We all have a pick we LOVE in round 1 of the 2018 draft... A kid with the intangibles! A kid with upside through the roof! A kid who could be completely out of football by 2020!!! Here's your chance to own the pony!... Detail what's RIGHT with your pick... Don't, however, forget to mention the drawbacks... Explain why they cause your pick to go down in FLAMES. My Pick: Da'ron Payne, DT Alabama 6'2" 310 lbs The good: Power... -Unlimited power! -Comes off the ball fast... Excellent short-range pursuit speed (when necessary)... can stop a runner with one paw... Surprising athletic ability, and game-awareness. i.e. batting balls, INT's, fumble recovery... plugs rushing lanes and Easily draws 2 blockers... Big personality.. -Leads by example.... Lot's of room to grow & get even stronger! The bad: Needs to work on technique (hands placement, pad-level) Often quits on double teams... Inconsistent motor (disappears in games sometimes) My guess is the motor does him in. Might not be able to process, and work through blockers at the next level. -Still worth the shot @ 21 or 22, IMHO.

I get your point about not always chasing 1st rounders at certain positions... I just disagreed when you said few people knew who played OG, and Safety for NE...I think QB is also one of those positions where you really DON'T need to be a 1st rounder in order to be effective. -As evidenced by the two 3rd rounders, and 6th round QB that won the last three S-Bowls... In this instance, I just happen to feel that Payne is 1) a generational player 2) at a position of dire need, and 3) at a place where we could get him.... I actually think there's J.A.G. QB's available later in this draft. -

I don't think that's the case at all... The network talking heads were fawning over the Jags D-line most of last season.. -Especially once Dareus got there. Philly's LB's did some good things last season... Backed up a 2nd ranked rushing Defense... Including ole #53! -Folks around here know him REAL well... And as for Brady's O-line, OF COURSE people (who follow the NFL) are aware of guys like Shaq Mason and Nate Solder... -Where do you get this stuff? -

1st round talent for D-line would be a HUGE get... We had the 28th-ranked run D at the end of last season... Da'ron Payne makes perfect sense if he's there... I personally think Jackson is two years awayfrom being anything REMOTELY like a a pro QB, but hell... If he's there in the 2nd pull the trigger... Some on the board think the undersized Maurice Hurst would work at 21 or 22.. I'd have to say NO WAY to that... My pick at DT is Payne... LB Rashaan Evans in Versatile, intuitive, and speedy... I understand teams being afraid of theGroin-injury issue, but that's why you do your homework... Payne at 21, and (if he's healthy) Evans at 22, and lets go BILLS D!!!! -

No LB or DT huh?... What happens when your highly touted rookie turns the ball over three times vs. a team that can run the rock? With Dareus gone, I'd want Da'ron Payne around to soak up that run... Rashaan Evans to help him clean up... A. Donald was already a permanent fixture on that D-line when Goff showed up... Kroenke made sure his rookie had a strong supporting cast with plenty of help at RB, WR, and TE... You don't build a house roof-first. -

I am just fascinated by this aspect of your post... Possibly because of my fantasies of running to the podium (beer in hand, sans shirt) and an making a selection too. I wouldn't hate Billy price at 22. as long as my shirtless drunk ass got Da'ron Payne at 21... -
Sounds like the quintessential b_tch-drink... Probly costs about 16 bucks.
-
T-Master went a little vague with the thread title... Hopefully he edits it at some point..
-
Oh right, the infamous report... Now, read it And it STILL says he could backup Tom and develop into a starter... Even Merrill Hodge, who hated the kid. gave him a 6th round rating.
-
Yes there were skeptics... Peopled that questioned his character.... Taking him where the Brown took him, etc... What I don't recall, is a whole lot of this "He'll never make it" talk... A lot of his critics saw his upside.
-
Few shared that sentiment when the Browns used a first round pick on him in '14... He has a lot to prove... If his act is truly together, another opportunity shouldn't be out of the question.
-
Every rookie NFL QB needs to find their own game... Every young man needs to find himself... Johnny is a natural athlete that dominated his position at the college level. I don't agree with everything he does... That said, it's HIS live, and he likes to live to the fullest... The NFL definitely did the right thing by turning their back on him. However, If he's truly gotten his act together, and is finally serious about football he deserves an opportunity at redemption.... Maybe this isn't the time. Let's see how things play out. If he ever comes back, The follow-up thread will be: "Should the Bills Key-in on Karlos?"

He said he's a PROJECT the COULD BE worth the risk in the second round. -I agree. -
Manziel was in the process of finding his game at the pro-level... He arrested his own development, and now it's hard for people to trust him. I'd like to see how he handles the bullsh_t league he's playing in now.
-
I believe Manziel can still play in the NFL... But there are players. I think, more deserving of a second chance. (*sigh*) Karlos Williams! -WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!

Tobert did what he could, but It'd be nice to have a better compliment to McCoy... I'd kick the tires on Ivory. -

He's a three-time pro bowler... But his time is clearly up... Was bound to happen some day. -
This kid is red zone GOLD. Not to mention a huge hassle for defenders get around.. This is your rookie QB's best friend on the football field. -If you call yourself an OC, and can't fit Wozniak somewhere in your offense, you probably suck. I like Mark Andrews... If we got him at 22 I would be FINE with it... I like O'Leary, but he's limited in what he can give you... Charles Clay can't stay healthy for s__t... A kid like Wozniak would add depth as a UDFA, as well as that "WTF!" -factor that gives D-coordinators fits.
-
That Baylor kid (La Quan McGowan) was FAT -Over 400 lbs at 6'6"! Wozniak is downright svelte at 6'10" 275.... He's a load, but the kid is NOT too boo-koo.
