Seriously? Did you watch any of them play? Geno Smith? Brian Hoyer? -

Brian Hoyer. Josh McCown. Geno Smith. Blake Bortles Kirk Cousins/RGIII All played much much worse. -
True cost of Bills' Watkins trade
Wayne Cubed replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Convenient that the quote came right before the Eagles played the Giants as well. I'll also add, why didn't he say it the first time the Eagles played the Giants in week 6. Oh that's right because OBJ only had about 60 yards in 2 games at that point. It's a hindsight compliment and I agree, I doubt the Eagles had him #1 WR. -
Head Coach Candidate: Darrell Bevell
Wayne Cubed replied to LA Grant's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Very good read, some takeways: -Bevell is adaptable, willing to change offense based on talent. -Run first guy -Basic route tree for WR but multiple formations to confuse defense. -doesn't ask guys to do things that don't play to their strengths. Example, doesn't ask Russell Wilson to throw over the middle very much because he's shorter and it's hard to see over the big guys. -
Bills GM wants next coach to revive EJ Manuel
Wayne Cubed replied to Joaquin1119's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So the eye test... As far as getting better as the season went along. his 3 worst games happened in the last 5 games. He was very bad against St. Louis week 13, very very bad against KC week 15 and just plain bad against Denver week 17. You can point to "what you saw" but I saw a very bad Derek Carr in those weeks. Does he show promise? Sure, add some more weapons and see what happens. I'm no EJ fan, was merely arguing the terms in which the poster described why EJ wasn't very good. -

So by that metric Derek Carr must be pretty bad too and probably worse. He's thrown 600 passes completed 58% and has an even lower YPA at 5.4 and yet people are excited about him. -
What if our new coach is worse than Marrone?
Wayne Cubed replied to OCinBuffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
C'mon really? The Buffalo media forced out Doug Marrone? Why, cause they questioned his "signature" win against Green Bay? Whats so wrong with that? Look at the game: The Bills offense, which Doug freely admitted was his, didn't score a single TD. The offense put up a total of 253 yards against, what was at the time, a defense in the bottom third of the league. They were 0/2 in the redzone and 0/1 in goal to go situations. They had a total of 13 first downs compared to GB's 21! So what's wrong with questioning if Doug is really the best man for the job? I mean the following week, against a team that they should of beat, the offense went out again and literally crapped the bed. Does Doug deserve credit for hiring Pettine/Schwartz? Of course he does. Does he deserve any credit for the defensive game planning and calls made during the season. No. He deserves zero credit for that. The guy didn't know Jerry Hughes had been benched! Maybe some fans are saying Doug was the worst coach, ever. It certainly isn't me. IMO he was "ok" but I see nothing wrong with questioning whether he is the best guy for the job. Getting to 9-7 shouldn't be the barometer for success, especially since 1 win came against a Pats* team resting starters. Would I have been happy at 9-7 if you told me that in training camp? Sure, that's about where I had them pegged but as the season went along it was obvious to most observers this team was better than 9-7. In that sense, Doug failed. He played not to lose so he could get his winning season and pad his resume. And I don't blame him for opting out. It made sense for him. -

So point Whaley in the direction of where he could have found a QB on his first shot. -

Which current coaches in the NFL or personnel have shared Marrones opinion of Manuel? -
Bills GM wants next coach to revive EJ Manuel
Wayne Cubed replied to Joaquin1119's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe it says he wasn't willing to risk his career on essentially a rookie QB. What coach would? You think Gus Bradley or Mike Zimmer would stake their careers on the play of their rookie QBs? Maybe, because they are probably better men but maybe not if given the chance to pick up a steady veteran QB. -
Bills GM wants next coach to revive EJ Manuel

He couldn't convince Marrone. A guy coaching for his next job. In my mind, with what we now know, that doesn't say much about his evaluation of Mnauel. When Ralph died, that clause kicked in. It was a way for Marrone to move on and he wasn't willing to take the gamble of developing Manuel. Look at Carr, look at Bridgwater, look at Bortle, they were all allowed to play and make tons of mistakes. -

