  1. Can "preemption" BE a "response"?
  2. I'm not sure I get your meaning here. I don't care about religion in public schools BUT which religion would it be? Judiasm? Christianity - which denomination? Islam? Wiccan? That's the Pandora's Box that would be opened if public schools had to embrace "religion". I don't see that as having any relationship to religious issues as relates to gays. I'm sure you can explain what yo meant; I don't want to make assumptions.
  3. WTF?! Rough night last night? Here's a news flash for you: no-one, right, left or center, likes terrorists of ANY stripe. Duh.
  4. Yeah but they're both dead so you'd better watch out - it appears as if being a neocon could be dangerous as well as loathesome!
  5. link Normally I don't pay much attention to church stuff but this disturbs me. I guess she can go to another church. Outside Seattle there was a similar case brought and the minister was "acquitted". Somehow I can't picture Jesus running these people out of town. He didn't mind lepers or murderers, surely lesbians cannot be any different.
  6. I wasn't the one complaining about the board, you jackass. I have very low expectations and you (in particular) never disappoint me.
  7. It's not just government where you see nepotism in WNY. There's a Fortune 100 company in Rochester, known for making copiers and headed by a female CEO, who has a Sr. VP reporting to her....who happens to be her brother. In the group where I worked, the VP's secretary was the mother of the VP's son's girlfriend...the girlfriend AND the son were also hired ... nice people both of them and I remain friends to this day, but still....
  8. Who cares. Just another bureaucrat.
  9. This is the same guy who tried to appeal to the "Christian" natures of his constituents in a plea to raise money specifically earmarked for education. The Lord knows Alabama is perennially at or near the bottom of the heap both in money spent per student as well as SAT/ACT scores, # of high school graduates and # of college-bound seniors. He was defeated soundly by a 75% margin. I'm just surprised that the GOP hit machine hasn't gone after him yet. I give him a lot of credit for not only having principles but standing by them - he's got to be a lonely guy in that party.
  10. Well, all that stuff confuses them. You need to boil it down to sound bites and stuff they can understand. Remember these are people who think FAUX News is deep and that people like Coulter, Limbaugh and O'Reilly are great thinkers. You don't want to go removing those little barriers that they hide behind that make them feel so safe and secure. By the way, I get darned PO'd about paying for teenagers and their little bastards, if only because most of those little bastards will themselves become teenagers with little bastards. Case in point is this person in TX who caused a ruckus last year when she had 2 sets of twins (at once), naturally. She was about 17 I believe ... the father married (to someone else) ...he does not pay child support and she does not work...her father is in jail...her mother lives in CO .... they all live with gramma who was a teenager who gave birth to a bastard who gave birth to THIS bastard who just delivered bastard #5, fathered by the same married guy ... so figure out statistically how many little bastards the 5 little bastards will have, all living off government checks. Unless something breaks the cycle. But of course, on this board, the only acceptable cycle-breaker would be sterilization and of course cutting off the money that feeds the poor little bastards who didn't ask to be born in the first place. Ahhhh, if only the answers were as simple as the simpletons think .... sound bites, think sound bites.
  11. and you have the gall to B word about the board? The guy put some thought and research into starting a discussion and because it may not reflect favorably on YOUR side, or poorly enough on HIS, you want to stifle it? This board has gone to hell because people here WANT it that way. You want to spend your time either gushing over your boy and agreeing with your fellow wingnuts or stomping on people who don't agree with you. You don't want discussions. That jailhouse mentality will serve you well though, given that you're a thief and all and it will catch up with you.
  12. BLZRUL was what I had on my special plates (Bills Helmet Logo too of course) when I lived in New York. When I moved to TX I didn't use that on my plates because I was afraid it would be taken as Bulls, not Bills, so I became BBILLS. But I've applied to be BLZRUL here in Seattle.
  13. Now how did I know you were a marketer too? We should have our OWN little board!
  14. My husband only has to be reminded that at least he doesn't have to sit through Madden's Mooning Over Montana sessions any longer to put the Favre-Fest in perspective. I ask you, how can they freak out over some damned guy who can't even pronounce his own name? It's FavRAY, not Farrrve. Sheesh.
  15. Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford in their younger days....George Clooney now. David Carr ain't bad, although he's a little on the skinny side. But maybe that's just in comparison to those big fat linemen. But all-time probably is Richard Gere.
  16. I lived about 6 miles from a Bass Pro which was strategically located within 1/2 mile of an international airport. The place was ALWAYS jammed. Particularly since they offered shuttles from the airport for people who had layovers or who flew in just to visit Bass Pro. The success will depend not so much on the store does, it will probably do well because it'll draw from all the sportsman in WNY, PA and Canada, but on how much the state gives away to get that store there. There's what they tell you and then there's the truth. I hope it works out.
