  1. Oh yeah I do. But. This is a 5-year old. I defy any parent on here to come out and say "oh sure I'd be ok with my 5-year old being bent over a table and handcuffed"...and mean it. Even you'd have to think twice. There are a million ways to handle a temper tantrum but this probably a tad extreme. They removed the story. I wonder why. The video's out there somewhere I'm sure.
  2. give me a break We're not talking a deranged mental patient but a freaking brat. Yes, said brat was wrong to kick the assistant principal and she probably needs some help but three cops bending her over and handcuffing her?
  3. You were clear - Marty needs people to ship packages TO, who can distribute them to soldiers in need. The armed forces won't accept anything that's not addressed to a real person.
  4. Diane, Marty's always looking for in-country volunteers to ship packages to as well, so if your son and his friends are interested I'm sure it would be appreciated. At one point last year he was down to about 2 people and it was getting scary. I think he's got a good process now but with 100k+ folks there I am sure there is always room for more.
  5. It seems like there's no shortage of sickos to step right up and take over when one's been taken out of commission.
  6. Wonder what makes the UN so important that Bush bothers to have an Ambassador? Why isn't he just telling them all to fold their tent and go home?
  7. So who's up on Nostradamus? My kid came home from school yesterday and told me the kids there were saying that Ratzy's ascension to the papcy was predicted, and it was predicted as a predecessor to Armegeddon which is supposed to take place 5-6 years into his papacy. Seriously, I'm asking. I gave up on him after he blew the big CA earthquake thing back in the late 80's.
  8. It seems to me that the states these things have been occuring in lately HAVE the death penalty. It doesn't seem to have deterred them.
  9. To err is human, to forgive divine. She has apologized, explained, and apologized again. She has called it the biggest mistake of her life. She was young, and stupid, she admitted it and she can't undo it. Her intentions were good, her actions misguided. If people can't forgive her they must lead mean, needy and narrow little lives, and I'd pity them if I could bring myself to give them a second thought. Real men forgive and move on. In the grand scheme of things JFK, LBJ and Richard Nixon caused a lot more death than Jane Fonda.
  10. Congratulations on having the veil lifted from your eyes. Martha Stewart has served her sentence and Kenny Boy Lay is still roaming around a free man after 4 years...what's with that? You're looking at a good old boys club in which very few Americans are allowed to participate. If it were just a club that would be ok, but it's the government of this country - which is supposed to be BY us, FOR us. We got lazy and turned it over to people who can't be trusted to care about anyone but their own kind.
  11. I don't know, I thought perhaps they were serious. I think scientists would consider it a high honor to be immortalized that way. Dung beetles may have been more appropriate, but I guess you just discover them as they come along.
  12. Story This will ensure Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld live on forever through their namesakes, who after all will probably be here long after humans have become extinct. It's a pretty nice thing to do considering this administration is not really too supportive of science in general.
  13. The other thing to remember is Hero Miles to help get them the last leg home. A couple of airlines have dropped out (I'll be boycotting those) but you can still donate miles. Without that many of these guys have to pay their own way home and it can get a little pricey. It's not like they have hours to spend surfing the net for good fares.
  14. Yeah and he'll get away with it because most people don't live near the borders and think it's a GREAT idea. The last time my husband and I came back for a Bills game we stayed in Canada - it took us 3 hours to get across the border...and the Canadians were much more stringent than the Americans. Shoot, they check cars boarding the ferries here much more stringently, and those are the plain old commuter ferries around the Sound, NOT to BC. Of course there are terrorists already living in the Sea-Tac area and have been here for years. Good thing that Customs Agent chased that guy down in 1999 trying to sneak in and blow up the Space Needle ... he's finally talking. She deserves a medal for smelling a rat and not giving up.