Sort of except the Bills don't have the running game. I think what most posters are saying is at this point Manuel is the only real option even knowing the FA QBs. Would it be a good idea to bring in one of those guys? Of course. Bring em in to compete. And draft a guy too. But you can't count on any of them being any better than EJ and I know that's not saying much. The trade for a QB could happen, it also might not happen. If The new coach of the Bears likes Cutler, he isn't going anywhere. -

Bradford isn't a FA so cross him off your list. What have Hoyer and Sanchez done that make them far and away better choices? They are no better than Orton and still don't solve the QB problem. -
Bills GM wants next coach to revive EJ Manuel
Wayne Cubed replied to Joaquin1119's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whaley is not demanding that the new coach start and play EJ. He is simple saying that he is here and he could possibly still be developed because he didn't get a good opportunity to develop under Marrone. There is no forcing Manuel on any one. And it's almost like a good test question for the candidates. It's like asking "What can you do with young talent?" In the end Manuel might be the best option for the Bills next year. The free agent QB market this year is like going dumpster diving. As far as trades going, another team has to be willing to trade. So while names like Cutler and Bradford(who I would like) get thrown around there is no gurantee the Bills can get them. -
I liked Beckham as a prospect but was a bit weary of his size. I know guys his size can be #1 receivers (Antonio Brown) but I always think about injuries and guys of that size. Add that Beckham was out the first 4 weeks with hamstring problems and I definitely didn't think he'd have the season he had. I agree the Giants made an obvious effort to put the ball in the hands of their play maker. The Bills made no such effort.

Carucci's update on coaching search
Wayne Cubed replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I thought EJ should have been benched and have doubts about him. Saying that, there is reason to believe another coach may be able to get something out of him. What do we know about what Marrone was telling Manuel? He was telling him: To run out of bounds. Don't take risks. Don't turn the ball over. Play safe. And if what Marrones former colleague was saying is true, that he thinks about his next job as soon as he is hired, there's no way he would put the time in to even develop Manuel. -
Carucci's update on coaching search
Wayne Cubed replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Currently, Manuel is the only QB the Bills have. it only makes sense for Whaley to talk him up. I mean it wouldn't really be selling the job if he said, "Hey. we have no QBs on the team, what are you going to do?" -
Package Deal? (Mike & Kyle Shanahan)
Wayne Cubed replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Where is it being reported that only Terry Pegula is doing the interviewing? Everything I read is saying that Terry is involved. Why the hell would Terry be going around, with Brandon presumably, making football decisions without anyone who has any knowledge of football? That would be an absolutely horrible scenario, if that's what's happening, which is what this is kind of implying. This raises way to many questions and is highly unlikely if you ask me. "Yea, Doug we are going to keep you around as we search for your replacement and hope you don't find out." -
It doesn't sting at all. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHO THE BEST WR IS AND ARE ACTING LIKE YOU DO. Why don't you get that? I post a player that completely destroys your theory on Beckham. Great from day one? His first 3 games he averaged 35 yards per game. Looks awesome. Randy Moss averaged 74 YPG, Again, wrong.

A serious question, why the faith in Whaley?
Wayne Cubed replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This doesn't make a lot of sense either. So you bring a vet, that vet right off the bat most likely is the starter. He probably beats out the younger guys and lets face it gives the team the best chance to win. Especially if you are talking about taking QB's in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. So that means EJ is gone. Going into seasons 2 you have the vet, Hundley and some other draft choice. Who wins that one? Maybe Hundley, but how do you know what you have in him and how long do you give him to figure it out? If you give him the year and he doesn't show anything, do you get rid of him or the vet? What if Moore wins out again, now you've got 2 draft picks not even seeing the field, surely thats a waste of resources. -
Yea, that never happens. Robert Griffin III says hi. Offensive rookie of the year, highest QB rating ever by a rookie QB, led the NFL in YPA in 2012 and has the highest YPA for a rookie QB, 2nd highest completion percentage for a rookie QB. Look at him now. I'm pretty sure he's being fitted as I type this for his gold jacket.

A serious question, why the faith in Whaley?
Wayne Cubed replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Again, how will you know if you have found a QB? Whats the benchmark? They look good in year one? What if they suck after that? Lot of the great QB's weren't good right away. What if they suck right off the bat and their reps get cut down? Only so many reps according to the CBA. So how do you split the reps? How do you create rhythm and continuity in the offense? This theory cause more problems than it solves.
