NFL networks coverage of Michael Sam

I wasn't suggesting you were one of the people getting the warm fuzziness, just explaining my POV as someone bothered by the situation. -

This whole thing really bothers me. Not the part about a gay guy playing football, but the part where everyone grandstands and takes the opportunity to show what a great person they are because they get the warm fuzziness over it. I hate pretentious and disingenuous bull ****. The problem is that pop-culture media always takes these things (anything that involves an -ism) too far. Case in point: Player suspended for tweeting "OMG" and "horrible". -
So to be clear, these are Nigerian girls? If that's the case, how did they become" our" girls? Is it because of what LABF said? If so I'll go on record as finding every upper class pampered American holding one of those signs to be a pompous, self-serving, sanctimonious ass hole. Here's my message: when you pussies finish your "look at me" campaign, how about doing something that really will help people like getting together for a mass suicide. #Noonewillmissyou.

What's the story behind this? Who are "our" girls?

next big name to get cut or traded

Ha, come to think of it that is something I would do, but this wasn't one of those times. -

People kissing noisily in public hurts me. So do people chewing with their mouths open. It's extremely unpleasant, it's beyond my control, and it's physiological. It's borderline torture at times. -

Cost of Watkins = Typical Media Bias against Buffalo
Rob's House replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bottom line is we spent 2 first round picks to upgrade from Stevie Johnson to Sammy Watkins. There could be very good reasons for it, but on paper it hardly looks like a no-brainer. It's not surprising the media (most of whom aren't biased against, or even give half a **** about the Bills) aren't gushing over the move. How many of you were hoping we'd trade next year's 1st to move up for Watkins before you heard it announced? -

I haven't been following your quarrel with D48579 so I don't know the context, but I see nothing wrong with someone not wanting to see the pic you put up. -

This is where the Sam crowd loses me. I agree that if a gay guy is good enough to play he should be able to play without being harassed more than anyone else, but comparing him to Jackie Robinson is so beyond the pale, I'd say it's borderline offensive. -

Why do YOU think the Bills will finish below .500?
Rob's House replied to ThurmasThoman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, he was awesome. Threw a lot of INTs early in the year, but he started 16 games, threw for almost 3800 yds, 26 TDs, and that was when 4000 passing yds was elite territory. Peyton Manning is an extremely poor example to support the point you're trying to make. -

All 3 branches are expected to make that determination to the best of their ability, and it usually isn't that hard to distinguish. Unfortunately we let 9 unaccountable judges determine (a power the judiciary granted itself, I might add.) what we acknowledge as constitutional regardless of whether it's true. If a clear reading of the constitution doesn't provide the answer, then one must interpret from the framework how best the constitution would apply. For example, one must interpret what is meant by "probable cause" or "unreasonable search and seizure" whereas "must originate in the house" requires no interpretation.

It sounded like you were going down a 14th amendment path which was more interesting than the 1st amendment bit. There would still be hurdles to winning the argument on that ground, but certainly stronger footing than the first. Maybe a blend of the two- 14th imposes 1st on state via selective incorporation (issues w/ applying it to municipality, but maybe) and then back to the 14th for the discrimination argument (equal protection). You might have something there. There's the amendment process and there's interpretation of ambiguous language. Then there's judicial activism where "interpretation" is used where the amendment process is proper but not politically convenient.

I'm not religious and I see a big problem with this. The movement to keep prayer and religious teachings out of the schools is based on the concept that the first amendment prohibits the government from advancing religion and as a government run entity the schools are prohibited from doing these things. (This interpretation requires a deliberate misreading of the constitution, but that's another discussion). Since the constitution expressly prohibits government from restricting the free exercise of religion, this is a much clearer violation of the first amendment than a school prayer, Christmas play, or nativity scene. Not to mention this amounts to banning books. Any intellectually consistent liberal should be outraged.

They're not breaking any laws. The point is that this contrived system (That IMO has more to do with appearing compassionate and allowing us to feel good about leading self-serving lives while otherwise turning a blind eye to those in need) all too often leaves the needy out in the cold while catering to the lazy, the not so needy, the rich, and corporations with campaign contribution budgets. It's a scam shrouded in charity. Relatives (by marriage)

I know a woman right now who's in her late 50s, makes $9/hr, Is one of the few who needs and wants health insurance, falls in the insurance gap, and is now being priced out of the market. She can't get public assistance for housing or food stamps b/c her $9/hr disqualifies her, and only scrapes by because her daughter is able to give her a little extra to help her get by. I know another guy in his late 50s who can't take care of himself and can't get assistance because he was convicted of a felony years ago, and is likely to die in the streets. Then I know children of millionaires in their late 20s getting subsidized law school educations with subsidized health care; and I know able bodied 20 somethings that don't do **** except for lie around smoking pot, getting their kitty pounded, and popping out future criminals (that they give the most dumbass names imaginable) and they get subsidized housing, Medicaid, food stamps, and even cash. This is Obama's miraculously successful welfare state.

I've been away for a while, but I'm reminded of why JA chastises us for engaging gatorboy. He's either a troll (my guess - maybe an alt profile one of you guys use to get a rise out of people) or he's so blindly partisan he's incapable of rational thought. But it's not possible for someone to have enough intelligence to understand the issues, even to the minimal extent he does, and still find his arguments reasonable. It's just not possible.
