  1. I realize what an axxhole this makes me sound like, but I'll say it anyway. His father was one of the very few players I would have cheered if he got injured. That being said, I absolutely don't blame Jr for his father. But, I also just would have a really hard time rooting for him (unless he played great for the Bills of course).

I have a theory that the early-mid 30's are the prime years for a franchise QB in these current times due to all the advances in healthcare & training. A decade or 2 before, it was the mid-late 20's. My reason being they have all the built in wisdom from 10+ years of experience playing combined w/ all of their physical skills still in tact. A good example is Aaron Rodgers. I feel like he's playing the best football of his life. He still has a great arm and has the intelligent and XP to know precisely how to use it. This is why I feel Stafford is in a prime position to take his game to a new level.

I can partially buy this as it makes sense. However, I can't think of many QBs who first start to look great in their 30s. Rich Gannon possibly, but that wasn't recent. Rogers was always good since he took over as a starter. I'd agree that his experience has helped him get better. I think you could have always said that was the case that QB's experience after 10 years in the league made them better. The big difference now vs. years ago is more about the rules than the training. Kelly was absolutely killed for most of his career. Part was from early on the Bills didn't have a line. Part was the way he played the game. But a big part was that the rules allowed him to be hit much more and much harder than he would be today.

    No Andy dalton?

I picked Darnold because he’s Josh’s friend and because it will piss off jets fans if he’s good

When I was first thinking about starting this thread, I was going to include Dalton, I just forgot😟 If I knew how to edit the choices, I'd add him on. Personally, I'd like to see him do well but I don't see any chance that he will in Chicago.

I don't really think Stafford or Fitz quite belong there. The others haven't been good and required a change of scenery, but changing teams is normal for Fitz and Stafford is already a very good QB and has been for his while career.

I'd love to see Darnold succeed. Poor guy got such a raw deal.

I agree that Stafford was a completely different situation than Darnold or Wentz in that he was never the problem in Detroit, he just didn't have a team around him. I just wanted to keep him here since he's another former top pick that switched teams. Actually, I was listening to Sirius XM NFL Radio yesterday (?) and I think it was Ryan Leaf was ranking the QBs in the NFC West. He had Stafford as last saying that until he sees it, he's not buying that changing Goff for Stafford is going to necessarily change much.

As for Fitz, yes, he's the odd man out in that he's not a former top pick, he has generally been what he is, a decent stop gap QB or a good backup. Again, I just decided to include him for as much as any reason many of us like to see him succeed when it doesn't adversely affect the Bills. Him being in the NFC, and also being the on the only NFC team that only plays the Bills in our division, I likely will root for him in every game except of course against the Bills.

I think Carson Wentz will most benefit from a "reset" especially with his former coach Frank Reich and a good line in front of him.  He has the physical talent and (I think) the intelligence.  He had no support at the Eagles on any level (coaching, line, running game, receivers, defense) and I think he will regain his confidence in a short time.

I agree, or at least I kind of hope you're right. I don't really care about Wentz except I like the idea of Reich looking good and him resurrecting Wentz's career will make him look good. Of course, if he does, then the Colts will be competition for the Bills, but that's ok, so long as we beat them in the playoffs. And, I'd much rather the Colts win than the Titans.

  5. A couple of days before the draft I was watching the NFL Network and they were talking about one of the QBs that's now on a new team. I started thinking about there being several former top draft choices that are on new teams and I unexpectedly started to realize that I kind of hope a few of them do well on their new team, for the most part, just to give their old team misery (i.e. especially the Jersey Jerks). Anyway, I was wondering what others thought. I originally was only going to include 1st round QBs that just went to a new team, but I couldn't resist including Fitzpatrick and then I decided to keep Winston on as well even though he was with the Saints last year and isn't yet considered the starter. And no, I had no intention of including Mitch Trubisky since we all hope he only plays after we've wrapped up  the #1 seed two weeks before the season ends.

Back in the 90s, the stadium also sat 80,000 people making sellouts very challenging..

Actually, they sold out every game and had the highest attendance in the league for 2 or 3 (or 4?) straight years.

