  1. ?????????????????? who's pissed? who's painted? In my mind that girl should have been allowed to wear her silly dress. She would have looked like a fat lumpy sack of potatoes in an ugly red dress. If some black kid didn't like her dress his or her free speech could have been to don a white pointy hat. Talk about non-issues. That girl spent four years planning to make a fool of herself. She should come here where most of you can do it without even trying!
  2. Ok she changed her mind, now she wants to wear a dress that has pictures of Osama bin Laden printed on it. Oh and the prom is being held in lower Manhattan.
  3. My daughter wants to wear a dress with swastikas all over it to her prom. Should I let her?
  4. I heard someone being interviewed state that The Passion couldn't be nominated for best picture because it's a foreign language film. It could be nominated in other categories though. I don't know if that's true - I'm not much for following that sort of thing. Typically in my opinion many pictures that win all those awards aren't very good. For example I thought Titanic sucked.
  5. Yes he did and having cops on the street and providing health insurance for children is VERY BAD isn't it?
  6. And what YOU forgot to add is that votes which weren't originally counted in the first tally OR the machine recount in OTHER counties, NOT DEMOCRATIC, were added to the tally by their elections boards. In fact after the machine recount Rossi's lead was 42, and with all counties BUT King reporting he GAINED votes. Oh dear. But wait! The Democrat did not file a lawsuit to bar the votes that were found and added to THOSE tallies. Neither did the GOP. Of course the ISSUE is that THESE 700 votes are in a Democratic-leaning county. The GOP did NOT file a lawsuit against counting those OTHER votes. But, no matter what. The hand recount is DONE and King County will certify the Dem as a winner by TEN VOTES WITHOUT THE 700. Oh dear, facts again. Get out the iodine.
  7. Elmhurst Dairy has 700 direct and distributors' employees based at its plant site in NYC. The owner of the company strongly believes what he has read in the May 2004 report Securing a Bomb: An Agenda for Action, which was published by the JFK School of Government at Harvard University, and Grahanm Allison's book Nuclear Terrorism are realistic appraisals of successive Administrations' failures, despite repeated warnings of 'mushroom clouds on American soil', to put the maximum effort and resources toward recapturing and safeguarding loose nukes and fissile materials and protecting NYC (and America) from nuclear terrorist attacks. He agrees with James Woolsley, former Director of the CIA that, "Our survival as a civilization may well depend more than anything else on our heedibg the recommendations of this chilling and superbly crafted book" (Nuclear Terrorism). He has decided to make it a corporate citizen's priority to seek a full-time dynamic leader/organizer to launch a program that involves private industry, government agencies and political leaders to do everything in their power to stop the ULTIMATE PREVENTABLE CATASTROPHE. His model for this appointment is Jodi Williams, who occupied no position of authority and had not special standing on a matter that required decisions by presidents and national legislatures, but nonetheless, carried out an unprecendented lobbying and publicity campaign with little more than 7 volunteer colleagues and a fax machine which eventually attracted the support of 1000 organizations in over 60 countries-that citizen's initiative convinced 150 nations to renounce landmines, destroy current stocks and prevent future manufacture of this weapon. Jodi Williams won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997. If you have a proven record that would give us the confidence that you will succeed in carrying out this mission and you presently live in NYC, e-mail or fax your resume along with a letter of why you should be the candidate of choice to J. Tucker at JTElmdairy@aol.com or to 718-297-6385.
  8. One of the primary questions in the lawsuit filed by Bush and Cheney was whether "standardless manual recounts violate the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Constitution?" The argument, aside from what constitutes a "standard" (the argument that the FL SC ruling essentially set election law) was that harm was done to Bush and Cheney and that the ruling would cause them harm therefore. You can read all about it at www.oyez.org or of course go to the SCOTUS itself.
