We have played pretty bad in most of the night games in the recent years
against the decent teams...
o Loss to NE this year.
o Loss to the Dolphins last year
o Loss to the Colts on MNF a few years ago (RJ ws sacked 7 times)
o 31-0 embarassment to the 49ers in the 1st year under GWs
-
Buffalo is currently +10 in turnovers, giving the ball away 26 times while taking it away 36!
This is a HUUUUUGE reason why the Bills are knocking on the playoff door. I can't remember the last time the Bills were on the '+' side with turnovers. Anyone?
Agreed...and that along with STs has shorted the field for the offense to score.
Additionally we have had 9 defensive/special teams TDs this year....That has
to be some sort of record for the bills
-
Everything you've seen this year is very misleading and basically "smoke and mirrors."
I actually subscribe to the theory that simply having better people in the backfield picking up the blitz has made all the difference in our game, in addition to having a running back who can take a nothing play (and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile). Add to that a level of discipline, and you are suddenly a better team when you are more often 2nd and 5 instead of 1st and 15.
Also avoiding undiscipline sacks has let us avoid 2nd and long and 3rd and
long situations....That has to go to the OL/Running game for allowins us to
churn and 3 and 4yards on a 1st down play.

Who has NE beaten? They lost to Pittsburgh, won against the colts at home
by a last second field goal and then beat teams with losing records and
bad teams like the bills (as viewed by the Vikes Fan)....
-
I think it is RW who has requested the NFL front office to not allocate
home MNF games at RWS, as it might be difficult for him to sell out
the game on a weekday.

Just to answer on the merits (for a change), the reason we got all over TH for his fumbling was that he put the ball on the ground something like nine times in 2002 and we lost six of them, if I recall.
He did better last year but damn he was a fumble machine in 2002. WM isn't even close to that.
I think some of TH's fumbles came at cruciale times in the games and caused
more heartburn. So far WM's fumbles haven't affected the game, hence the
non-bitching.

The 2001 Patriots also had a great D and a real great Special Teams....
and a unknown QB who figured out how to manage a game effectively.
Remember it was Adam Vinateri who won two back to back games in that
playoffs (including the superbowl) for the Patriots.

Perhaps this scenario has been presented. But it is all predicated on the Bills continuing to win.
If the Jets lose and the Broncos lose this weekend, the Bills would be #5 seed and the Jets #6. If both the Bills and Jets continue to win their playoff games, I believe that could pit the Jets against the Bills in RWS for the conference championship. Correct?
As a season ticket holder, it's fun to consider the possibilities.
If the bills r the 5th seed and Jets the 6th seed, here is how the playoffs will
play out for the bills to host the AFC championship game.
1. Jets at SD -- Jets win
2. Bills at Colts -- Bills win
seeds left are 1, 2, 5 and 6. Hence 6 goes to 1 and 5 goes to 2.
3. Jets at Pitt --- Jets win
4. Buf at NE --- Buf win
seeds left are 5 and 6.
5. Jets at Buf -- Buf win goes to the SB....
The way the Jets are playing, I can't see them going and winning at
SD and at Pittsburgh....Remember they lost already once in Pittsburgh.

Lechler does not punt in the swirly winds in RWS, Moorman does for 8 games
in a season....plus Moorman has to punt in other swirling places like
Giant stadium and Gillete field.

