It goes back a lot longer than this century.  We were the league's laughingstock in the late 1960's, the mid to late 1970s, the mid 1980's and then the long drought mostly in the 21st century.   The only times we've been good were the early-mid 1960s, the early 1970s-both eras when Lou Saban was coach; the early 1980s and the  late 1980s through around 2000.   There have been a lot of losing and mediocre seasons.  Right now it feels like the late 1980s to us long suffering fans.

Yup. I was born in 1960 and always considered myself a Bills fan. I remember following them from '71 when they were 1-13, through the '70s when we were always Miami's b*the, even in the couple of good OJ years. Then the '80s, we were good a couple of years when Knox made us a real organization, so of course Ralph drove him away. I wanted to write Ralph a letter right after Knox quit saying I was done with the Bills, but of course I couldn't stop rooting for them even through another half decade of craptitude. Then of course the glory days with Levy/Kelly and then Wade before the drought came.

We are due for this new era of continued success. We finally once again have a QB/coach/GM to make it happen and ownership that will support them.

A lot of Bills fans don't like admitting this but we got extremely lucky getting into the playoffs that year.

Every year teams get in because of some luck or needing help to get in. So what? Kind of amazing we went so long without ever getting that luck.

Of course, also pretty amazing how long from 200 through 2016 we went with only 2 winning records and both times the coach quit.

  3. I don't care much who we play. But, on the other hand, wouldn't it be great if we avenged all of our regular season losses in the playoffs? In fact, if we rest starters in Week 17 and that allows the Dolfish to get in, could we play Fish, Titans, Chefs, and then in the Super Bowl the Cardinals? I realize very unlikely (at least for the Cardinals to make it that far), but it would be great.

So just thinking without getting into the whole simulator but maybe an ideal scenario?

cinci wins tonight we move to 2

Steelers lose to Indy, we beat pats

week 17 rest starters, Miami in at seven seed.

    play Miami again.

is anyone else in play for number 2 if we win next week?

Someone already said it before, we need Titans to lose a game. They play Green Bay, so it's quite likely.

  5. Since I moved back to NYS, in September I knew I'd buy seasons again (left in 93, the only year I had season tickets instead of going to a handful of games each year). Last week I heard an ad that they're taking reservations. I called up to buy 2 tickets. Got the 40 yard line row 35. An hour later called to get 2 more for a friend knowing there were 2 seats next to me. The 4 right behind were also open. Another friend called 2 days later and was told those were gone. I called back yesterday and was told the best available were near the end zone. He said the last 2 weeks have been going like crazy.

The clip of OJ's run against the Colts in the '73 season is my favorite run of his. I was just a tad bit too young to remember the AFL championships and unfortunately started following the team during the John Rauch/Harvey Johnson "era of futility".

I pity you for following them during those years. I only remember two things from that era of the Bills. Watching them beat the Jets in 1968 for their only win of the season (the year the Jets went on to win SB III). And, that I had a Bills beanie hat. I walked to the corner store wearing the beanie and the owner said he'd give me the candy I was getting for free if I could name Dennis Shaw's backup, this must have been 1970. I don't think I even knew who Dennis Shaw was so I obviously wasn't really following them. The first I really remember being a diehard fan was OJ's 2000 yard season, 1973. I watched every game that was televised, knew all of the stats every week, and made sure to announce them in school Monday morning when Mr. Sealy asked how our weekend was.

The following season was just the Redskins year. Everything went right for them, then our DL coach mocked the Hogs fueling their anger. The following year the young Dallas super team was done with growing pains and shredded the League. If there was any evidence of a ‘Wide Right’ hangover, it was the following year where we came out guns blazing to Right the Wrongs in our swan song appearance. Thurman’s early 3rd Quarter fumble being returned for a TD shouldn’t have had such a deflating effect. From that point on, the Bills no longer felt they could win moreso than Dallas being propelled to come back.

We were clearly the best the AFC offered during that time but the NFC had multiple powerhouses. So much so, we never played San Francisco in a Super Bowl but they were Perennial Super Bowl contenders, winning the 2 previous ones then returning soon for another title after our run was over.

I never bought "the NFC was the much better conference" takes. The NFC those years had one team (Redskins then Cowgirls) that were far better than the rest. They blew out the Bills in SB 26-28, but they also blew out their competition throughout the playoffs. The Bills did well against their NFC teams in the regular season as I recall, including winning the first ever no punt game vs. the 49ers. They of course could have/should have won SB25. The Giants barely beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship game (winning on a last second 47 yd FG) and of course beat the Bills due to a last second missed 47 yd FG.

  8. I had lived in Endicott, NY for 11 years since college. Finally in the spring I bought season tickets after having been going to between 2 and 4 games a year, I got a friend of mine to go in with me on either 2 or 4 tickets. Then, within a couple of weeks of each other, my friend Rob decides to move back home to Newburg and felt it's too far to go to games, and I took a job in California. Ended up selling all the tickets except for the season finally (to NJ Jerks, Dec. 24th). Never bought season's again since I'd been in CA ever since until two months ago when I took a job back in Central NY.

