1. Yeah of course he can be replaced, and although his role as a run stopping DE is coveted by DC's in the NFL, they're not shiny things that fans love to see. Fans don't, as a general rule, and evidenced in this very thread, covet role type players, even if they are very good at their particular role. I think what most fans at TSW think is that he was over-drafted, which, for the most part is entirely true, but it doesn't disparage his role on the team now, or in the future. Coaches don't care about whether a guy was taken too early, only that they fill a need, and are good at it. His ball awareness is also very good, in fact, I'm not sure I can point to a bad game he's had this year? Again, solid contributor, not shiny, guys of his skill-set can be found later in most drafts, but we have him, we paid a 1st for him, and hindsight is always 20/20. It's not enough to move on from him, and whether he was another regimes pick is pointless. As already stated in this thread, coaches don't care about who drafted a player, only that he is a player, and plays well within the spectrum of the defense scheme. Shaq does that, and I think McD knows it! Tim-
2. I don't buying this story at all. Shaq has unique skills at what he does bets and that is setting the strong-side edge on the run, and contain on the weak side, he does this very well and I think grading him compared to other run stopping DE's in the NFL, I'd rank him pretty high, maybe even top ten. What he does not do well, and was drafted and advertised was as a pass rushing DE, this he is not. His "get-off" is too slow, he tends to lean in, rather than using his hands on passing downs, so in that regard, he was mischaracterized by Whaley and Rex. Maybe they knew, or maybe they just over drafted a guy hoping he would transition better in the NFL with a little coaching, (Not sure GM's ever think that someone's college tape will translate to something different at the NFL level, but I digress), but the overall point of Shaq's game is that he is a solid NFL starter at setting the edge on 1st, 2nd down. Does that increase his trade value? Probably not, as those guys can be found on day two and three of the draft. I think McD is well aware of what Shaq brings to the table, and he is valued for these reasons. I don't see them shopping him at all, but I also suspect that they will entertain offers if they are made. You need guys like him on your defense in today's NFL, plain and simple. Kicking him inside is not his game, and I suspect no one at OBD is even entertaining that idea. He's solid, cheap, and fills a much needed role on any defense, I doubt very much he's going anywhere, this off-season, but I could be wrong, who knows, right? Tim-
3. I starting veteran is worth more than a 1st rounder, I'd say Glenn at least is worth a 1 when adding another 1 and maybe a 2nd and Taylor. The Browns have Kizer for Gods sake, and I assume they'll pick Rosen or Darnold with their first pick overall. Why wouldn't they want to add a vet in Taylor, his contract isn't crazy and the Browns havemondo dollars to spend.. With Taylor, they're not going 0 - 16 next year.. Tim-
4. Not so much that he doesn't have trade value, he does assuming he passes a physical for some team, but does he have value for the Bills? I say no, at this point he's a toss up each week to play, and coaches don't like toss up game plans. If healthy let someone else worry about his health, I say the Bills need to walk away from him, and Dawkins has played just as well as Cordy every did for us. Just my opinion, Tim-
5. Ok, so been thinking about this a lot, and what I'd like to see won't happen, but here it is, what do you think? 1. Find a way to unload any combination of Glenn/Hughes/Taylor and the 21st overall pick, and one of our 2nd round picks to move up to 4 and grab Mayfield, and then Gordon from the Browns. 2. Sign Keenum and let them compete. 3. Trade the 22nd overall pick back or best player available if we covet someone there. 4. Use our remaining picks filling holes at MLB (Assuming Brown is gone) CB, G/T, DT, and RB to compliment Shady. 5. Move Lorax back to DE/LB in the Hughes role for one more year! 6. Use the cap dollars to sign McD type players, Maybe Lotulalai at DT to fill other roles. 7. Sign a quality OC, someone with some creativity, that has had a good track record with young QB's, and also knows how to use our OL in the running game. (Think Kromer type mauling run game) 8. I think Frazier is ok at DC for now. 9. Grab a speedy WR either in the draft or FA, need that deep threat it was missing all year! What are the odds of this happening? Not very good, but in a perfect world this is what I'd like to see. Glenn and TT have to go, Hughes? Well, it's anyone's guess, he did play consistent all year and was his best year setting the edge in the run-game, but his lack of sacks/pressures was noticeable on Defense and I think we can replace him for very little. Even Ritchie is not off the table, IMO. Point is that we need three QB's on the roster at training camp, and at least one proven vet. I'd also like to retain JMatt, heck any of our current WR corps as we really don't know what they have until we see TT gone, IMO. Thoughts? Tim-