The JAX were adamant to not give up this pick on draft day when TD wanted
to jump ahead of Pitt and get big-ben. Damn, they could have got a better
WR...Now I thank that it did not happen and we got the stud WR.
-
Nice post. I don't think Clayton is "obviously" the stud of the WR draft, he's just had more balls thrown his way this year. He looked damn good yesterday, but I've got to dock him some style points for dating MANtasia from American Idol.
I rank the top 5 as such:
1. Lee Evans - gets better every week
2. Larry Fitzgerald - too bad he's on the friggin' Cardinals
3. Roy Williams - injuries hurt
4. Michael Clayton - super-solid
5. Kerry Colbert - 2nd-round steal
Again, Kerry Colbert also got lucky because Steve Smith got hurt and he
got his chance to shine....Mushin Mohammed is going to the probowl from
the panthers...KC got the same deal as Evans got with the bills. He had a
stud WR to take the pressure off.
-
Pit and NE have a bye in the first week and host the divisional championship
games....Colts, if they win the home wild-card game will have to go to
New England.
The 3rd seed team cannot play the 1st seed in the playoffs until the
conference championship game.
-
I'd love for the Jets and Broncos to both lose, and the Bills win. We'd be the 5th seed in the AFC, and three teams would make the playoffs from the AFC East, which is remarkable. It will be nice to see some AFC East stories if this scenario plays out. With 36 wins so far, the AFC East is already showing everyone it is a tough division.
especially after 2 of its teams were 0-4 at the beginning of the season
-
Which brings up a better topic....AFC teams should play their division opponents twice...and then fill the rest of their schedule with other AFC teams. Its ridiculous that we will lose out to Denver when never having a shot at them while I played games against the Rams and 49ers....
That is a good point. May be we should play as follows:
1. 6 games against AFC East opponents
2. 2 games against NFC
3. 4 games against one AFC division
4. 2 games each against the 2 other AFC divisions based on your
previous record.
This way you get to play 14 games in the AFC and then one home and
one away game against NFC opponents...This way the NFL gets the good
cross-rivarly matches but keeps the games meaningful in case of tiebreakers
and allows more intra-conference matchups meaningful...

Let us move on to the aspect of us beating the Steelers at RWS next sunday.
We can then worry about the rest of the games....
1. Can our DEs stop the Run. I have watched quite a bit of the steelers game
here at the Burgh....Bettis has got most of his yards running on the outside.
The DEs have found it hard to tackle him and bottle up. Will Schoebel and
Kelsay be able to stop Bettis on the outside. Remember they struggled
against Rudi Johnson last weekend.
2. Can the D put enough heat on Tommy maddox ? Maddox will be rusty and
also trying to prove to everyone that he can play equally well with the
same OL as Big Ben. Can our defensive backfield cover against both
Hines Ward and Plaxico Burress.
3. On offense, LeBeau is the faster at zone blitzing and hiding his blitzes.
Can Drew Bledsoe take the pressure from the middle and find his receivers.
4. Can McGahee run against the stout front 7 of the steelers...The Steelers are
the #1 against the Run having given up just 82 yards against the Run. Of
course one thing that has helped them is their O has put them up ahead in
most of the games which means teams were running less against them.
The challenge is for MM and Clements to keep the Run game going and to
chew the clock and reduce the game time and keep the ball off the hands of
Bledsoe.
5. Special Teams: How will be stop Randall El? Randal has been one of the
exciting Kickoff and Punt returners in the league and has given his team
great field positions game in/game out. Our covergae teams have to be
provide real tight coverage to avoid this guy from breaking for big gains.
The keys to the game seems to be again, stop Bettis from running wild, get
McGahee going, and play good special teams.

Heard on the local radio that the following players were injured yesterday
o Big Ben ofcourse (Lee Suggs drove him to the ground) and he hurt his
ribs....Even if the MRI comes negative I doubt they play him on the
cold Astro Turf at the Ralph.
o DeShea Townsend, starting CB is out with a broken hand.

Agreed...We expected Jax to beat Houston at home (especially after
the win over GB which gave them momentum) and expected a fading
denver to lose at the Titans...The result of the two games got swapped.
The other two games went the way they were expected to go (Bal losing
to Pittsburgh) and NE beating up the Jets.
So nothing has changed from what we thought would be the case going
into the final week....We still need to win and need some outside help.
So let us enjoy the ride and put a beating on the steelers and hope the
chips fall our way.

and add Winfield to it....He was their prized FA this off-season...They went
out and got a guy who had was already close to signing with the Jets.
Also, they are lucky to be even in the contention at this point...with the
Lions muffing that extra point, the Vikes caught a break
-
Plus Chad Pennington has been stinking up the joint lately....When they needed
wins Chad has not delivered....May be he will crumble next week....

My point was, the guy did not consider the bills/jets as good teams
(not teams with winning records)...so the Pats records against the
Jets/Bills don't count towards the "beating the good teams"....
