Naturally he attacks instead of discusses. No-one wants to take away your guns AD. If all gun owners were responsible and conscientious as you must be, there would be no issues. Which family value is it though that says it's ok to leave a loaded, unlocked gun around for a kid to kill his friend with during playtime? I guess in your mind it's just A-OK and it's what the parents deserve for being careless. I don't give a rat's ass about the parents. I'm talking about the kids. And yeah, maybe it doesn't happen very often. But when it happens to someone you know or love, it's once too many. Come on, let's see some of that compassion!
-
I don't think that outlawing guns is necessary. Good thing because it's impossible. But I do think that if you have to take written AND practical exams to get a driver's license, it's not too much to expect that you submit to a brief waiting period during which a background check is conducted in order to obtain a gun permit. And I think that keeping loaded guns in a house with children isn't a great idea - that guns in households with children must have some sort of lock on them. Unfortunately since there are morons out there who don't consider this there should be some sort of mandate, like with a penalty, around having those locks. I suppose having your kid die from playing with a loaded gun is a penalty, but that's a little too stiff for me. Perhaps something a little milder would be better.

No Wonder GOP Doesn't Want Votes Counted
blzrul replied to blzrul's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
First off it's not my fault that you can neither understand nor will you try. Considering that I work in communications, where people have no trouble at all understanding me, it's kind of funny that only people who don't like my politics can't understand. So if it's beyond you, give up. And regarding your personal attack about how you'd hate to have me for a mother - don't worry, if you were my kid I'd have had an abortion. -

Because he can't beat be me a verbal duel so he resorts to personal attacks. The all do, including our beloved Moderator. It doesn't bother me, only makes them look like teeny, tiny, pathetic little people. I bet they're fuming at what they perceive to be Howard Dean's personal attacks on the GOP, but they're no better. -
No Wonder GOP Doesn't Want Votes Counted
blzrul replied to blzrul's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, actually you are as usual misinformed. Just like in floriDUH, the LAW states that an automatic recount take place. They did the first recount, which dropped the margin of victory, thus triggering the second recount. The HAND recount is also covered under the law, again only available if the margin is small enough AND the PARTY REQUESTING THE RECOUNT PONY UP THE $$$$$ TO DO IT. There was an option to ONLY recount CERTAIN areas, but Governor Gregoire told the party that unless ALL votes were counted statewide, she'd concede, because she didn't want to base a victory on only counting in heavily-Democratic areas. And because the hand recount found that she'd indeed won, the State ended up having to foot the bill. So chalk one up for the good guys. And get over it -
No Wonder GOP Doesn't Want Votes Counted

Bingo, you are correct. I am surprised that this group which prides itself on being so well-informed wasn't aware that this was going on. Closest guv. race ever and all. I got the figures right out of the judge's ruling but you could find it on the web, probably seattlepi.com. Basically the GOP tried to get a "revote" on the basis of fraud which is the only reason here to overturn an election. They showed up with lists of felons who voted in Dem districts...Dems showed up with a felons who voted in GOP districts, the judge tossed them because who can tell who they voted for? The GOP trotted out the cases of people who voted on behalf of dead people - those folks were examined and, woe to the GOP, those votes went for their guy (and the Libertarian). Since the judge could PROVE those, he subtracted them from the GOP count giving 4 more to the Dem. -
Surprising silence on the board for the closest gubernatorial race in the history of the United States. The GOP brought in their big guns, their statistical experts and their theory of "fraud" that naturally focused only on one area of the state and not on other areas where their guy did ok... Which resulted in nothing except the Court finding four MORE votes for the Democratic victor when it was discovered that of the handful of votes that could be proven fraudulent....4 for for the Repub and 1 for the Libertarian. How sweet it is. Small surprise that this morning when traffic was snarled due to a distraught man sitting on the 148th Street bridge I immediately thought of poor Dino Rossi, who can now go on the speaking circuit whining about the unfairness of it all. Apparently he never heard that one is supposed to just "get over it."

Well pore ole Governer Goodhair's desperate don't you see. Kay Bailey Witch is going to send him packing.

Grades aren't the sole measure of intelligence. I was so bored in high school that I cut classes for weeks and graduated with a 70 average...and a National Merit Scholarship. There are plenty of people with average intellect who can go far with a lot of hard work. There are plenty of genuises that go nowhere.