6. Aarrgghh, I would hate that. I'd understand it, but I'm greedy as well. I guess it all depends on how the chips fall, how the lying season goes, where's the hype, where isn't it. All these things play into your draft strategy, but using only a single 1st round pick on a QB and the other to trade back or BPA is my ideal situation. If the Tebow comparisions drops Mayfields draft stock, I'm all for it, and I hope that our GM doesn't fall for it. Tebow could only dream of having the arm that Mayfield has. Tim-
7. I think whoever it is, will depend greatly on who we draft at QB. Tim-
8. I agree, I think he checks a lot of boxes if not all of them, and, when the smoke clears he might just go a lot higher than we can afford. He reminds me of Doug Flutie, Drew Brees with a stronger arm. It will be interesting to see how his game translates to the NFL, no way to really gauge that at this point. That's what the pro scouts are for, although, not sure what they see that others do not? What I see is situational awareness, grit, heart, accuracy, strength, and tenacity. What else would you want? We have to get this right with the 21st/22nd pick, if he's there, I say it's a no brainer! Tim-
9. Well, I see no reason if he's there to use a first round pick on him. He's got all the heart you want in a QB, he won't check down when they 7 for a 1st down, and seems like he's tough as nails! Tim-
10. How bout Kay Adams? That's only babe I'd care to bother watching.. Tim-
11. The problem is that most D-Coordinators MUST know this already, but teams can't execute, they panic. Sure Xavian Howard was able to do this against the Pats a few weeks ago and the Dolphins won, was it luck? Maybe, or maybe the Dolphins balled out.. Zero deep passes connected on that game, and the Miami defense was able to play the middle and move Brady laterally. I mean, I saw what everyone else saw, right? This is exactly what they did, and what Pitt tried to do last week with some success, but ultimately in a loss. And for the love of God, McD, please send a LB up the middle in a delayed blitz from time to time would ya? Tim-
12. So, not that anyone is listening that can actually make the game plan work, but we ALL know that the Pat's live and will die by their success in the middle of the field, with wheel routes to their backs and seam routes to their TE's.. Yes, they throw deep when that is taken away but only to try to shift the defense and force teams to use two deep safeties, thus opening up the middle again. McD, and this defense needs to stay disciplined with this. They need to leave Gains (My God I hope he plays) and Tre on an island but playing off, allowing short outs to the sidelines all day long. Percentages favor this approach. Brady only throws deep to move the safeties, period! He doesn't like to do it. He makes his living in the middle and to the backs, we have to take that away by keeping at least one safety, maybe even two, all day concentrated into the middle and up the seams. One S over the top on whatever side Gronk is at, and the other in the box cutting off the in-crossing route. The push up front needs to be up in his face, do NOT allow Brady to move up into the pocket to throw, force him to move laterally. Ironically, the Pat's strength is also our strength on offense. We have no competent Wide Outs, although a few deep shots need to happen Sunday. Our strength is wheel routes to RB's and running in general. TE's up the seams and crossing route to our Slot receivers, Brandon Reilly, are you there? If we can stay disciplined with this, Brady will get frustrated, and we have a chance, if we allow the deep shot, it al goes to hell because McD, and Frazier will panic. tre, and Gains are more than capable of one on one on the outside, as long as Cooks isn't allowed to run by them, this is the game plan to use. Go Bills! I know you can do it! Do it for Johnny, stay Gold Ponyboy!! Tim-
13. He can be anything you want him to be, and all I want for Xmas is a real NFL QB.. I think, without holding the box and shaking, that, that just might be what's inside; of course, it could also be a fruit cake... <Saying fruit cake, does that make me gay? Tim-
