I now think the Bills should look for a TE - either via a trade with Denver or drafting Pettigrew in rd 1. The TO signing means they plan to try and win THIS year. We need a pass catching TE....NOW. (we can give AARON steroids.) -RnJ

Damn math expert!! My wife is POed by the signing but I THINK she's calmed down. I have posted this elsewhere today but my wife and talked about TO yesterday - about how he'd never come to Buffalo because it is "not his kind of town" (in other words, boring but in actuality is possesses something that none of his previous team's has had: Heart. Too bad his contract did not have incentives which included "good behavior" since living in Buffalo might "save" him. His personality has always been completely egocentric but that is not only unusual in WNY but unacceptable. He might...just might.... if he spends some time working with some charities/churches/social groups whatever, learn what the Grinch learned. It may sound corny but this guy is LOST (rich, famous but messed up) Now, I hope he discovers this....but if he ONLY brings a few playoffs games, I will accept that Go Bills RichNJoisy (aka old fart)

OK OK we got Owens...whats next??

I am thinking a little differently now about the draft. Are we all in agreement that the Bills signed TO to try to win games THIS year? If so, drafting a stud DE meets a long term need (and maybe a short term need - the equivocation has to do with how much impact a rookie DE can have on a team's success....typically not much (Peppers aside)) but The other big need is at Tight End. If I were the Bills, I would first see if the rumors about Denver being interested in trading Scheffler were true or not. If true, I'd meet their price. If false, I'd draft Luke Pettigrew. Now, Trent has two good RB's (minus Marshawn's 2-4 game suspension) a good TE two great WR's plus Josh Reed. The risk is that Aaron Schobel can't return to form. worth the risk to try and win 11 games next year. When we beat the Patsies, I say let's tear down the goalposts! Go Bills! -RichNJoisy CNJBBB -
I turn 47 on the 16th and I, too remember the rockpile as a wee one. So I hear you. These past 10 years, however, have been agony. Now, I highly doubt TO will sign with the Bills - someone will simply offer him more. But If the Bills sign him to ONE YEAR deal, he will be playing for pride and next year's big deal (somewhere else). It is the only way I can imagine him being a "good citizen" and playing his butt off in Buffalo. So, yes, a one year deal would be IMO fantastic my 2 cents you "old man"! -RichNJoisy CNJBBB

Source: Bills want to meet with Owens
richNjoisy replied to richNjoisy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think so but, let's face it, in this age of easy internet webpages fake sites abound. Like I said in my original post - which I was forced to rename by the new gestapo here at 2BD - reader beware. I figure only we can figure out through actually making note of people who report things accurately. such as "soprano" source (aka=sucks) -RnJ -

I have never heard of him either but I said, "what the hell..here's the link" As to an earlier poster's comment about (paraphrasing), " TO ending his career in a small town proving his true love of the game", it's strange you should say that since my wife and I sadly agreed that being in Buffalo unlike any other city could actually "save" TO - it's a place where people care about real things and each other. The sort of things that bored the hell of of McGahee. If I signed TO his contract would be filled with incentives not only about staying out of trouble but also with bonuses for community work and "bettering" himself (such as seeing a counselor) It's like someone being incredibly beautiful and actually developing a good personality. The two together are rare. TO is a gifted athlete and a totally sick individual (mentally). oh well,...... -
http://www.salsports.com/BillsTerrellOwens.htm I do not know what to make of this. Do the Bills need a legit #2 WR? Yes Is Jauron under pressure. YES! Does he know it? Maybe. Is TO a BIG change from any other Bills signing you could name. Oh yeh. Gotta say, it interesting but since he is legitimately crazy (I mean, the guy seriously needs to be on MEDS and be seeing a counselor) , I can't see this attempt helping except in the short term...very short term. The Bengals panicked and massively overpaid for Coles. Certainly it is possible Coles will have a 1000 yard and 10 TD season but WR SELDOM have great seasons with a new QB. It takes time . The only massive value he had was with the Fish - fortunately he did not go there. Now, could he have helped the Bills? I think so but not at 7 mil a year or even 6 for four years IMO. What to do? I would look at Toomer . If he can be had cheaply - why not give him a whirl?