I believe the comeback game wasn't sold out. I think that one had about 75,000 which was a great crowd. A small market team shouldn't have a stadium that big but Bills fans still did a great job filling it. I think the 73,000 we have now is a nice number for the market size.

You're correct, it was not. But, I think (and someone else already alluded to some of this) there were a few reasons for not selling out:

    - Up until the week before, we didn't know there would be a game in Buffalo. So, we had something like 4 days to lift the blackout and of course the full 7 days to actually sell out.

    - Middle of winter although I don't remember this being a very cold day.

    - Too used to winning. After being the #1 seed the prior two years, now we got in as a wild card made people less enthusiastic of our chances.

    - We lost the prior week to the same team and left that game beat up, Kelly, Thomas, and Bennett (I may be wrong about Bennett) were injured.

You young bucks... Miami was that to the Bills in the 70s and early 80s... 14 straight seasons of two losses...

10 straight seasons, not 14. 0 for the 70's, i.e. 20 straight loses. But we won the last game of the 60's and the first of 1980.

And, it was Chick Knox who pulled us out of those xxxt times. Levy pulled us out of the next xxxt times that started when Ralph let Knox walk.

For the Texans, he makes a lot of sense.  He will keep things moving, not make a lot of mistakes, but won’t take risks.  If they figure out this recent stuff of settlements, Watson might make it after week 8, or never. If he does make it past this endeavor, and the Texans quietly support him behind closed doors, he might do a 180 on playing for the Texans.

If they are on a rebuild and he does ok, then he’s playing for a future backup role which he is well suited for in the NFL.  His pipe dream of a starter is gone, but he can still roll another 8 years as a backup and make a nice living for his playing career retirement.

They just started one of their many specials on MTC, and this one is an eight day deal evaluating the QB room.  So far in two days they’ve done the AFCE and AFCN.  Now of these teams Allen rated the highest as an 8-10 for starters, and their backup can go up to a score of 0-6, whereas their developmental guy is 0-4.  As a group so far the only team in the running for their top 10 or 5 list is the Bills as they scored a combined 15.  My point was simply having Mitch places the Bills QB room better than most.  Fromm received a 2 of 4 as they didn’t see him last year and they pick who is the most likely developmental guy of Fromm over Webb.

As it pertains to Tyrod is he would be a great #2 wherever for the next 8 years.  If he starts for a bad team, does reasonably well say 4-13 to 5-12 and that’s a stretch, then he’s good for a long time bouncing around making $2-4 mil./yr. for the following seven to eight years.

I listened to much of MTC yesterday but missed the Bills talk. I did hear Pat K say Josh, Ben R, and I can't remember who else were the only 8s so far. I was curious about the rest of the QB room, seems you're saying Mitch is a 5 which seems fair. I was disappointed they didn't have Josh a 9, what was the reasoning?

  9. I was listening to Sirius XM the other night. I'm pretty sure it was Pat Kirwan who was stating that Chicago is trying to make it "easier" on the players to try to encourage them to show up. With this approach they got 77% to show up. He said that this is pretty crappy and quoted what other teams are getting (I don't remember specifics on the others, but probably more like 90%). His take was making it less stringent is not a good approach, players want to get better, they want to win and they feel getting pushed is going to help them reach those goals. Our 89% (if 75 of 84 ends up being the number), seems in line with the other contenders. Oddly, they didn't mention the teams that have no one attending.

@Virgilis the USA as compared to England. He surpassed me and I am happy that he did so and quite proud of him.

I want people to know that what Virgil does is not as easy as one would think. To post summaries as such is work. To do so, one must love the Bills and truly love TBD/TSW.  Remember, he is on his own. There are no Sundays off for him. The rewards however include creating dialogue, expressing your opinions, learning from other Bills Fans, and sharing the joy of wins (which were not so plentiful for me).

During one season, I was getting divorced and couldn't get DTV in my new apartment. I watched the games in a sports bar, frantically taking notes. It wasn't so bad because several women actually approached me and asked if they could read what I was writing lol! They were curious about the song lyrics. :)

I told Virgil that if given ample notice, I will fill in for him if he needs a week off.  Should this happen, don't expect my work to be as good as his!

