Remember, man, that you are dust, and unto dust you shall return. (as if you'd forget). I guess what we all argue and fight over is HOW we return to dust. But in the end it makes not one iota of difference.

That's damn right. Fight 'em over there. Those guys enlisted for their own reasons and gambled that they'd get want they wanted, and live to enjoy it. I'm sorry for their families and the dimwits around here who really truly think that these guys' deaths are necessary. Or that they'll make a difference. Because only a dimwit still thinks that military action can win this mission. And no-one's afraid of America any more. They've seen how easily we scare.

I beg to differ it's quite simple to keep up with the moral standards set by the right: 1) for them - low 2) for everyone else - off the chart high And if you don't like it, it's probably because you hate America.

I say skip GPS and go straight to castration
blzrul replied to taterhill's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Not if it's chemical castration because that can be "undone". -

Military, yes, but I don't think we're talking about that here. And yes, whip out that Magellan and then go into a tunnel. Tell me what you see. Or a basement. Or WAY out in the middle of nowhere. There are two parts to GPS - identifying the location AND successfully relaying it back to the centralized location accurately, and in a timely fashion. Geofencing is probably the best use of GPS for pedophiles with the geofence being pretty restrictive. I should mention that I manage an offer which has hundreds of thousands of people and vehicles being tracked with GPS (including government) and I would never use the term "exact" relative to location, or for that matter "real time" with regard to the reporting of location. Because in even enterprise-grade offers it isn't there. -

Really. Do tell. Even when it's used with LEO/GEO as well, the signal is lost quite a bit in basements, tunnels, cities, etc. The location may be transmitted but it may not be real-time, e.g. the location transmitted is not where the person is. A-GPS is a little more precise but "exactly" is a stretch. -

uhhh well it may work for some people but rape is a crime of violence, not sex. The people are rapists who happen to prefer children. There are still plenty of ways in which they could exploit kids. GPS technology is getting better to the point where it's going to be possible pretty soon to pinpoint someone's exact location. Today it's within a range and varies depending on where you are ...better than using cell tower triangulation but still not foolproof. However with today's GPS and geofencing an alarm will sound when an offence leaves the boundaries set for him. Assuming that someone is actually paying attention, it could be effective. It would probably be more effective than castration because it would send an alert before anything could happen, -
And of course the guy went to the Senate without comment and since he couldn't even get a hearing on the floor before his appointment ... that's a real endorsement which will enhance his stature in his new job.

Who pushed to have "embedded journalists" in Iraqistan? I suppose they thought they'd get some great propoganda out of it, and they did, but eventually at least one of them might have to report something that cast an unflattering light on war. And embedded jouirnalists did harm as we all know, reporting on their unit's location and activities, but no-one's freaked about that because who's to blame? The morons who thought it was such a great idea to embed those people in the first place. Oh and don't lose sleep over people dying in the Middle East. At least it's all taking place over there and not on Main Street USA. That's all we care about anyway. "Fight 'em over there so we don't have to fight 'em here". I am told that's replacing the last line of our anthem, instead of "home of the brave".

It's been speculated all along that Bush would do this as he's done before, no surprise. And yes, Bolton is JUST what the UN needs. Turns out he lied on the questionnaire he completed in conjunction with his nomination. So if Anan is a lying scoundrel, well, then he'll be quite happy with Bolton since they're cut from the same cloth.

So when whatsisface interviewed Saddam Hussein years ago were you all as upset? On the Evildoer Meter he's probably far worse than this guy. Dust in the wind...100 years from now what will it all matter. 1000 years from now they'll teach about America in schools much the same as we learned about Greece and Rome and kids will wonder "how'd they manage to blow it?"

By the way if you go back a few weeks and listen to administration speeches you'll notice that the "war on terror" has now morphed into something like "action against groups who use terroristic tactics" or some such descriptive phrase. I wonder is that because it is quite possible to lose a "war" but not so much a nebulous "campaign" or "project" or whatever it is...? I'll see if I can find it, Rummy hisself has been using it lately but I would never want to mis-quote him.

