Job Opportunity in Seattle - Dir, Prod. Mktg
blzrul replied to blzrul's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Come on out Bill, but you'll have to bring your Xanax to survive all the liberalism. It even cracks me up sometime. Case in point: last week the Tall Ships came through. The bridge raised, and got stuck. So they went to work on the bridge only to notice that a couple of endangered falcons were temporarily nesting there. So the bridge stayed up all week until the falcons flew away yesterday. Now the bridge is closed. I guess all's well that ends well, but that ranks right up there with the Indians v. Scientists last year trying to capture the orphaned orca. The Indians think it's their dead chief and the scientists want to reunite it with its pod. I think they've both given up. Anyway, the money is good so you could buy LOTS of Xanax...and Canada's only an hour away so you can get it cheap. -

If I were that rich I'd have purchased TBD and ground you all into fairy dust. Alas this job is NOT with Microsoft, a/k/a The Evil Empire. -
Well the Boy Scouts would not let my son join because of his diabetes. I guess I could have sued and won but why bother. To hell I pitch them all.

Don't mind the ugly American, he didn't mean anything by it and I'm sure he will be a man and apologize. Our prayers go out to you and yours at this time. It appears as if the terrorists picked a fight with the wrong guys this time. The term "British bulldog" pops into my mind and I have an idea that the backlash they expected from us after 9/11 is going to hit them hard this time. Go get 'em!

Surely you are aware of Operation Yellow Elephant? Don't tell me that once again I have the jump on you? You'll be hearing a lot more about it in the future, I assure you.

Terrorism takes center stage again
blzrul replied to Rich in Ohio's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I can't help but thinking how stupid these terrorists are, to think that the British people, who have withstood through history numerous wars, invasions and other devastating events - so bravely and resiliantly - will be in any way weakened by these cowardly bombings. If not for the casualties one would want to laugh - these morons have seriously underestimated their enemy this time. Hardship only makes them tougher - I sure wouldn't mess with the Brits, setting sun or no. My prayers go out to our British brethren, particularly the families of the lost and injured. -
He could have just said no to the nomination. I squirmed in agony for the poor man. To many people who didn't know much about him or his background (probably most Americans) he became a joke. He deserved better. Another reason to just say no.

Well there was no way they'd give it to NY. Bejing will get them before NY does.

Agreed but for one thing: The principle of it. I realize "politics" and "principles" don't mix, but the sheer viciousness of outing someone who'd by all accounts served her country well, because one takes exception to the spouse's politics, smells to high heaven. I thought Nixon was bad but he's starting to look real good compared to these slimeballs.

Because they can never promise a "confidential source" confidentiality any more. Which in the long run will make it harder for them. Let's just consider what it takes to dig up and corraborate facts on these sorts of things (unless you're a Bushista, then you don't worry about facts, soundbites, slogans and the like are enough but everyone else MUST have ironclad proof with at least 57 eye witnesses....but I digress....) Of course they knew it would become contempt of court. Actually at this time though the one guy would only serve about 4 months because that's all that's left to run on the grand jury's session. But still.... Time Magazine's turning over the notes now means that no Time reporter can ever promise confidentiality either.

Bush calls for toning down of rhetoric
blzrul replied to EC-Bills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Sure he's alway's calling for toning down whilst his attack dogs do the dirty work for him. I'd go for a winner-take-all slugfest in the parking lot, it's better than all the weasel-words and will actually accomplish something. -
Rove's not an elected official...not approved by Congress....and unless Bush fires him he'll stick to his usual "up yours, what's it to you" modus operendi. Unless he's charged with treason of course.

Rummy says insurgency could last decade
blzrul replied to Reuben Gant's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
All of the insurgents are not Sunnis. There was actually a good deal of discussion in the media about the fact that the insurgency appeared to be going to some lengths to blame their attacks on the Sunnis, hoping to spark more widespread violence and a civil war. That was about six weeks ago. I guess you are the only one who believes that all the insurgent groups, each and every one, is comprised of Sunnies. And you are also an arrogant prick. -
(OT) Are we Americans spoiled and lazy?
blzrul replied to Tolstoy's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
funny the same thought popped into my head. And we are lazy and I am scared. One thing we've ALWAYS had is technological innovation but given the lousy state of our schools, spiralling college costs rendering them inaccessible to many, and the apparent lack of interest by our government in science (unless you count going to Mars), we may not have that to buoy us. -

I'm well aware of the Silly Sunnis, who boycotted the vote and then got po'd that they're under-represented. I said INSURGENTS not SUNNIS. -
Rummy says insurgency could last decade
blzrul replied to Reuben Gant's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
And while I'm at it, I heard a report on the news this morning that "we" and the Iraqi "government" have met with the insurgents. True? I thought we didn't negotiate with terrorists? Or are "insurgents" who use terroristic tactics not "terrorists" unless they specifically make that claim? They're certainly terrorizing people... So why would we negotiate with terrorists? And if we are, why these terrorists and not other terrorists? -

And when he issues that statement he'll be standing in 14 feet of snow with the temperature reading -80F. -
When the gubmint comes to steal your land and turn it over to some rich developer you simply have to hold your press conference outside the courthouse, point out "thou shalt not steal".

Demographics and Real Estate Value
blzrul replied to Bill from NYC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I know - I was agreeing with you. I can pay 475,000 for an acre in the San Juans up here or....I could pay the same and get a nice house in a lake in WNY and probably bank about 150k. Weather doesn't bother me. We have three requirements: skiing, football and reasonably skilled healthcare providers/facilities. WNY has all of those. My mom lives on much less than 100k a year and owns her own home. Granted she doesn't take the Grand Tour on an annual basis, but she could. -
Given that you're so busy then I marvel that you have time to do the research needed to cast an intelligent vote. So that means you DON'T know your state and local laws. I guess it's just easier to rend your garments and assume the worst. I am glad that the colonists weren't too busy with their families. And what about all those soldiers in Iraq and Afganistan? Don't they have families? Marriages? Homes? I guess THEY don't count, you're the only one that matters. "When the people lead, the leaders follow". What happens when the people don't lead? Look around. OK, resume rending.
-
I wonder if anyone here besides me has looked up their state laws around this? Maybe that's why everyone's scared and I am not. I guess it makes more sense to rail about it....I think you'll find it's a tempest in a teacup. The government could ALWAYS take your property. Even without this ruling, if the government was determined enough, no matter how tenuous the reason, it could happen. The little guy is powerless. This ruling changes NOTHING unless you live in an area with whose laws give total deference to federal law, or where you have a whole bunch of corrupt politicians. This reminds me of the duct-tape-and-plastic panic. My goodness. grow spines.
-
So where is the Republican party outrage over this ruling if it's a "liberal versus conservative" thing? I imagine they're licking their chops. Sometimes the Supreme Court's rulings are not popular...but remember they don't make law, they intepret it. The only advice I ever got was to "get over it". I guess that's the same here if you're not willing to deal with it at the state level...you can B word, whine and continue to rend your garments. This isn't great but it's NOT the worst decision the SCOTUS ever made, not by a long shot.