  15. Well, I don't often agree with what the morons choose to spend my money on. On the other hand, I think of it this way: paving a road, for example, can cost $150 a linear foot to much, much more. Given that cost, if I can to build and pay for my own road, it would take a lifetime and I'd be lucky to get as far as Tacoma. Of course why one would WANT to go to Tacoma is something else. Maybe Bellingham, but definitely not Idaho. In any event, the point is that there are fixtures and services that most of us use and when you look at paying $30,000 a year (or whatever) in taxes, considering all you get it's really not a bad bargain.
  16. <<Well, according to the Bible, it IS a sin! But, it is not the only sin enumerated in 1 Corinthians 6 for example. BUT, maybe more importantly, this text points out that we should leave up to the "godly" to do the judging.>> Which begs the question of "who is godly". The self-annointed godly who presume to judge are not infrequently immoral or amoral themselves.
  17. Where in the world would one get such a thing and prove that it's real? Idiots will buy anything. Look at that grilled cheese sandwich with the Madonna face. If it's real, the shame is on the person who sold it I guess. But to some extent there's been a whole cottage industry around the Pope's sudden popularity (yeah he was popular alive but NOTHING like he is now that he's gone) so why single out one mercenary moron? How about all the media outlets who did a play-by-play on his dying and dissected his funeral preparations and are now busily doing their succession speculation. Tune it out. Here, you can choose the "ignore user" option - the concept applies elsewhere.
  18. more detail So what's the news here? It's certainly no news that a Bush nominee is a swaggering bully.
  19. The power I wield around here is amazing. I accept the tribute you pay me by worrying about what I'd say and preparing your talking points in case I said X, Y or Z. I'd personally wait for more information from a source closer to home if I cared in the first place. It does seem, after all, that when this same pub carries stories that run counter to the conservative view, it's panned, so one must not place too much credence in one report. However I had heard elsewhere that there was an issue with the treatment of a subordinate who was essentially the bearer of bad - or "unacceptable" tidings. The story I heard on NPR revolved around an ANALYST, not an operative in the field. If it's CIA policy that no employee ever is allowed to be identified as such then this is an issue. Currently it's a diversion. Kerry IS stupid though for believing what he heard given how crappy our entire intelligence network is, according to the Bush Administration. I mean, the poor Bush Administration invaded a country based on crappy intelligence - according to them and the reports they've commissioned. So, Kerry should have known better than to listen to anyone who works at the CIA. And Lugar is of course a Republican, thereby validating the earlier assertion that politicians are grandstanding buttheads. But then again so are many of you on this board. The Oracle has spoken. You may now all carry on
  20. Whoops musta been a typo. I meant Repugs....no, Rethugs....hmmm I guess I need a Funk & Wagnall to get the proper spelling. I don't see anyone taking exception to "Dummycrats" or "Libertards"... Could it really be true what they say that cons have no sense of humor? I know YOU do Bill, so maybe it's something else? You're not one of them. They know who they are.
  21. Oh I would hazard I guess that he'll stop about the same time the GOP in the State of Washington quit whining about losing the governer's race and drop their stupid lawsuit. OH silly me, that's right, when it happens to the Dems "they lost, shut up and stop whining" but when it happens to the Repigs it's "where there's smoke, there's fire, so run to the courts, quick!". Puhlease.
  22. You're missing the best part, and that's how it got out. If you believe it, the memo was handed over without even knowing what it contained. That being the case we should all be happy it wasn't a memo with some super top-secret information handed off to a member of the press, a janitor or some evil-doer disguised as an upstanding citizen. Talk about taking dumb to a whole new level...
  23. The funny thing about that is in states where it gets hotter sooner, and stays hotter longer, it could mean you run the AC more.
  24. Is that so? So when one makes two declarative statements, the second statement is always a conclusion based on the first statement? Wow. Or perhaps you were thinking I should have said "pathological liar"...and when I didn't it confused you? I stand humbled and bemused by either your superior intellect or your inability to think out of the box...whatever floats your boat.
  25. TIVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
