1. what difference does it make?  Wilson has a reputation, deserved or not, for going for the cheaper option.  He claimed in previous PCs that moeny was  not a deciding factor in this decision.  I'm curious if he was true to his word.

I don't think Money was a issue in this...as RW sure must know that he will

be getting less season-ticket holders with DJ at the helm rather than a mike

sherman.....I think this was more to do with Marv Levy appointing someone

that he is comfortable working with as the HC and nothing more than that....

  2. By insinuating that the veterans didn't play hard because Losman was the starting quarterback???? That's disgusting to me. Here's hoping that anyone who did this is no longer on the Bills next year, that includes Eric Moulds. The first ingredient of having success is that you have to want it.

    579688

That is why Big Ben and the Steelers have been to two AFC Conference championships and won one......The steeler and their players (except for that

Faneca stateement when Maddox went down) and their coaches backed Ben

to the tilt.....and showed great faith and played great power running last year

and great defense....two things that our team refused to do this year with

a rookie QB...and now all these guys have the Guts to come out of their

closets and put the enitre blame on Losman's failure....

  3. Why so sure that JP won't get a chance to start?

The Bears drafted both McCown and Grossman during Jauron's days there -- and both were given playing time. In fact, McCown started early before the Bears realized he couldn't play.

    579787

Because Juron will be under extreme pressure to win immediately considering

that he was not the popular choice for the HC job.....So he is probably going

to bet on a Kerry Collins rather than JPL (though the wrong thing to do)....

  4. One thing that you cannot compare is the two things are happening in

different eras....Levy was signed when there was no FA...

With FA, the difference between teams has been how well they have

been coached or not coached....Looks at the teams that are consistnetly

in the playoffs, Denver, Pittsburgh, NE....The thing that puts these teams

over the top is the excellent coaching....When Mularkey was the OC in

Pittsburgh, that team didn't really do much except for that one season when

they went to the AFC championship game in ayear when the whole AFC

was very weak....Can Juron deliver in being that good coach....He failed

miserably at Chicago to motivate that team and have a commanding

    respect from that team...

  5. Too true. Seasone ticket sales will drop dramatically -- you can count on it. The backlash will last all off season. The media will sense this, know their readership wants blood, and really turn up the heat at the press conference.

    579223

That is exactly the reason why I don't think this was a "money" based hire....

  6. Jauron´s hire is probably keeps in line with what Ralph has done in the last few years. Let´s say that Sherman was just too expensive for a HC...

Of course, fans be screwed - they don´t matter anyway...

I´ll probably not follow the Bills next season - why bother with these losers?

    579202

I don't think Money was the issue.....Ralph knows that giving a 2m for

Juron rather than a 3M for Sherman is going to cost him probably a 1M anyways

in season ticket renewal etc....My bet is ML really wanted Juron to be the

guy as he is more comfortable with someone whom he has seen for 3 years

rather than a sherman whom he doesn't know much in person.

  7. Also, does this spell the end for the JP experiment....If Sherman was the

HC i could see him wanting to develop his QB of the future....Dick Juron

coming here with a losing record is going to be under tremendous pressure

to win on day 1.....and who is he going to have his QB....a young QB > My

bet is Kerry Collins will be visiting OBD pretty soon and will be the starting

    QB on opening day...

  8. 10th in the league in rushing with 1247 yards is hardly falling flat on his face.  Let's give the guy a decent OL and gameplan before throwing in the towel, ok?

    576890

You have to take all aspects into account...Not just the #s that please you...

A RB is completely defined by # of Rushes, # of Yards, # of TDs and YPA...

Though McGahee was 10th in total yards....his # of TDs and YPA were more

in the middle of the pack or the lower half....that was what was most

disappointing...but as the original poster mentioned, not all due to his fault...

