Sammy Watkins Vs. Ohio State
Wayne Cubed replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For the record, you came after me. For the record, I realize this is a Sammy Wakins thread, hence my original comment and also I can read. For the record, you decided to comment back on what I wrote. For the record, I don't consider Bucky Brooks some nobody. For the record, I never said that you said Sammy wasn't good, I was simply pointing out that it is possible for a WR to succeed because, surprise surprise a couple of great QB's do pass short passes, like what was in the video. For the record, you decided to throw out the insult. And finally, for the record, I don't hear anyone laughing, in fact one poster agreed with me. But I suppose you'll chalk that up to him not knowing anything about football. -
Cost of Watkins = Typical Media Bias against Buffalo
Wayne Cubed replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How is it that you say there is no guarantee that Watkins will work out, but then suggest that Ebron would help EJ develop? Wouldn't Watkins help EJ develop? And considering Watkins > Ebron, isn't it more likely that Watkins has a greater chance of helping EJ develop. Watkins is considered far far far better than Ebron, you suggest just staying at 9 and picking Ebron. What if Ebron doesn't work out, just another wasted 1st rd pick, no? -

If the Bills finish at 6-10 or 7-9, even if they had their pick in 2015, they wouldn't be in a position to draft a "franchise QB." If this past year is any indication it wouldn't put them anywhere nearer to the top of the draft. If there is a "franchise guy" or 2, they would likely go 1,2. Sorry, but the Bills wouldn't be able to move that high. First the team picking 1 or 2 would probably want that QB for themselves. Second, if that team didn't want a QB and was willing to trade, I'm sure there would be teams closer to 1, 2 looking for a QB that could offer a better trade, i.e. meaning team picking at 1 could move to 3 or 4, let's say, instead of 9. -
Sammy Watkins Vs. Ohio State

Wow, you continue to amaze me, so now we are only counting TD's as passes thrown, thats interesting... All this you've dog up, prove absolutely squat, except maybe that his TD passes aren't screens. So what does that mean? Well could mean a lot of things, like for example when the field get's compressed or as you get closer to the goal line defenses get compressed. There's more guys near the line of scrimmage. You know what that means? Screens are less effective. How many of his TD throw's were near the goal line where a screen wouldn't be an option? Second, you used an absolute tiny sample size. His TD passes. Peyton threw 659 passes last year. For his career he's thrown 64,964 and you choose 100 passes to make your case. Brilliant. And third, I said Peyton made his career on dink and dunk. I've never said he made his career on screens, you said: To which I pointed to you one WR screen, last season, that went for a TD. And then I pointed to articles showing how actually WR screens were very important to Peytons game. In fact here's an interesting stat for you. Peyton threw 575 yards last year for screens, now that's only 10% of his total yards thrown. But, of that 575 yards guess how many were from WR screens? 406 yards. Or almost 71%. Which by the way, lead the league. Anyways, I'll go back to "not knowing football." EDIT: Oh and BTW, EJ Manuel finished last in the league in screen yards thrown. -

Judy Batista is an NFL.com writer who's working the owners meeting. I think it's fair to assume the sale of the Bills is being discussed a bit. -
Sammy Watkins Vs. Ohio State
Wayne Cubed replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow, ok. Seriously? Did you click the links? Obviously not. I mean gee, why would 2 different writers, one who is a respected scout in Bucky Brooks, who both say Peyton (BTW it's P-E-Y-T-O-N, because you can't seem to spell) used WR screens A LOT in his career. So yea, that would suggest WR screens were a part of why he was/is a successful QB. I think it's yourself that knows very little about football and apparently can't be asked to read. You know nothing about football. -

May I suggest reading this? First game of last season, 78 yard TD by Thomas, off of a WR screen. http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2013/11/6/5073860/peyton-manning-denver-broncos-offense-routes Edit: Also this article talks specifically about how much he used to run the screen in Indy and would be doing the same in Denver. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000058566/printable/peyton-manning-will-run-familiar-schemes-with-denver-broncos -
Sammy Watkins Vs. Ohio State
Wayne Cubed replied to buffalover4life's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm still don't get why fans would be upset that he caught balls at the line of scrimmage and turned them into 10-15 yards. That's moving the ball. That's first downs. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have made their careers on dink and dunk. I get that everyone love's the big plays but they just don't happen all that often and teams need to take what they are given by the defense. 10 yard cushion from the CB? Ok I'll throw it to my playmaker and trust that he can probably beat that 1 guy maybe he'll beat the safety too. -

The full quotes from this are not nearly as bad as the Tim Graham article makes them out to be. Good on TG to pick specific quotes out of context to stir up Buffalo faithful. -
Well look at the Cincinnati Bengals: Andy Dalton, average on his best days. But give him AJ Green and all of a sudden the Bengals offense is a threat at anytime. Add to that a very good defense and you have yourself a playoff caliber team in a very tough division. Same logic can be applied to the Bills. We may not know if EJ is very good or not but if Sammy can do what AJ does in Cincy, that changes the whole offense.

Don Esmonde article about new ownership
Wayne Cubed replied to vegas55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm pretty sure the NFL doesn't allow more than $200 million in financing, when purchasing a new team, for the exact reason you are stating. They don't want a team to be purchased and then assume a load of debt where the owner can't keep up and the team is sold again because of it. The majority of the team needs to paid for in cash. The NFL wants stability, for that same reason businesses can't purchase teams. -
Mayock's take on EJ Manuel
Wayne Cubed replied to Solomon Grundy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's an interesting take, considering that's what every single player who has ever played or will play the game is playing for. Isn't winning Super Bowls the whole point? Ask Jim Kelly or Dan Marino and I guarantee they regret not winning one. -
So because the Bills don't know if EJ is a franchise QB and they came off a 6-10 season, they should just wallow in their own self pity? No need to acquire talent at other positions or take risks at improving the team with elite talent. It's funny, but the Bills of the past would go out and get "elite" talent in the 3rd year of a rebuild (Mario Williams, TO, etc.). Make a big splash. But they do it in year 2 of a build and it's considered too risky.

RD1, Pick #4: WR Sammy Watkins - Clemson
Wayne Cubed replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Or at the very least researched why he was catching so many balls behind the LOS. Which is a pretty simple answer. Because press coverage, which is how defenses covered Waktins his freshman year, wasn't working. He'd blow past it. Hence cover 2 and 3 and giving him a cushion. And the offense smartly said, "Ok, if you're going to give us 5 yards every time, we'll take it".
