    First round pick, terrible second season where he showed little to no improvement and was promptly yanked from the field, had a cadet of die hard fans who defended him through thick and thin when he hadn't done anything substantial to earn their loyalty. Maybin sucked more but there's a lot of parallels. JP is probably up there too.

    Maybe Aaron Maybin is a more apt comparison. Falls on the depth chart, 1st round pick. Marrone was our HC. He wasn't third string.

    PFF doesn't rate things on the surrounding offense. It's a pure QB rating. I'm not saying I entirely disagree with you but it's close enough to go either way unless you have some bias.

    EJ is improving though. I'm not used to being the guy advocating for him, but if he's cheap, why not keep him and hope he Alex Smith's somehow.
