  1. This point seems to be completely ignored. Not to absolve Rex completely, but fans seem to cling to one data point (the defense performed better last year) while ignoring the equally persuasive point that Rex's defenses have consistently outperformed this one. Personally, I attribute the decline to a number of factors - scheme fit, personnel changes, and injuries are all significant. But if this board has taught me anything it's that once fans have their scapegoat they're going to run with it and trying to disuade many or most of them is like trying to take a bone away from a rabid Rottweiler.
  2. If only there were a low-cost veteran with leadership qualities that the players respected who was available to us.
  3. Anyone else think Shady's a pretty stupid nickname?
  4. One interesting point of note is how quickly many players from those teams found themselves out of the league.
  5. Not to be homophobic, but I always found him a little creepy after he kissed Kordell Stewart on the sideline.
  6. The Legend of Doug Whaley > The Legend of Kiko Alonzo. He's had his moments, taken some risks, and made a lot of the kind of moves we as fans have wanted to see for a while, but he's done nothing worthy of the praise he gets from the fans (or at least a sizeable chunk of the fan base.) The extent to which people go to defend him is amusing too. I get that Rex has been a disappointment, but to hear some of you talk one would think he'd taken over a dominating squad rather than a glorified .500 team.
  7. I'd prefer a win, but I'd also like the Foreskins to win the NFCE, so I'm not that concerned about it.
  8. Oh. Never mind then. Mods, please delete this thread.
  9. I heard him on Adam Carolla. Sounds pretty good. Why not?
  10. Ditto. Despite my overriding feelings of apathy, I think we will be better next year. I know everyone's down on Rex because the D took a step backward, but the guy has coached consistently good defenses for many years. I'm confident that with a year in the system and a few roster tweaks we'll be fine. My biggest concern is Tyrod. I love his deep ball, leadership, and scrambling ability, and also the way he protects the football, but unless he can improve on his short and intermediate passing we'll have a tough time winning consistently. Those passes are important for picking up 3rd downs and executing 2 minute drills. If he gets that down I think we dominate. If not we'll be fighting for 9 wins.
  11. Why do I have to go against FC in the first round? This is bull ****.
  12. This is kind of where I am. Whenever I suggest I'm losing interest because of the boxingesque officiating, some skeptic insistss that I'll keep watching anyway. But over the last few weeks I've barely watched football. Not out of protest, I just don't find it as entertaining as I once did. I'd say on average every 4th game I watch either turns on, or is heavily influenced by the officiating - particularly wrt the discretionary calls.
  13. No, but he'll be a !@#$ing weirdo.
  14. Not in the way you're suggesting. You don't get credit for close games or building a roster that looks good on paper. You get credit based on whether your team wins or loses. If you have the hardest schedule in the NFL and go 8-8 that might be marginally more impressive than going 8-8 against the easiest, but success, not Madden ratings, is the measuring stick.
  15. This is juvenile. "Coaching" is this year's "play calling".
  16. I can't find much fault with this piece. McCoy's behavior has been immature at best. I find it odd that grown men are defending him.
  17. I'm not offended by it. I just think it's bizarre and kind of pathetic.
  18. It is entirely true. You don't get a pass because fans think your roster is better than it is. You get judged on performance. And when you hire a team and a coaching staff you are responsible for the results.
  19. If course he wouldn't; he's an islamophile. But that's not really the point. You said you didn't know a single Dem that would get behind what Trump said. But I doubt you know many that would get behind a candidate who opposed gay marriage. But yall got behind Obama when he did.
  20. I didn't say you could only look at those wins and losses in a vacuum without regard to context. A boxer is judged on wins and losses too, but that doesn't mean you ignore the quality of competition.
  21. If Obama had said it I'm sure you guys would have found a way to put it in an understandable context.
  22. Given the situation yes. Last year NE gifted us the ninth win after losing a game that mattered against the 3-13 Raiders. This year we got to play the two worst divisions in football in the NFC East and AFC South. That's after having plenty of high draft picks and cap space to play with. So yeah, I think it's average.