  9. Bills | Debating head coaching situation

    Sat, 21 Jan 2006 11:47:24 -0800

Allen Wilson, of the Buffalo News, reports Buffalo Bills team sources said there may be a split inside the organization, with some favoring Dick Jauron and others liking Mike Sherman as the team's next head coach. If that is the case, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Dom Capers could become the compromise candidate.

    576824

This is just pathetic and irresponsible journalism....You compromise by

giving in to the other side....not bringing a 3rd option.....Capers has stunk

up the joint at Houston when he got what he wanted... I would have rather

had TOm Coughlin.......Capers is nothing but a good DC....just like a

    Greg Williams...

  10. Maybe he's being considered for DC.

    He's got a coaching pedigree.

    He's a former HC.

    He worked for Dullass.

    He's familiar with the AFCEast.

As a coordinator he might be ok.

As a head coach he'd be dynamite - err, that is, we'd want to dynamite The Ralph and Ralph if that ever happened.

    577280

These rumors about interviewing these HC candidates really for OC or DC

is perplexing....Isn't it the responsibility of the HC to select his own OC, DC

    and coaching staff ?

  11. You gotta admit,  sitting back in the weeds as the OC in sunny Miami, up in the booth instead of freezing on the sidelines in Buffalo with all the pressure, media, fans blasting you at every turn...sounds intriguing.

    574776

It especially helps when 70% of the people watching in the stadium don't

care about the game....talk about lack of pressure....:-)

  12. Amen to that.

It looks like he has learned his lesson. Instead of going after, past-their-prime vets, he is hiringr top-notch coaching talent.

    574786

He is doing blindly what coach Gibbs wants him to do....If Gibbs will ask him

to go and take a dip in the Potomac, I am sure Little Danny boy will be jumping

    into it....

  13. Boy did his star fall fast.  Not just the Bills, but no one is talking to him.

What happened to him?  Did those pictures of him and the sheep at the combines get out?

    574676

I can see MM going this same way....I think people are getting wary of such

coaches who have no control over their teams....I remember Fassel too took

over calling the plays in his last season with the Giants.....What all these teams

need is a guy who can come and give a kick up their ass...

  14. He's clearly over here, but you've probably got to give him almost a pass for this past year.  He lost some key players.  I know a good DC would overcome the losses, but I think the fact our D Line absolutely sucked added dramatically to the drop off this year.

    574923

Tim Krumrie should be held responsible for not getting that D line to play....Where

was his blocking schemes.....I think the bills rightfully cut him.

  15. I agree.  This decision doesn't need to happen this instant.  Sherman could be the right guy, but let's talk to several candidates first -- some of whom may still be busy preparing for games.

    574973

The problem is we might lose out on good quality position coaches and

coordinators who are currently in hot demand....Look at all the critical signings.

If we delay the sherman or juron hiring, then we will probably not get a

Haslett or a Bates as the DC....Remember we have fired quite a few of our

assistants and both (probably) coordinators....The sooner we have a HC then

he gets to pick his assistants from the currently big pool.

  16. There's no guaranteeing he'll end up here. As he also worked under Bill Belichick in Cleveland and the Pats are no doubt looking for a DC with Mangini now the head man with the Jets.

    573899

All the more for us to move quickly on the Sherman thing and get his coaching

staff built before the vultures scoop down

  17. I'd rather have Sherman and his buddy Jim Bates, who is leaving Green Bay.

    573844

Yes...and considering that Bates has taken himself out of the DC job in GB...

Also, Sherman might just be able to include the TE in the game plans...Hope

he cna have the same influence that he had on Bubba Franks or the TE before

that in GB (the guy who was caught for soliciting underaged sex).

  18. For whatever reason, with the recent exception of guys like Roy Williams and Sean Taylor, the top Safeties usually do not go high in the draft. Since it isn't such a premium position, we can probably find a quality player at that position -- maybe even one that can start right away -- in the 2nd or even 3rd round.

    572742

Add Polamalu to your list...He was a 1st round draft pick....