  17. What was REALLY fun was to be sitting with a bunch of Bills fans and sandwiched in with us, for some reason, two very lonely Seahawk fans. Of course the stadium started to empty just after the half so they found better seats elsewhere. Alas, their view overall was not any better. They just didn't have to listen to us up close and personal! I found it hard to dog anyone yesterday, even with 3 INTs. It wasn't the perfect game, but far better than most we've seen these past few years. What was odd was some of the clock management ... but I'm not part of the inner circle, we got the big W and I'm not gonna question it.
  18. Hey Kelly - where were you sitting?! We were there will all the Bills Backers. Not too far from the Bledsoe family so we had to tone it down when he tossed those picks. This is not my first Seahawks home game but a couple of notes about their fans: - The notion of cheering for an injured player who gets up is obviously foreign. They sat there like slugs when anyone went down, our team or theirs. - When the score was 10-0 and the Fleahawks scored three points, they booed. Had it been the other way around, we Bills fans would have gone nuts knowing we just shaved the score by 3 points. Clearly Seattle really isn't much of a football town. All the people at work who went to the game have a voice today, except me. What did you think about the Blue Thunder? My husband is going to audition, he is a great drummer and they'd be lucky to have him.
  19. My point exactly. There are approximately 60 Arabic speakers in the intelligence service that we know of, period.
  20. Throwing bodies at a problem won't solve it. And so far that's all this administration has done. Pretty funny how conservatives B word that Clinton CUT government and side with Bush's GROWING government without asking for indication of a return. Now if they'd replace, say, a certain number of those Russian-speakers with Arabic, that would be good (if they could GET the Arabic speakers, which is a separate issue). That could be done without adding headcount. As to funding - the claim that it's "existing" funding is a little squishy. The aide interviewed refused to address that question in detail. It's coming from somewhere, that's for sure. Just because it doesn't mean going to Congress for supplemental funding doesn't mean it's all in the clear. Somewhere another program will be un- or underfunded for a period of time, because unlike a finite project with a completion date, once you hire someone they tend to want to CONTINUE to be paid and THAT funding has to come from somewhere.,
  21. I heard a report on NPR earlier this week that an email was circulated to the White House press corps, quietly, that Bush plans to increase the CIA ranks by some 50%. I can't believe that would be the ENTIRE CIA ranks, so perhaps it's the covert section ... at least they're going to try to get people who speak Arabic (somewhere I read that there are only about 60 people in intelligence who speak Arabic but LOTS of Russian speakers). Anyway I haven't seen it in the mainstream press yet but there was a tape of a White House official confirming this. So maybe this is part of Bush's answer to the report and also what he meant when he stated late last week that he had a "plan to create more jobs". More government, just what we were needing.
  22. Ah here's our resident Cliff Claven who knows Washington State law better than anyone eh? According to everything I have read and heard here, a machine count is automatic when the difference is <2000. You should immediately perform the public service of advising all media outlets plus both parties. Or if you are too busy to do so please send the relevant link to the statute that I may forward it to them and advise them that they have wasted time and taxpayer money. It really doesn't matter to me personally - the Democrat is a jerk and the Republican an idiot. What irritates me is the hypocrisy. The state GOP chairman, when asked about a manual recount, stated regarding the Dem's asking for a recount that if "Dino Rossi is ahead at the end of the day, he is the governor-elect, this is over, she she (the challenger) needs to do the right thing, the gracious thing and the honorable thing and concede". When asked what if Christine Gregoire was ahead after the recount, the same guy said "That's fundamentally different." His name is Chis Vance and you can Google it and find your own source. Hypocrites.
  23. The law is that a machine recount is mandatory when the margin is less than 2000 as I said originally. Interestingly, the current winner after the machine recount is by 42 votes but originally was by 261. More interestingly, the ballots that were LEAST accurate are those that are electronically scanned. Given that that in one area alone there were 2,262 votes that swung the other way, that's somewhat telling. By law any candidate can request a hand recount in one county or the entire state. That request cannot be made until after the recount is certified - I believe the date is December 6. At that time I hope that the recount will be made of the entire state. There are anamolies in several counties that would give them time to sort out, including the fact that in Snohomish county the number of votes exceeded the number of registered voters. King County is a big Dem stronghold, I think Snohomish is more evently split but I may be wrong. The GOP files lawsuits BEFORE the state-mandated machine count to toss out the provisional ballots in King County (only) and to stop the machine count. Both were tossed.
  24. Although there is no overt homosexuality in the film between Alex and his longtime boyfriend...well, we wouldn't want our kids to think that a great warrior could be GAY. Goodness. They'll start to wonder about Hannibal...Charlemagne....all those Khans...and of course all those self-styled great warriors on the TBD board.