Did Bill Frist just throw his hat in the'08 Ring?
blzrul replied to OnTheRocks's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
If it wasn't for research and scientific breakthrough, America wouldn't be the country it is today. We've always been a leading innovator, because our freedoms allow us the luxury of exploration, leading to breakthroughs and attracting smart people from other countries to our side. If all research was privately conducted the technologies would be proprietary, and expensive, until competition forced down the cost and price. Federal funding of research can make it accessible to multiple companies, shortening the timeline to competition and making the benefits available to more people. But to get back to the thread, either Frist or a family member has been diagnosed with a disease that would possibly benefit from treatments derived from stem cells, or he's pandering. -
Iran body seeks suicide 'martyrs'

I heard part of an interesting article on NPR this morning from a gentleman in the Middle East who's been monitoring the Islamic reaction to terror over a period of time. Here's the link -
So the shuttle takes off, and more foam falls off. This, after the launch was postponed for a faulty sensor, the cause of which couldn't be determined and led NASA to "waive" the safety process as relates to the sensor. Then NASA, in its infinite genius, with astronauts still in space who presumably have family and friends on the ground who can't help but worry, announces that it's going to suspect future launches until they can figure out the foam thing. (It has not yet been determined whether the foam actually caused any damage to the shuttle - it's thought not, but the crew has yet to inspect.) I agree with NASA's move to suspend, but given what happened last time couldn't they have waited to make the announcement until this crew is, God willing, safely landed on Earth? The astronauts are pros who accept the risks, but for the families who can only wait and worry, why cause them more angst? I suspect it was a move to head off bad press, but I thought it was pretty damned insensitive of them.

Didn't Jane Fonda learn her lesson 35 years ago

Personally I think the energy expended on this thread was far and above over what the topic merited. You guys all fell right into the trap. If everyone igores her tour, it goes away. -
Pataki will not run for governor again

Paturkey thinks that because he stood behind Guiliani on 9/11 he can be president, what a joke. There's not much left of the Empire State anymore, nice legacy George. -
We can download recorded books from our library, way cool. I have a 40 gb iPOD and will be able to make quite a dent in in. I love libraries. When I was poor and unemployed it was the best place to go, free books, company, and a feeling of purpose.

I would guess the answer is "no she didn't" which makes her like most people who fail to learn from their mistakes. -

Right wingnuts in America kill people in the name of Christianity - Eric Rudolph comes to mind. So therefore according to PPP CW: 1) all rightwingers are violent and must be immediately detailed and/or killed 2) All Christians are bloodthirsty monsters. Now doesn't that sound stupid? That's because udging one large homgeneous group by the actions of extremists is stupid. -
I work in an office park/mall. I could walk into Macy's tomorrow with a backpack on my back and immolate Macy's and probably most of REI along with hundreds of people inside. The Patriot Act could not stop me. I could load my car with plastique the next time I go to a Mariner's game, stop in the middle of an intersection where hundreds of people are waiting to cross, and push a button. And the Patriot Act couldn't stop me. The terrorist counts on narrow-minded stupidity and inability to think out of the box in order to succeed. The Patriot Act was a knee-jerk reaction to a terror methodology that succeeded in its goal and probably won't ever be seen again. It may have stopped 9/11, it didn't exist. Like a shifting virus, terror groups will change their tactics and we'll always be one step behind. With fewer civil liberties. Pretty soon "our way of life" will be no more, because our liberties will have been eroded away, by our own hands. And when "our way of life" is no more, the terrorists have won. If "our way of life" is so precious, then each and every American citizen should be willing to life that life and, if necessary, die doing it. Hiding behind laws, plastic and duct tape is un-American.

Which is why I don't like the Patriot Act.

Life without parole is probably the only way to keep the nutcases away from our kids. Even if chemical and surgical castration are used, they are no guarantee that the urge that drives the violence goes away. Also, consider the case when an innocent person is convicted. Don't say it doesn't happen, because it does. What was that place in CA years ago where the whole thing resounded of the Salem Witch trials? And, hard though it is to believe, there are female offenders too. Castration is not an option for them.

Attacks on UK will continue, radical cleric says
blzrul replied to sweet baboo's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Ah but did we seek to kill all wingnuts with crewcuts? Particularly those with a military background from Buffalo? Nope. YOU said it. We condemned the PERSON. And the sketch of John Doe looked like my brother-in-law, who's pretty damned Aryan. It would be odd if two white guys like McVeigh & Nichols hooked up with an Arab....awfully odd. Lastly it appears as if the guy they've detained who may have played a part in the 7/7 bombings was actually let go in 2002 by our DOJ. The office in Seattle was going after him but were told to cease and desist....it's in this morning's paper, you can read all about it. What a shame. I thought we were ever-vigilant after 9/11. -