Tony Scheffler Is On The Trade Block!
richNjoisy replied to Steely Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Decent TE's are as rare as decent QB's - in the case of TE's most of them are play pro basketball. If the Bills have ANY chance of getting this guy - they should make the attempt. The only thing off the table is a 1st rounder. My God the guy catches over 40 balls at 16+ yards a pop? as a TE???? If this trade rumor is true, I sure hope the Bills are making inquiries. By the way - check out "Rumblings" comments: http://www.buffalorumblings.com/ -
Hardy was indeed drafted to fill the need for a second WR but he tore his ACL and his return to action from such an injury (it occurred in December) will be severely impacted. He may be available for Training Camp but you don't get back fully from this type of injury in much less than 1 year. Also, he simply was not a big factor when healthy last year. This is not surprising for a rookie but Coles represents an immediate upgrade - at least so the thinking goes. He caught 70 passes last year with 7 TDs with 850 yards receiving. Although he YPC has dropped a bit in the past few years, as a #2 receiver on the Bills he would definitely take some pressure off of Lee. I agree with you about Reed - he played great last year. Johnson is a big unknown in my opinion. I am FOR the siging of Coles.

I am getting ready for a 7 am flight to Florida tomorrow - I am stopping in at the panthers game (I just bought tickets!) so I am thrilled they awoke last night too bad I, too, only made it to the 3-1 point and went to bed. Go Swordsmen!

I had no idea it was this bad!!!

Welllllllll I am glad to hear he's good in practice. Rob Johnson was good there too I hear -
Hmmm. Is it not true that one cannot own an NFL team if one also owns an NHL team in a market that has a pro football team? This was the issue Jacobs had (I think he owns the Bruins?). Could Golisano be positioning himself to buy the Bills?

Ummmm, Ralph is GUARANTEED $87 Million for the games. Regardless of how well the games sell in actuality. This is more than he gets for complete sellouts by a good margin at The Ralph. In some ways, you could look as this as a good thing - if they can't sell the games in Toronto but they sellout on Buffalo, maybe they should stay in Buffalo? In any event, this is a done deal for the next 4 years (or is it 5?) As to the blackout question - yes, I do think the games will be blacked out in Buffalo if there is no sellout but people need to look into this. There is a 90-mile rule I think but this is a different COUNTRY for goodness sake! I doubt Rogers will allow this to happen anyway. He will give the tickets away like he did in the pre-season. That's my prediction anyway.

Mr T, The stats tell only part of the story - YES - The Bills are not putting up huge rushing numbers. But the Bills are winning. Why? yes, Trent is the reason but the league - so far - has decided to put 7-8 "in the box" quite a lot, forcing the Bills to either run into this wall (which they ARE trying anyway) or to throw the ball - which they are doing VERY successfully. The fact that Trent is now allowed to audiblize at the line of scrimmage, he is taking advantage of the defenses he has faced. I can see a time in the the near future where team can simply not put so many guys in the box and expect to stop Trent. When that happens, the Bills run game will reap the benefits of this change. BTE - I have not checked this but i THINK the Bills average rush per attempt has gone up late in the games they have played as opposing defenses adjust to having Trent rip them apart early on.

Well Peter King picks the Rams...
richNjoisy replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oakland, as it turned out, was the Bills "trap" game. Surviving a trap game almost guarantees a stellar effort the following week. That, plus the fact that: The Rams stink, Peters can't play worse, the weather will finally be good, the crowd will quickly turn hostile (I expect to see some early "Bag" head in the crowd), and Jauron is a good coach who will use last Sunday to make his point....all these point to a blowout victory Bills 37 - Rams 17, -
To all those who said Peters would be ready to play
richNjoisy replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
or worse: Do we wait until Trent is injured from another blindside hit? Too bad Jason can't play RT - at least Trent could see the guy coming...... -
BILLS INJURY UPDATE: Terrence McGee did not practice Wednesday due to a stiff back. Hearing coach Jauron describe it McGee injury doesn't sound as if it will keep him out of Sunday's game. "It's a soft tissue injury," said Jauron. "It was still stiff today so we kept him off it. We're very optimistic about that for Sunday." Roscoe Parrish was limited in practice Wednesday with a sore knee.
