Dmitri Medvedev, former President of Russia and current Deputy Chair of the Security Council of the Russian Federation dropped a bombshell. Without specifying who, he asserts that "a number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their own nuclear warheads." One presumes that of the countries with nuclear weapons, North Korea would be the obvious one willing to provide Iran with a nuke. However, that is not a "number of countries," and the only other two that could conceivably do so are Russia and China. Currently, only the US, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Israel, and North Korea have nukes. Which of these countries would part with their nukes is an odd question. It's hard to know how serious Medvedev is, or how influential he would be in deciding something of this magnitude. China seems like it would be far too cautious to do so, and it would be a wild decision for Russia to make. Also of interest in this statement is Medvedev's admission that Iran has been pursuing a nuclear weapon already, despite claims to the contrary. The welcoming environment apparently led the left’s revered hero to relax a bit too much, for he let the mask slip and demonstrated once again that what leftists want to do most is use the full force of the federal government to muzzle patriots, so that only the leftist perspective can be heard. {snip} And Obama wants to do more than just shout down the view of those whom he and his fellow leftists fear and hate. He called for active government censorship, saying: How do we train and teach our kids to distinguish between those things, that I think is one of the big tasks of social media. By the way, it will require, I believe, some government regulatory constraints around some of these business models in a way that’s consistent with the First Amendment but that also says, “Look, there is a difference between these platforms letting all voices be heard versus a business model that elevates the most hateful voices, or the most polarizing voices, or the most dangerous in the sense of inciting violence voices.” That I think is going to be a big challenge for all of us that we’re going to have to undertake. So there’s the left’s new plan, which is, predictably, same as the old plan: brand its opponents “hateful” and “polarizing,” and silence them accordingly. WELL, I’M GLAD WE CLEARED ALL THAT UP: Russia Confesses Iran has always claimed that its nuclear program is aimed at civilian uses, not production of nuclear weapons. This is an absurd pretense: Iran has abundant oil resources, and no reason to build nuclear power plants. Do other oil-producing countries, like Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, invest countless billions in atomic energy? Of course not. Nevertheless, the mullahs have stuck doggedly to this excuse. Earlier today, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council and Vladimir Putin’s right-hand man, let the cat out of the bag: “What have the Americans accomplished with their nighttime strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran?” Medvedev questioned in a post on social media. “The enrichment of nuclear material — and, now we can say it outright, the future production of nuclear weapons — will continue. A number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their own nuclear warheads.” Well, there you have it. Good thing we all know better than this guy. I served on the National Security Council under President Clinton. I was Joe Biden’s Deputy Staff Director of the Senate foreign Relations Committee. I voted for Kamala Harris and have been a vocal critic of many dangerous and undemocratic actions taken by President Trump. But I’m not a blind tribalist and am perfectly comfortable praising President Trump for bold and courageous actions in support of America’s core national interests, as he took last night. Iran has been at war with the United States for 46 years. Its regime has murdered thousands of American citizens. Its slogan “death to America“ was not window dressing but core ideology. It was racing toward a nuclear weapon with every intention of using it to threaten America, our allies, and the Middle East region as a whole. No actions like this come without risks, and I imagine the story will get more complicated over time, but that’s why these types of decisions are complicated. Although I believe electing Kamala Harris would have been better for our democracy, society, and economy, as well as for helping the most vulnerable people in the United States and around the world, I also believe VP Harris would not have had the courage or fortitude to take such an essential step as the president took last night.
