1. That's an interesting point, but I think that Brad Johnson will be starting next season for the Vikings.

    590439

Only if Culpepper is shipped out to Arizona or Miami....Ot herwise this team

has invested too much in Culpepper to keep him on the bench......

I really like Brad Johnson, if we are not going to commit to JP....

Of course the best would be is to commit to Losman.....and build the offense

    around him....l.

  2. Exactly. We know the guy is doubled constantly, he was even suspended because he complained about it.  Do people really believe Lee Evans would have put up that first quarter if Eric Moulds wasn't such a Dolphin killer in the past? Move past the suspension, because he is a team guy, he just needs a winning team for once. Let him remain the tactician and Lee the deep threat until another option becomes available.

    590875

I would love Moulds to be our starting WR....but he needs to be just that...He

cannot go around deciding who the QB of the team should be.....And he does

need to take a pay cut to help this team build a stronger OL....

  3. Thanks for this precious gem of insight. Or at least, thanks for trying.

But Finknottle brings up a valuable point. When Rob Johnson was here, 1/3 of the locker room wanted him to start, 1/3 wanted Flutie, and 1/3 was neutral. This time around, nobody in the locker room is voicing support for Losman, and quite a few are voicing support for Holcomb. So either Losman isn't as good as Rob Johnson, or Holcomb is better than Flutie.

    590106

That would not be true.....Lee Evans would definitely love JP losman throw the

ball....McGahee was in full support of Losman at the beginning of the season..

The problem was our self-annoited defense that included Milloy, Adams and

Vincent kept thinkinsg that they are the best D and they should go to the

super bowl and got Fletcher and Moulds to buy into that hype....Of course none

of the above mentioned kept their end of the bargain and have the guts to

put all the blame on your starting QB......How nice......True team spirit.....

By bringing in Holcomb we have managed to split this locker room....Something that neither Kitna did or Lewis allowed to do in Cincinnati....Last year when the

bengals started 1-3 or 1-4 they could have easily pulled the rug and put Kitna back

in....but they didn't....and lewis did not allow his veteran players to break the team

over the QB issue....and best of all, Kitna was so gracious and did not start

    a QB controversy.......

I cannot say the same for Holcomb.....He was brought in as a backup and he

should not or have veteran players going begging to the HC to start him or give him a start....(I remember Holcomb mentioned that he deserved to be given

a chance after he won the game against the Dolphins early in the season).....

Bottom line is Mularkey and his veteran players instead of having patience

and faith in their QB gave in so quickly and caused a split in the locker room...

No team has gone to win anything considerable when they are divided....

  4. I really don't know who will win this one, but, I would not be surprised to see Seattle pick off a few if Ben comes out throwing.

I hope Seattle wins, I like their team, their heart, and their coach.  Pittsburgh seems to be more about individuals.

    590710

That is far from the truth......The Pittsburgh steelers are the epitome of

team this year.....From that team aspect several superstars have emerged...

Ben, Polamalu...Jeff Hartings, AlanFaneca, Joey Porter....The reason people

are noticing individuals is because these individuals are dominating games....

  5. Preston does not = Bentley, the best center in football, maybe second only to Jeff Saturday. Center is what it is all about. How many Super Bowls do the Bills go to without Kent Hull? Not four, that's for sure.

    590652

Did you mean Jeff Hartings...because he is the best center in football and is

playing for the Super bowl bound Steelers.....I agree Center is a crucial position

Teague has been an average center...but the problem is with Teague getting

pushed back all the time by the opposing NTs and DTs, the pressure on our

QBs have come right on their face and that has been the demise of Bledsoe

    and so far JPL.....

When you feel the pressure on your face (rather than not knowin where it

is coming from), i think QBs make mistakes....

  6. This is a guy that we need to overpay a little for.....

If we can pick up a OT in the draft.....move Gandy over to Left Guard....Labently at center.....Preston can battle Villy at RG and Peters at Right Tackle

    That would work

    590160

I don't think Peters should be annoited the starter at RT....He has proven

zilch in the running game......Make it a competition between MW and Peters

and make the best guy earn the job.....In this team, there are too many

players comfortable knowing that their job is secure

  7. What a joke, Lee Evans and Roscoe Parrish Vs HINES WARD, Randell El, Heath Miller

    590738

At the beginning of the season, the Steelers had a big question mark at WR...

Everyone here in Steeler Land were calling for cutting Randall El....He couldn't

run a route properly (rings a bell ?)......Heath Miller was a unknown being a

rookie TE.....The only proven receiver was Hines Ward.....Everyone decried

the signing of Cedric Wilsosn from SF....Comparing Plaxico to Wilson was like

    comparing prince to a pauper....

Once the line was solid and was comfortable playing, they gave Ben the time

to throw the ball...he started spreading the ball around (a la Brady)....and both

Wilson and Randall El and Miller have been included in the game plan.....

Bottom line is you need a top line in the 1st place to build your team....

    Superstart WRs come next.....

You are only as good as your Line is...

  8. Might have more to do with who's still unemployed than anything else.  Does Kansas City have a "Buffalo connection" now that they've hired Krumrie and Blackmon?

Both guys seem pretty solid, on paper.  0:)

    589959

Only to buffalo fans.....For us Bills fans, name is the game.....

  9. Watch for the skins to either cut or more than likely try to trade Patrick Ramsey.  If the price were right, I'd like to see Buffalo get him.  He is a tough kid with a strong arm.  Seems like a decent fit in blue collar Buffalo.  His mobility isn't the greatest, so OL repairs would be a must.

