Week 4: Texans at Bills

They didn't apologize for giving Houston the ball when the returner caught it and threw it on the ground... -
Week 4: Texans at Bills
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They are playing a 3rd string Quarterback. They tend to second guess things, panic, and hold the ball. All things that will lead to turnovers against buffalo. They don't have the running game to take pressure off of him either. Their defense really doesn't do much of anything particularly well. To me the trap game requires... something. A QB, a RB, a playmaker who is capable of turning a game in your favor. That or just, miserable weather or something. -

Work smarter, not harder 😉. They didn't chip much, the running back pass pro was usually up the middle too. -

Yep - its why NE never had a ton of big sack #'s guys. They preach rush depth so you don't get caught up field like that. -

Not enough interior push.... and sweat on the other side was totally handled. Williams and Allen were in sync just creating lanes for him to escape the pocket all afternoon. When they did muddy it up allen escaped around the edge and made plays. -
Picking up Edmunds Option a Rare Beane Mistake
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall
They gave up 300 yards of offense, and 80 came on a screen. They had 13 first downs, and their worst rushing total of the season. They're currently a top level defense against run and pass. You pick up the option because you don't have a capable in-house replacement. It buys you a year to find one in the draft, if you find that his extension negotation is too rich for your budget. They grabbed several budget mike LBs this offseason in Lee and Adams, and both were cut. I also don't think there's a single player on the defense who thinks - oh we should start AJ Klein. So to me? That's the end of the discussion. People nitpick plays he doesn't make, but ignore plays he does make as "he's supposed to do that". -

2019 bills came out and beat jets giants bengals. Also had some cupcakes in Denver and Washington that year. Just play the schedule you got and ignore the haters. -

Basically holding with the ball in the air, thats always PI. He made some nice plays, but I wasn't super impressed? Then again i have CMC in fantasy so i was watching through an annoyed lens. I did think hubbard looked alright though so that was a silver lining i suppose. -

On the replay he pulled the receivers arms and didn't play the ball. So it probably was PI -
Williams needs to be benched
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to DieHardBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think benching is always a good strategy. Players can improve week to week, technique, film study etc. Motivate someone before u bench them. -
Andy Dalton’s charity picks up steam again
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably. I don't think Fields is it though. At least this year. Are you trying to just let him take lumps and go 6-10 or are you trying to make the playoffs? Not sure Dalton is the answer there either, but I think Dalton's more likely to. -
TE greats of all time
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd think Gonzalez Gronk Kelce Gates Witten I try to avoid tight ends from back in the day - any of these guys would have dominated back then so... on my all time list they all go ahead. I think Sharpe was a great player, but I think I'd rather have gates in the RZ or witten as a blocker. -
OT: Are you concerned about Mac Jones?
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
Watching the jets game? They probably called like 8 plays. Why put anything on film when you can win this game running inzide zone and the same 3 pass plays? The dead last in completed air yards is still... strange. 3 yards? 3 yards!!! -
OT: Are you concerned about Mac Jones?
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
His ADOT of 3 yards is a full 3 yards lower than Big Ben, and 4 lower than Herbert. He's legit throwing the ball an average of 3 yards from the LOS. I didn't even know it was possible to average that over 2 games. -

I thought he played alright against Miami with what i saw. A few things to note - No player on NE has an average depth of target of greater than 8 yards(Buffalo has 4 players, i doubt there's anyone in the league throwing passes shorter than this). 6 of the 8 targeted players have an ADOT of 3 or less. 318 of the 467 yards were yards after the catch. 165 of buffalos 449 passing yards were yards after catch. Jones is averaging 3 air yards per pass attempt. And completing passes at a little under 3 yards per completion. The entire team had 260 yards and 17 first downs against the jets. That would be worse than the average yardage output that the jets put out in 2020, and just about the same with regards to first downs. The jets defense is bad. -
Offensive Slump: Josh Allen vs Brian Daboll
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to elijah's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Essentially make some quick gainers to knox and singletary who are in single coverage with LBs. Or create a rush lane to get free yards scrambling. If they want to play 2 high safeties in 2 man, make them stop. Mahomes and Wilson do this constantly and get those 10-15 yard easy first downs trotting out of bounds. Force them to spy, or adjust - and hit them when they do. -
Was he that bad against baltimore? Both teams missed a couple of FGs. Buffalo couldn't run the ball at all. They came out and took a 7 point lead in the 3rd quarter, and didn't have the ball again until the 4th quarter. And they ran 5 minutes off the clock on the next drive after the pick 6. Could probably argue he was our best player against KC - not sure anyone else even qualifies.

Manning cast indirectly peek into Bills Offense.
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Mat68's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah... I saw Kelce catch a pass from a bailing mahomes right near the LOS, and get a 60 yard TD on it. I'm sure he broke a tackle or two, but that doesn't happen without a ton of downfield blocks. -

No - but based on a game flow, if there is a light box you are supposed to check and run the ball. When you play empty for 30 snaps, the runs come from the QB which i think is a bit dangerous. I don't think you need to go heavy here, just do a quick count of the box and if you have numbers run it. Sanders had one down the field too. Those are usually the difference between 10-15 and TD runs. -

It bothered me that a lot of run checks in week 1 were mostly qb draws. If they want to play 2 high, run out of 11 personnel. Don't need the qb constantly running into contact, we have running backs for that. Some read option plays for them were big chunks. I think they ran a qb power as well. There were also man coverage scrambles. We've seen mostly zone to limit the scrambles, but read option and qb power can get u numbers on one side for chunk plays if they want to play off coverage zone. I'd use Spencer brown in some situations like that. He played tight end before and size wise he's a mismatch to any linebacker. It'll force their hand and u can attack vertically with play action. I'd even motion Knox across to Crack block on some runs and bootlegs to get the backside more help.