I’ve always been one to take happiness over money. A couple million in a solid position beats twice that as the HC of the Browns and waiting to get fired. I get wanting to be set for life, but NOT if it means being set up to fail in a miserable situation.  Money is nice, happiness is better. One does not buy the other.

I really don't think it's about money. I think the primary reason that almost all coaches want to be head coaches is that you want to get to the top of your profession. That's being a HC, not a coordinator. Dabol left NE to become an OC instead of a position coach. Likely he'll leave us too if it means being a HC. Yes, occasionally they will not take the position that is from a crappy organization, but I think in general they do, especially for the first opportunity. Plus, for most, opportunities don't necessarily keep coming around. Although he didn't get any looks last year, many thought Frazier should have been a HC candidate based on the Bills defense. Now, there's little chance he'd get considered based on this year's play. Same could happen to the O.

Although I hope he stays, I believe if he's given the opportunity, Dabol will be gone.

for rapid comeback in the time it takes to go to the bathroom and miss.....it was that 3 TD comeback against Denver. Block FG for TD, pick fir TD, thrn Elway fumble.

That was me that went to the bathroom just as the broncos lined up. Missed it!

I was at the comeback game though and didn't leave.

All the other plays you mentioned were great too. I'd probably choose the QB draw by Kelly vs. Dolfish.

Belichick was manipulated by Brady and Kraft into trading away Garropolo. I bet Belichick and Kraft really regret that trade.

The Pats would be totally different today if they had Garopollo.

While I agree they'd be a much better team with Garropolo, would he still be there? I thought NE never paid Brady top QB money. Jimmy G. was the highest paid QB at the time he signed his contract. Could you imagine them dumping Brady to pay so much more for Garrapolo? And, BB is saying that part of the problem is that they spent enough over the last several years so that now they don't have flexibility. At the time that they signed Newton, they had almost 0 cap space. Since then they freed up quite a bit. But, I don't think they could have afforded or been willing to pay Garrapolo's salary.

I will preface by stating I am 100% Bills fan

IMO the Titans should forfeit these two games so their record would be 3-2, let them suffer

I don't however think the Bills and Steelers should be given wins as wins are too tough to come by in the NFL to award a team for doing nothing.  Typically the difference between winning the division and/or getting a wild card comes down to tie breakers like div/conf record, or even points so to give a team a win just seems like too much of an advantage to them and unfair to the other teams.  At the end of the season playoff spots are awarded on winning percentage, Bills are 10-5 played 15 games, and team is 10-6 and played all 16 games.  Bills are ahead of them. (I did just read a column that the NFL is looking at changing playoff seeding to be  based on win percentage so may be heading that way)

MLB, NBA, etc where you're playing 80 to 160 games a year would have little problem awarding a team a win as not nearly as impactful in the grand scheme.

I've been thinking this all along. I see no way the league will give a team a free W. If they gave a forfeit, I think it's as you say, Titans get an L, Bills get a bye and a record based on 15 games.

To both comments, these narratives were on display prior to them being Drafted.

*Darnold is the most Pro ready

    *Allen has great upside

Both are correct and were then. What these assessments have actually translated to is that we’ve now seen the best Darnold is ever going to be and must be surrounded by great talent to truly succeed. Allen STILL hasn’t crested and his team continues to add better pieces.

I disagree with a poster upstream who stated Josh would be a mess were he selected by the Jets. Josh Allen’s belief in his abilities and desire to win would be evident if he were a Jet. He doesn’t take losing well at all, regardless of his coaches or surrounding team.

    Totally agree Chandler.

I remember shortly after the '18 draft hearing from two of the hosts on NFL Radio something to the extent, "I'm worried about Allen. He needs to be developed but I'm afraid Buffalo is the team that drafted a QB that has the least available resources to help him develop." In actuality, that was true his first year:

    - A 3 way QB competition in camp so he didn't get reps as the known starter (plus he lost the competition to Peterman).

    - A QB coach who had been a WR coach for many years and had no history of developing a QB.

    - A not very good OC.

    - A defensively minded Head Coach.

    - No veteran backup to mentor him until DA was brought in mid-season.

    - A horrible OLine.

    - Horrible receivers.

McDermott and Beane have steadily fixed all of these problems while New Jersey has not.

To put this into prespective, I have to travel to Florida in October concerning work. However,  since I am an "essential" employee, I do not have to quarantine when I return to New York.

    Makes sense, huh?

I just came into the state yesterday and am considered an essential worker. I got tested this morning so that I can go into work as soon as I get results (I got the rapid test so already have results). The NYS Covid Tracing called me this morning also to go over everything. I was under the same impression as you, no need to quarantine with the negative test results. They told me this is incorrect. I can go into work based on the results but must otherwise quarantine for 14 days. The reasoning is the incubation period. If I was exposed in the last few days, I may give a negative test result but still have it and still be contagious. So, I can go to work and then go home and isolate myself at home.
