trump, said a university professor who called the president a "dimwitted dictator" while speaking Friday at Franklin's funeral. Michael Eric Dyson, a sociology professor at Georgetown University, was referring to Trump's recent comment about Franklin previously working for him. "And then, this orange apparition had the nerve to say she worked for him," Dyson said to applause. "You lugubrious leech. You doppelganger of deceit and deviance. You lethal liar, you dimwitted dictator, you foolish fascist. She ain’t work for you. She worked above you. She worked beyond you. Get your preposition right. "Then, he got the nerve to say he gone grab it. That ain't what Aretha Franklin said. 'I’m a give you something you can feel.' Like the brothers in the streets say, 'tap lightly, like a woodpecker with a headache.' So, don’t you sully the memory of our great queen. Aretha Franklin was an original." https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/detroit/2018/08/31/michael-eric-dyson-president-donald-trump-lethal-liar/1162592002/ It's a good thing black people love Trump, no need for dog whistles. -

Johnny Boy Song by Celtic Woman Lyrics Oh, Johnny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling From glen to glen, and down the mountain side. The summer's gone, and all the roses falling, It's you, it's you must go and I must bide. But come ye back when summer's in the meadow, Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow, It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow, Oh, Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so! But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying, If I am dead, as dead I well may be, You'll come and find the place where I am lying, And kneel and say an Ave there for me. And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me, And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be, For you will bend and tell me that you love me, And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!