  9. Actually those are Slinkys, not bedsprings. Neither meet milspec though.
  10. What's funny about this is that they were able to identify each voter associated with the ballots in question - their names were published in the paper! And these people were of course contacted by the press and were livid that because a computer said their signatures weren't on file, their votes were set aside! And it's also interesting - and pleasing - that the Republican Secretary of State joined the lawsuit and has been quoted as saying that all valid votes should be counted, period. One does not often see such nonpartisanship. And of course the quote in red about "harm"? That was the basis for Bush v. Gore, that counting the votes would harm Bush.
  11. Count those votes I guess Bush v. Gore was not considered applicable case law. First, newly-discovered votes WERE counted by elections boards in other counties in WA; and many of them were for the GOP candidate (and not challenged by the Dems); Second, these votes not illegal or flawed, they were set aside because a computer error said they might be invalid and thus were never inspected - not opened or looked at. For people who freak out over hand recounts, think of it this way. You get your bank statement and you're missing $5,000. You gonna call the automated teller and leave a message? You gonna send an email? Of course not. You want a human being to get on the phone with you and look at your account and figure out what happened. Which is the same premise behind the manual recount. I don't know how it's going to go, no-one does. Currently WITHOUT those votes the Dem is winning by 8 votes. She has stated that she'll be bound by the results of the recount no matter how it comes out. It could well be that these vote tip in the GOP favor. We shall see. But at least we shall know for sure who won, whether or not we like it. And here's a little more from the PI: "Harry Korrell, a lawyer for the Republican Party, countered that state law does not grant King County the right to add new ballots to the recount seven weeks after the election. Korrell said counting those votes would cause irreparable harm, but justices questioned who would be hurt. "You're looking at it from the point of view of the winner or the loser - shouldn't we be looking at it from the point of view of the voter?" asked Justice Susan Owens. The lawsuit was brought by King County, the state Democratic Party and the office of Secretary of State Sam Reed, a Republican."
  12. The "Christ" went out of Christmas long ago when the day turned from being an observation of the birth of Jesus Christ to a season of greed and occasional good spirit which doesn't come near making up for the horrible things people do to each other the other 364 days. So who gives a rat's ass what it's called? "Happy Holidays" is probably more appropriate to the reality of the season than "Merry Christmas". Funny that we see the Christian Coalition freaking out about the NAME but not the SUBSTANCE. But not surprising, most of this "family values" stuff is all lip service anyway.
  13. Maybe Art Shell wants to coach again? I am not an owner, more's the pity, but if I was I'd want the guy who could make my team a winner. Saban has the credentials, but if the chemistry ain't there it doesn't matter. Look at Jimmy Johnson and the Fish. On paper JJ was a "great" coach but he couldn't deal with the patented miami nosedive that started annually around October 20. Since so many of the players (at least from what I see) appear to be black, I would imagine that if those players want to coach after they retire, we'll see a lot of black coaches. They may not be any more qualified that the white guys - in which case then I guess you could say equality has been realized. There's so much around coaching that has little to do with the coach's knowledge or experience and everything to do with his ability to inspire confidence, recognize his weaknesses and select assistants that have strengths where he does not. Or "she" for that matter. Maybe a retired Dallas Diamond player will end up on an NFL staff someday. Why not?
  14. Headline on page A12 of today's Post-Intelligencer: "President says violence will not deter him from Iraq". This during yesterday's press conference. Deter HIM?! Hey, he's on his way to Camp David and then Crawford to enjoy the holidays, while OUR soldiers are sitting ducks in a mess tent. Isn't he going to go serve them another plastic turkey at least? What an hypocritical, lying ass. May he rot in hell for the families who have been devastated, and are about to be torn to their very souls this Christmas, for starting a war without reason, or end.
  15. So the Pentagon has a core competence at holding meetings discussing weighty subjects. If there's so much in the world out there to deal with, perhaps starting a war NEEDLESSLY was not the brightest idea. How often do they check the water coolers for LSD?
  16. Yeah if he did he would be a lemming, which is his favorite insulting appelation for everyone else. But you know he really DOES like Kool-Aid, a lot.
