1. The question about franchising also arises. Currently, I think the top 5

tackle avg. salary is probably in the 5M to 6M range. If we can sign Pat

Williams to a cap-friendly deal and restructure Moulds, we might just have

sufficient cap space to tag JJ and then work out a new deal. At least then

the advantage goes to the Bills, as they will scare of potential targets like

    Atlanta.

Others who could be considered for some restructuring might be TKO,

    Milloy or MIke WIlliams.

  2. How can anyone be pessimistic in a time like this?  Buffalo has won all these games in a row and actually has a chance at the playoffs, yet i still read negative posts!!  What a weekend they had....Jacksonville unbelievably got shut out, Baltimore lost, the Jets lost, even Monday night football had the Rams winning.  Personally, I'm glad that game is in St.Louis on Sunday, and I think the Rams have a shot at winning it.  Denver isn't really that good, so if we pray that Manning stays in for the first half, I think Indy should beat them!  Just want to thank everyone for their great posts this year, and I know I'm still happy, even if we don't get in.

I am not pessimistic.....I only wish we also had Denver lose out in Tennsesse

then we control our own destiny.

  3. The only time the guys were out of it was in the Baltimore and Foxboro stinkers.

    184196

Even the Baltimore game we had a sack/fumble recovery on the 1st offensive

play of the game deep in Baltimore territory and we couldn't covert it to a TD.

Then Fletcher made that bonehead play that resulted in a TD instead of a punt.

Then in the 4th qtr, we got into their redzone 4 times and came back empty

    handed.....

  4. Bills can beat Indy. Indy has real trouble with stout defenses.

    183062

I think the Bills can beat any of the teams in the playoffs other than NE.

I still think BB has DB's numbers and knows how to get to him.

Colts don't have the ability to put the inside pressure that DB hates and

uncomfortable with most...As long as the D keeps Peyton in check we

should be ok....Indy has 3 excellent receivers in Harrison, Wayne and

Stokley.....which means one of Safeties will always be in coverage and

our CBs will be one on one with Harrison and Wayne...If TV/Milloy and

McGee/Clements can hold their own, then we can get this game.

San Diego is an enigma...We know they are stout against the run, so it

will be in DB's hands to win that game for us. Not sure how their

    interior line plays.

Pittsburgh plays the 3-4 and their linebacks have been overachieving.

In fact even their Nose tackle has been over-achieving. If our OL plays

to its strength we can probably run against them. On D, as long as we

don't blitz every play and over pursue big ben and keep him within the

pocket, we should do ok. What worries me here is our inability to contain

the run on the outside. Both Schoebel and Kelsay have been run over

on the outside this season and that is what Bettis will try to do.

  5. AVP has always been one of my favorite Bills, but honestly he is not that good on the air with John Murphy.  If he can get a coaching gig, he should pursue it, even if it's with an ex-Dolfags coach.

    PTR

    183710

I agree....All players are not always good broadcasters....Van Pelt is

average at best....We need to get a good guy with radio experience doing

    the color commentary.

  6.

Indy is our only hope. Our Obi Wan Kenobi

    182331

Indy is not our hope.....Who is the 2nd string QB for the colts....please...

and the game is in Denver....

St. Louis on the other hand actually has a a shot at the fading Jets who

took a beating in their own backyard against the Patriots.

While the Rams are no New Engalnd Patriots, I think they are quite

    formidable at home.

  7. Does Indy have anything to play for against Denver?  I suppose if they win, they go play a lower seeded team

    182185

As posted by many earlier, Indy can pick and chose their poison for the

    wild-card game.

If the Jets and Bills win the 1 p.m games, then Indy can tank their

game against Denver so that they can have Denver come into their house

    for the wildcard game.

If the Bills win and Jets lose the 1 p.m games, then Indy, if they want to

avoid the bills during the wildcard will have to win against Denver to send

the bills to SD and they get the Jets for the wildcard game.

If the Bills and Jets lose the 1 p.m games, then other things fall in to place

as then Jax get their playoff door opened slightly and thier game against

    Oakland becomes meaningful.

  8. Jets & Rams are the only two teams facing each other that have something to play for. Pitt, Indy, & NE will rest a lot of players and coast.

So... we better hope the Rams can pull off some magic... cuz they ain't better than the Jets... Let's just hope they are for this game... It would be a huge upset... and the NY media will be allover the Jets if they lose.