Last season, I was thinking that we would win the Super Bowl. I was a huge Josh Allen Fan from day 1. As many of you probably know, I am a University of Alabama Crimson Tide fan for more than 50 years. I thought that both of my teams would be champions together.  Well, this year the Bills will do it imo. and; @Virgil will be the perfect person to lead our celebration.

    GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bill, always loved reading your few thoughts and also love reading Virgil's now as well as Shaw's Rockpile review. Have you considered resurrecting even with Virgil still doing his. Can't get too much of these excellent reviews (at least after a win)!

This is a fair take. Most of the head scratching will be whether or not people grade Tre vs. Mahomes or Mahomes vs. the class as a whole.

My only disagreement in your grading, and it is super minor, is Peterman. The dude was a dud, don't get me wrong, but I look at most picks outside of the 4th as "meh". If you find value, great. If you don't it's the 5th, 6th, 7th round. Those picks don't work out all the time. Tough to hold it against the FO. Sure, there is always a guy there that turned out to be a stud, but it's not wild that a guy drafted in the 5th 6th, 7th don't make it through camp. If it weren't for actually naming him the starter he could still be our QB3 (what a wild thought).

Yup. How many 5th round or later QBs not named Brady or Warner have become starters, let alone franchise QBs? They are normally short term backups / practice squad players. The pick wasn't the issue, it's that we had him start, especially to begin the next season when we already had JA on the team.

I have said it a lot but in years to come the narrative on Marvin Lewis will change from the man who went 0-7 in the playoffs to the man who got the Bengals to the playoff seven times. Their last 14 non Marvin Lewis seasons they have won fewer than 6 games TEN times.

Completely agree. The instances of firing a coach who consistently gets his team to the playoffs but "can't win the big one" seems to work this way (at least the examples I can think of). Think of every time Marty Shottenheimer was fired; Cleveland, KC, San Diego. For the most part the team went downhill as soon as he left.

Yeah, I upgraded to 3 a few years back vs 2, just to get better seats.

My daughter had a visual disability and could hardly see the players from even half way up the 100s; but came to almost every game anyways as she really enjoyed the experience.

One positive outcome of all this lockdown crap is we had time to find a new doc with an experimental non surgical treatment.  She went from having a clinical visual disability and got accommodations at school etc., to having better than average vision.  She’s going to be shocked at her first game when she can see the ball, see the numbers on the jerseys, and just see the action.  I really can’t wait to take her back for her first game since the treatment.

Reading this just made my day. That's great news, the whole world must be different for her now!

This will go down as his “Ronnie Harmon” play...

Can't agree with you there. DS' drop was early in the game, lots of time left. RH's was with the game on the line. If he catches it, we move on to the AFC Championship. Also, what really pxssed me off with RH was that he didn't take responsibility. He said the pass wasn't on target. Although possibly it could have had better placement, it was in his hands, no excuse to not catch it.

You disagree with the fact that I don’t like Flukie?

You disagree with me that Flukie was a complete ****** 2 of the 3 times that I have encountered him?

you may disagree......but I still don’t like him and he was still an ****** irl.

“he was cool when he was here”.  How many times have you encountered him irl?  Or was he just cool on tv?

Speaking of Flutie, in 2003 or possibly it was 2004, I was flying from Boston to San Diego. My son was around 2 years old. He was super tired, acting like a tired 2 year old, but never fell asleep until we were descending into SD. 3 hours into the flight he stood on the arm rest and jumped into the aisle (yes, apparently we were those kind of parents that couldn't control their kid). Flutie was sitting in the row behind us (yes, in coach). Didn't say anything to us. Walking off the plane I said something about being a Bills fan and that I always rooted for him.

My understanding is that no player can actually play in more than 16 regular season games, so records should be protected.

I hadn't heard that at all. I have heard each player under contract will get a prorated 1/16th extra game check. Why would that happen if they weren't allowed to play the extra game?