  17. That's what I call Compassionate Conservatism. They're just ambassadors for their cause are they not?
  18. So what should we invest in if not our human resource? Bombs? Roads? Other utilitarian "things" that are really just tools for the people? Uncontrolled spending on ANYTHING will lead to ruin. The question is why do people always get the short end of the stick? The job of the government is to protect the people and to provide for the common good. It's a pretty standard practice in the corporate world to recognize, nurture and grow the skills and knowledge of its workers, and to the extent possible invest in their well-being, because that makes for a better worker and a more competitive company. Balancing the needs of the workers against the IT guy's desire for the latest whizbang technology is commonplace and usually a balance is struck, often with the human need winning out because the human capacity for creativeness and survival beats out an inanimate object any day. The same philosphy applies elsewhere. And of course this Administration has bragged that it's run like a business, but if that's the case it's more of the Gordon Gecko business philosophy than most I've seen, studied or worked under.
  19. Well getting back to the subject of TX schools - my daughter's school campus would have been the envy of a community college and whereas teachers did double-duty in many areas and relied on external fundraising and classroom volunteers the football and baseball teams lacked for nothing. It's those old priorities again. And speaking of values, this just in from another purported bastion of moral Christian values: Stealing School People
  20. Oh don't be touchy, "fat, dumb and happy" is an expression. I merely meant that if a defense company needs more money to build some lovely lethal technology, the government will find a way to get it. Too bad schooling is not such a priority. And there's nothing wrong with raising the bar on education, but one has to provide the support needed. Cutting the funding on schools that can't comply punishes no-one but the children. If someone told one of us we had to, for example, double our output for no additional salary or other support and that if we failed to do so we'd lose our computer or get our pay cut .... we'd think that unfair too. We'd probably be fine with doubling our output if we got a faster computer or an assistant or something like that... I guess if we have enough bombs and stuff to scare off "evildoers" it doesn't matter if our kids can't compete in the world arena, until those other smarter and better-educated kids build some technology that kicks our ass.
  21. Clearly this valiant young man wasn't taught that the use of the term "we" by those such as the Bushes (and the Windsors) merely refers to their real, or imagined, royal status. One certainly does not expect contemporary royalty to sully their hands, does one?
  22. So, the famous "No Child Left Behind" Act, patterned on the TX system that was supposed to be such a huge success (ha) turns out to be nothing more than the usual emty Bushspeak. Turns out that some of the schools may have cheated to inflate their scores. Tsk tsk. Well, those of you who like to search back on my posts will find at least one, and probably more, that discuss how the schools in TX look "good" because the bar is lowered and that students who go to those schools are invariably behind when they get out of TX. I'll bet TX isn't the only state. I guess when you receive edicts to meet standards but no funding to do so, and the alternative is to lose more funding if you can't comply, you get desperate. I don't condone it. However I wish we treated our schools as well as, say, our defense contractors and such. Those folks are fat, dumb and happy while are kids are just going to fat and dumb. story
  23. It is rather droll most of that the "miltary" who are weighing in here are not in the military any more. They just hang on to those old days and play around on the fringes, so much "in the know" that they have to come here to throw their weight around. Never see them quoted in the paper, never see them parachute in to save the day, never see them do anything much but try to lambaste people who dare to express an opinion in an area in which THEY feel they have SOLE posession. "Glory days....pass you by, glory days!" Sad hangers-on, wannabes or never-wases...whatever. I still say, there's something funny to this whole case and wonder what it is. You all wanna defend Rummy's governance? Go right ahead. Prove your blind, bigoted stupidity. He's already proven he's an ignorant !@#$.
  24. Didn't Osama bin Laden get this "award" not too long ago? All it means is that the person's had an impact. Can't deny that.
  25. I know that and you know that but still and all he was a Republican and they like to use him to try to get the descendants of former slaves to vote for them.