12,000 Iraqi civilians killed in past 18 months

If you look back at history, it seems that the British empire's descent began when the ground rules changed. At the time when controlling the seas meant so much, the British were well nigh unbeatable. But then came the American Revolution. Much has been said about the colonists hiding behind trees whilst the Brits marched in formation in bright red coats...but even before that (until the French entered on the colonists' side) the Brits were doomed simply because the war was on land. The colonies had "militias", but no naval capability to speak of at the beginning. So all the Brits' ships and naval expertise meant little. Fast forward to now. "Terrorism". The US military might is based on the ability to intimidate the hell out of people with our superior weaponry, and if necessary making good on the threat. But the terrorists, like the colonists, don't play by those rules. I remember an exterminator telling me once: if you see a cockroach in your house, remember this - that there are millions more in the walls, because they don't come out until it gets too crowded in there. Same thing with terrorists. You may see a handful but the rest are hidding, massing, mutating, and multiplying. Applying the US military approach would be akin blowing the house to kingdom come to get rid of the cockroaches. Any exterminator will tell you that just means the roaches go next door. You'll kill some, but enough will live to go elsewhere and colonize. And pesticides are likewise temporary, because the little beasts develop immunity and mutate... People can bluster, bomb, threaten tear your hair out, but it just MAY be there there are other ways to snuff out terror at its roots. Military might is going to be part of it. But conducting wars on other people's turfs - blowing the house to kingdom come - will just create more, and like roaches they'll adjust their tactics and continue to grow in number and strength. -

Since when did we Americans become such a lot of COWARDS that we're perfectly willing to sit back home, eat pizza and worry about Paris Hilton while our young people are dying on foreign soil...along with a whole lot of other innocent people who wish THEY could sit around eating pizza and thinking about nothing in particular. During WWI and WWII even people who couldn't fight sacrificed. Then we learned to fight Commies in other people's countries and we liked it just fine. Let those slanty-eyed people die, life's cheap over there right? So we've just shifted the theatre a little bit to kill other people who aren't like us. One attack on our own soil and we freak out, hiding behind plastic and duct tape. Some "home of the brave". If we all believed so much that we were really in peril, and under constant threat, and fighting for our lives, we wouldn't let it happen. But the fact is that as long as most Americans don't have to exert themselves, it's just A-OK to let someone else do it for us. As the Romans about that. OH we can't, can we, because they're gone. Oops. We're making enemies faster than we can kill them. -
Gosh, could Amnesty International be biased??
blzrul replied to SilverNRed's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I cite Fox News? I guess if referring to Fox News as a big joke, I do cite it. (Which doesn't say much for the people who actually watch it.) But you WON'T see me citing Fox News as crap one minute, and then using it as a reliable source the next. It's just crap, period, always and forever. But it's not quite the same ignoring human rights violations in one place because the source is "absurd" and in others claiming the source is spot on, when it's the same source. Like saying "we would NEVER torture anyone" and then five minutes later saying "well war is hell, get over it." Stupid chickenshits, if they think that torture is the right thing to do they should have the COJONES to stand up for their beliefs. -

I'm so glad you're perfect and never made a misstatement. Tell me this Oh Great One, if AI is so flawed why does the US cite their findings when it suits us, like when we want to ding other countries for their human rights failings? Hmmmmm? Ahhh the hypocrisy. This is the place to come for a big fat dose of it. -

My bad, you are correct. Easy mistake to make in this crowd, they start with "A" and are reviled. -

I betcha Rush Limbaugh would take issue with that. They are still trying to save his fat ass from the humiliation of having his medical records released...in spite of the fact that he's a big fat idiot. If preserving civil liberties is a bad thing, we're in a little more trouble than I thought. -

Actually KFC has raised a mild ruckus in the UK with its disgusting commercial showing people talking with their mouths full. How gross. That says something about their target market I suppose. -
I hear ya. Like every time I hear some yahoo say "Mos-COW" I remember Walter Cronkite admonition that "there is NO "cow" in Moscow". It is, of course, pronounced Mos-coe. Yeah, he's not the brightest bulb in the pack, no doubt about THAT. The sad part is there are probably a large number of 'Murkins who heard it and thought "wow! he's got a great vocabulary! I never knew that! Maw! Turn down the tee-vee and listen to this..."

Is W. Mark Felt a "Hero" or "Traitor" ?
blzrul replied to OnTheRocks's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
They're airing interviews with some of the guys convicted over Watergate. One of them (not MacGruder) said that while he didn't view him as a hero, or a traitor, he thinks that he is a man of character. Coulson (sp), I believe it was. -

Yeah and besides as Bush said just today those people they interviewed are just "dis-assemblers".

And you are correct. They are both from Texas. My poor husband had the hots for Angie really bad, and it just about killed him when she married Jason Sehorn (because he played for the Giants) and they both moved back to Dallas. So close...but so far...every now and then I like to torture him with that.
-
Now now now, you shouldn't be picking on the guy. It's not his fault he sustained all that brain damage from huffing insecticides all those years.... Given the bugmen I had to deal with during 10 years in Dallas, DeLay is not that unusual. Law and Order habitually goes after wingnuts so why the fuss. In particular a continual butt of their jokes is the state of Texas. That's been going on at least as far back as Angie Harmon...perhaps because she's from Texas...