    183626

The Rams at home are quite formidable. Hope their desparation level is more

    higher than the Jets.

  9. I know 2004 is not over yet, but a POSITIVE if we do not make the playoffs is this:

We have a chance of bringing back the same team as this year - and have some draft choices (2nd through 7th - and possibly more if we trade TH).

Both Pat Williams and Jonus Jennings have expressed their desire to come back to the Bills.

If we resign those two we will have both starting units intact.

    180940

with an extra starting LG to boot.

  10. I was talking about this yesterday with a friend of mine and I was

suggesting that ABC and ESPN should be able to select their game

from week 10 to week17 (for the last 8 weeks) with a 3 week

    window.

Both ABC and ESPN should make their selection 3 weeks in

advance and should be able to select alternatively. For example,

in week 10 ABC should be able to pick only a CBS matchup while

in week 11 it should be able to pick only a FOX matchup. ABC

should be allowed to make at most 3 substitutions a year out of

the 8 weeks so that they don't change just as they please.

  11. The local radios in pittsburgh was reporting that Bettis was

questionable for this week's game against buffalo and Bettis

himself talked and mentioned about a bad ankle and that his

status for the upcoming game was in the air. We will probably

see a huge dose of Vernon Haynes this coming sunday.

Of course the local radio announcer keeps mentioning that the

bills need to win and need Denver to lose without mentioning that

a Jets loss with a bills win gives them a playoff spot...

  12. The Pats are 7-1 against teams with winning records.  We are 2-5.

The Pats are 6-1 against teams with losing records. We are 7-1.

    See the difference?

    180935

My point was, the guy did not consider the bills/jets as good teams

(not teams with winning records)...so the Pats records against the

Jets/Bills don't count towards the "beating the good teams"....

  13. Just so long as it isn't Pittsburgh. Man we seem to suck against them on MNF.

    180928

We have played pretty bad in most of the night games in the recent years

    against the decent teams...

o Loss to NE this year.

o Loss to the Dolphins last year

o Loss to the Colts on MNF a few years ago (RJ ws sacked 7 times)

o 31-0 embarassment to the 49ers in the 1st year under GWs

  14. Buffalo is currently +10 in turnovers, giving the ball away 26 times while taking it away 36!

This is a HUUUUUGE reason why the Bills are knocking on the playoff door. I can't remember the last time the Bills were on the '+' side with turnovers. Anyone?

    NFL Turnover Stats

    180924

Agreed...and that along with STs has shorted the field for the offense to score.

Additionally we have had 9 defensive/special teams TDs this year....That has

to be some sort of record for the bills

  15. Everything you've seen this year is very misleading and basically "smoke and mirrors." ;)

I actually subscribe to the theory that simply having better people in the backfield picking up the blitz has made all the difference in our game, in addition to having a running back who can take a nothing play (and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile). Add to that a level of discipline, and you are suddenly a better team when you are more often 2nd and 5 instead of 1st and 15.

    180642

Also avoiding undiscipline sacks has let us avoid 2nd and long and 3rd and

long situations....That has to go to the OL/Running game for allowins us to

churn and 3 and 4yards on a 1st down play.

  16. Oh I wont insult any other Minny teams....so if the Bills suck, who's good then?  Just NE PITT and everyone else sucks???  ;)  :)  :D

    180914

Who has NE beaten? They lost to Pittsburgh, won against the colts at home

by a last second field goal and then beat teams with losing records and

bad teams like the bills (as viewed by the Vikes Fan)....

  17. Hell, if Cincy could get a Monday night game at home this year with an 8-8 record in 2003, I would think the Bills would be in line for a Monday night game somewhere next season.

But I agree...it'll probably be in New England or in the Jersey swamp.

    180891

I think it is RW who has requested the NFL front office to not allocate

home MNF games at RWS, as it might be difficult for him to sell out

    the game on a weekday.

  18. Just to answer on the merits (for a change), the reason we got all over TH for his fumbling was that he put the ball on the ground something like nine times in 2002 and we lost six of them, if I recall.

He did better last year but damn he was a fumble machine in 2002.  WM isn't even close to that.

    180859

I think some of TH's fumbles came at cruciale times in the games and caused

more heartburn. So far WM's fumbles haven't affected the game, hence the

    non-bitching.