14. No, the defense played well and took the ball away in those wins, name ONE single GAME TT won for this team the entire time he's been here, just ONE. Look, I was with the others, TT has good measurable, doesn't turn the ball over etc.. etc.. He's NEVER going to win you a game by himself; sure, he will not lose you one by himself either, but come one, if you look close at TT, and his actual game-play, we as fans are now starting to see what all the other teams see. A scared QB, that will not will his team to victory, ever! Tim-
15. So much for accountability... Look, TT had his chance, this team is NOT going to the playoffs with this soft zone defense, (Which wasn't even exploited today) and terrible run D.. Peterman looks like he gets what Dennison is trying to do, modeling his game after Drew Brees, quick read passes will open up the run game. Thing is, teams know that if they shut down our run, then TT is toast.. It's NOT a secret McD, come on man! Tim-
16. Just pure disgusting BS What else is there to say? When rookie QB's ALL around the league destroy your seasoned veteran YOU have to make a change. Period! Tim-
17. Romo is the color this game, and I actually like his insights, I think he has a big future in broadcasting.. Go Bills! Tim-
18. Brady has been running this (his) offense now for 17 years, with barely any major changes, and consistency at the OC, and head coach positions. He KNOWS it inside and out, and he has the benefit of 17 years worth of experience reading defenses, meaning, he doesn't get fooled much. When offensive players move or come in, there is a learning curve, but when settled, these players know exactly where to be on any given play and he knows exactly where they're going to be.. If a called play isn't there, he sniffs it out immediately (most times) and checks down to the almost always correct guy. It's what they do, and have been doing for 1000 years it seems. It's the system, but, the system is well understood by the guys executing it. It's not a mystery, every other team in the NFL wants to have a system, and a QB that knows how to run it every Sunday, that is the key. Brady doesn't nor has he ever had the best arm, or even the best accuracy, but he is highly efficient at his craft, maybe the best ever. That's why they win week in and week out. When you have the luxury as a head coach of ignoring one major part of your team, you free up lots of time to fiddle with the rest. That's the funny thing about football, IMO, you can have a system for an offense, but the system rarely translates to defense. Offenses tend to dictate the play, defenses, with the exception of a few historically great defenses, react to what offenses do, they do NOT generally dictate the play. Stopping the run and forcing a team to pass is not the same thing. Point is that, what Brady and Bellicheck have accomplished in their tenure is nothing short of incredible. Everyone sets out with the goal of developing their own system, and having the right QB with grey matter between the ears to execute, but it's a rare thing in the history of football to witness it year in and year out. I hate the Patriots just like any other Bills fan, not because of any one individual, but because of envy. I hated Wayne Gretzky as well, but you can't argue against what they accomplished in their careers. Brady and Belliceck put in the work, they earned what they have accomplished, no one gave it to them. That said, !@#$ Tom Brady, and Go Bills!!!!!!!! Tim-
19. It did seem really weird, BUT, all those calls were legit penalties, so there's that.. Tim-
20. Haha @ Dannon... LOL That one commercial he's in, is so full of cliché's, one's head explodes just watching it. Tim-
21. Cam Newton: President of the "He-man, women haters, club"... In any regard, big deal, suck it up buttercup.. Tim-
22. The key, quite frankly is McCoy. If he gets going, the game will be close if not in our favor, if he doesn't, then we're simply not good enough to beat this team with TT's arm. Tim-
23. Big test this weekend, but really happy to see the kid ballin.. I called it in the draft-day thread that he was the best day one ready CB in the draft and a lot of posters were very skeptical.. Tim-
24. Actually, I read some very reasonable posts. Treating more like a "trap" game, whatever that means.. LOL They know our D is legit, best they've faced so far, problem is our Offense can't keep up, so, yeah I'd be a little worried because if TT can somehow find his form (LOLOL I know I know) then decent offence great defense wins NFL Football games, simple as that. Tim-
25. Yes, but the difference is that playing soft-zone on 1st, and 2nd down is typically what happens, and on 3rd down you tighten up, regardless of where you are on the field. I didn't see that yesterday at all except for in the red-zone. Tim- Agreed, PI, or a contested catch down the field is as good as a punt IMO. What's to lose? Not enough of that going on at 1BD these days. If I'm going to suffer through yet again another middling season can we at least make it exciting to watch? Tim-