    590114

I don't see a big differnece between JP and Ramsey....And with Ramsey riding

the pine for most of his career at Washington, I don't think he is any better

    than JP at this point......

If we want a veteran QB who could win (and not a stop gap like a Holcomb)

we need to bring in a Kerry Collins......But I would rather see us get

JPL ready for next season......and stop having QB controversies again....

Another veteran who could be brought here is Brad Johnson, if the Vikes

    release him...

  10. SB XXVIII - the Bills were up 13-7. I wasn't happy as the Bills didn't try for the endzone on 3rd and 4 (I think) from the 7. Stupid shovel pass to Thomas for no gain. FG - the Cowgirls leave the field with their heads held high, the Bills leave the field with their heads low.

I was there and noticed it immediately.

Marv should have at least TRIED for the TD.

    589581

And then the 1st drive after the break, James Washington returned for TD and the

    game was broke open....

  11. Well, I do know that when Levy first came to Buffalo in the Mid 80's, he (and Polian) turned over at least a dozen players pretty quickly.  If Farrell (haha) really is a cover 2 kind of coach, then it could mean that Buff is about to make some significant turnovers again.  That is not a bad thing.

    589931

They need a Pass Rusher, a interior Linemen, a OLB and probably a CB just

for the starters....Then they need depth at FS and SS, MLB and DEs....If they

get all that, then that will be a big turnaround..l......

What a football season does to a team.....A team that returned 10 of 11 starters

from the previous year and is looking deep down the tube with changes to

at least 5 or 6 positions......

  12. But, because Donahoe was so concerned with his reputation and couldn't admit his failures, we hung onto failures such as Anderson, Reed, Denney, Wire, and most importantly Bledsoe for too long.

    589891

Anderson has played in about 10 games....I think it is too early to call him a bust....

Reed, Denney and Wire have got their oppurtunities over the 4 years they

have been here and can rightly be called busts......

  13. IMHO, the only reason Kelly is a 1st ballot HoF while TT may not be is due to the post-career media obsession....Kelly after retiring remained in the spotlight by

calling games for NBC and then leaving a trail around with his Hunters Hope...

TT all he has done after retiring has got into trouble with drinking etc....

Even though the press guys claim that they don't take these into consideration,

if you read their other articles you know that these guys care about all these

    before they make HoF decisions....

TT should be a 1st ballot HoF....but look at the two guys who he is really

competing against.....Derrick Thomas and Reggie White...Both are going to

get sympathy votes due to the tragic way they passed away....I am not sure

How a Derrick Thomas is a Shoo in...but a TT is not......

  14. I like Holcomb as a back up more than I like Harrington as a back up.  I see Losman as the starter for next year at which time he will be good or he will be gone at the end of the season and we'll be looking for a new qb.  Right now the lines are our problem.

    589587

I want Holcomb strictly as a backup and only to come in durina a injury....Having

tehe starting QB position dangled to both the QBs just creates a controversy and

splits the team....I am not against Holcomb...but he is limited in where he can take this team.....He cannot take this team to the playoffs.....They have to give JP the chance or bring in another veteran like a Kerry Collins and give this team a chance to make the playoffs.

  15. I wondered how long it would take for the Detroit connection to finally come.  First we had the Chicago/Jacksonville connection.  Now we got the Detroit Lions connection.  0:)

    589846

Didn't the Lions finish with the same record.....Since coaching is the biggest

difference maker in this parity driven NFL, shouldn't we be hiring coaches who

    have had success....

  16. Thanks Lori. CV took a huge step backwards in 05, and it is hard to say why. Age? Declining play of Williams? Injuries? Perhaps a combination of all these factors?

    589288

If Peters started at RT for 10 games along side Villarial, why is Villarials demise

    being blamed on Williams.....

Williams was and is our best RT./....When he was in the game, at least

McGahee had some room to run......In the 10 games Peters was at RT,

Willis had 1 100 yard game in the final game (I think).....Now is the lack

of running game in those 10 games attributed to BAD COACHING or

Average talent on the right side ?

  17. I expect him to sign with Houston eventually, especially if Sherman accepts the Texans' offer to be their OC.

Houston has a better upside for burnishing Bate's future HC chances, and a more limited downside than taking the Bills job (if Houston continues to suck, he can blame it on the personnel).  He's probably using the Bills offer as leverage to get more $$$ out of McNair, too.

    588265

I think Sherman is only being considered for the OL coach....Not the OC....

  18. Hey, here's a great idea!  How about we put together some semblance of an offensive line and then let JP Losman play more than 3 games in a row?

    Wouldn't that be swell!!

    588194

And have the coache run a balanced offense and the Defense actually play

    some defense....

  19. Ken Whisenhunt imo is another Mike Mularkey in the making except instead of having to work with the likes of Kordell Stewart or tommy maddox he has the benefit of a great young quaterback in Ben Roethlisberger.

    588430

Actually to be fair to Wisenhunt, he has just started incorporating the trick plays

into his playbook.....Until the middle of this season (includuing the last season)

his playbook was pretty simple....Run the Damn ball.....and control the line of

scrimmage...Get his QB to make the simple throws.....Protect the ball....Play

    SMART Football.......

Once his QB has started to play in his zone, and in sync with WRs/RBs Ken has been

able to add more trick stuff....
