Dem Sen. Ed Markey Helpfully Explains Why the Democrats Own the Shutdown The government shutdown continues, and all the while many Democrats are still trying to blame Trump and the Republicans. Naturally they're getting plenty of assistance from the usual suspects in the media: But just occasionally a Democrat will come right out and admit which party is responsible for keeping the shutdown going, and Sen. Ed Markey did that very thing yesterday. Schumer's Shutdown is now in its 38th day, making it the longest government shutdown in history. And from the way Democrats are talking and behaving, they don't plan on opening the government anytime soon. Seems like an odd thing for the party that supposedly cares so much about the little people, don't you think? But when you realize what their end goal really is, it all makes sense because the point is to make Americans suffer. So they'll blame Trump and Republicans since they're 'in charge.' Trump Wins on Passports By John Hinderaker Today the Supreme Court issued an order in Trump v. Orr, the case that challenges Trump’s executive order to the effect that a person’s sex as shown on his or her passport will be the sex at birth. This order was challenged in the federal court in Massachusetts, and a Democratic Party judge issued an injunction barring implementation of the order while the case proceeds through the federal courts. This is the Democrats’ familiar strategy: bring a case before a loyal judge who will, without hearing the case on the merits, issue a preliminary injunction preventing the Trump administration from carrying out the policy in question. The “preliminary” injunction will for all practical purposes be permanent, since by the time the case is finally resolved, Trump most likely will be out of office. Through this means, the Democratic Party has effectively tried to seize control of the Executive Branch. But the Supreme Court is on to them, and the administration has consistently gotten these preliminary injunctions dissolved in the Supreme Court. That is what happened here. The unsigned (as is the case with such orders) majority opinion says: This case concerns an Executive Branch policy requiring all new passports to display an individual’s biological sex at birth. The United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts preliminarily enjoined the Government from enforcing the policy, and the First Circuit declined to stay the injunction pending appeal. The Government then filed this stay application. Applying our familiar stay factors at this preliminary stage, we grant the application. No deal on ending shutdown By Bill Glahn Democrats think they are “winning” the shutdown. As long as they continue to think that, it will continue, into 2026, perhaps into 2029. Yesterday’s offer from Senate leader John Thune (R-SD) has been rejected. From The Hill newspaper, Deal to reopen government falters over Democrats’ distrust of Trump. A “deal” can’t “falter” if there never was a deal. Distrust of Trump? The Hill reports, Democratic support for a potential deal to reopen the government has crumbled because of deep mistrust among Senate Democrats over whether they can trust President Trump to act in good faith to extend health insurance subsidies or to stop firing federal workers. Was there ever any Democratic support? They mistrust/distrust/don’t trust that Trump will meet 100 percent of their demands. Is that Trump’s “fault”? Days ago, the current “shutdown” passed the record to become the longest ever. The now-second-longest shutdown occurred during Trump 1.0 over his request for a border wall. He never got it. The local Minneapolis Star Tribune put out this headline, Democrats consider prolonging the shutdown as Republicans prepare new bills without health care fix How can Democrats “prolong” something for which they are totally without blame?
