what do you think elite means? he had a special pinned "column" because he had something none of us do: access. he was "elite" in that he had information and not opinion. Do they deserve "elite" status? yes, because they've troubled themselves to provide access. They are de facto experts in a sea of ignorant children just screaming into the wind.
-
I am being sarcastic. Fools that use words like "elite" as a negative are petty jealous jackholes. Also they tend not to actually know what the word elite means.
-
intelligence? oh sure. but they also have access. Wawrow speaking with Edwards allows him to make points that deserve to be heard. Now in my areas I'm a smart dude. I've published, I've presented at academic conferences, you want to talk music or movies? come to me. But I don't talk to the Bills. My information, like 99.9% of this board, comes from drunkenly yelling at my TV while sitting comfortably in my recliner. On top of everything else (TOS, common courtesy, etc) the fact they have access to something we do not needs to be respected. If nothing else it makes no sense to chase off the people who are honestly plugged it out of petty nonsense. And not to offend anyone, but saying the word "elite" as a negative (esp in terms of a sportswriter of all things) just makes one an ignorant retard. being brilliant is something to aspire to, not to be harassed for. Keeps us, as a whole, crippled by mediocrity.

elite, yeah, like that's a bad thing. A handful of people who dedicate their lives to the study, analysis, and documentation of the thing that we obsess over enough to come to this site? let's piss on that. informed opinion is for east coast ivory tower jackoffs. How dare people be good/respected at their chosen professions? How dare those who donate their professional services for no charge not want to subject themselves to constant abuse from a litany of jealous and irrational lunkheads?

well thanks, it's also the slow part of the year...bills frustrations with nothing to let loose on. but there are also an contingent of jerks that makes meaningful discourse impossible. There has certainly been an increase in trolling/random fools out to annoy/those who just want to scream their opinion as fact as opposed to hearing other view points. I say it's healthy to identify problems with the site like this. Call out the jerks, put them on notice, and away we go into the promised land of polite sports conversation.

the poster was being a jerk in flagrant disregard to TOS in a thread about being a jerk in flagrant disregard to TOS. Sometime you have got to use some sense and realize in irony may not read. And people in these parts tend not to really appreciate unrepentant dickishness under the guise of Russert. it would like be coming up with the user handle Jim Kelly is a rapist. it's ironic, because he only raped records. sometimes you have to just be respectful and understand there is a time and place for everything. The Russert post would work in the context of a thread that reflected the flippancy of ironic caricature. In this context? Not so much.

right, if not for Lori we could insult each other incessantly while pissing over the memory of civic icons

Though wise men at their end know dark is right even Dylan Thomas knows the idiots will win. Sidenote: this may be the first time graduate school has been useful in any way

AH! I was just thinking the exact same thing.

the guy who invented bourbon? the popular nickname for institutionalized racial segregation?

Any Diamond experts here? I need to sell one

I know you don't want sympathy--but I ended my engagement about 2-3 weeks ago (also a terrible story I don't want told). I got the ring back and promptly sold it for $750. Bought it for $2250 about 8 or so months ago. I used that money to stay drunk for a week. Also bought a shirt at Target and Halloween on blu ray...but that's neither here nor there. Let me just say I (sort of) know where you are coming from and unloading the ring, regardless of price, is immensely satisfying. -
well if paying ESPN $2.95/mo doesn't entitle you to love I don't know what will

John Rambo did it in Rambo 3 and all he got was a hut in Burma. Does that seem fair?

Now admit The Pacific is historically accurate

Is it douchier to yell at a cashier over something they have no control over or to expect a decent pie from Pizza Hut? Is that a thread? I think that can be a thread.
-
no, but then I'm not a douchebag...so I kind of doubt that will ever happen. here's the rub: you did not make Tim Graham leave. I can not imagine anyone thinking you are solely responsible for Tim Graham leaving. However you did supply the one-comment-too-many that robbed many of us of an important point of view that distinguishes TBD from the other forums. You were in the wrong. Own it. Don't just write 500 words saying he's too sensitive. You crossed the line. Once. Just cop to it. Take responsibility and move on.

....oh, that didn't help at all.

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermo...wsitemID=139410 Led Zeppelin cover band while Jason Bonham baby pictures are projected? Tell me that's not worth money. In defense: I saw him do roughly the same thing (sans masturbatory element of home movies) in like 1995 and thought it was pretty great. But then I was in High School and also thought Cheech and Chong were pretty great.
-
childish to argue about childishness? Tom, you just blew my mind
-
Right....nothing more childish than arguing about the role of decorum and respect in an anonymous/public forum. Clearly this thread is not nearly as intelligent as the Wang=name for penis thread

Oh, of course. Roger Waters isn't bothering with promotion. That's a given. Whoever did it--and it was part of the promotion for the new Roger Waters tour--probably did not know the significance of the wall. The defacement was easily removed....the wall is back to being a wall. primarily I get a kick out of how fast these conspiracy theories rise up. As if Roger Waters has some long simmering beef with Elliot Smith. But yeah man, his advertising agency put Roger Waters advertising on an unofficial shrine. he's going to get some blowback. The kids can't shake their fists at the street team.
-
http://blogs.laweekly.com/westcoastsound/a...iott-smith-mur/ So apparently the Roger waters street team screwed up the unofficial Elliot Smith wall. Minor deal (coming from a guy who despises Pink Floyd and adores Elliot Smith) but man, for a good time read the venom coming out of the comment section. The cool kids get real angry real quick these days

It's sad that informed opinion has become both devalued and resented. Hazards of an open and democratic internet is any knucklehead with a keyboard thinks they have an opinion worth hearing. Add that to anonymity and you get a pile of idiots spouting off their nonsense as fact. Unfortunately that lunacy chasing the smart people away. But in defense of TBD, this is easily the calmest and most respectful board I've ever been on. I think we can agree that the world of sports fans includes a disproportionate amount of aggressive d-bags. Have you been to Billszone? It's like those guys enjoy being constantly enraged. It's a drag we had to chase the informed away--frankly the opinions of armchair Madden nerds mean absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. remember that flurry of Cowher sightings at Buffalo area airports? personally I appreciate journalistic insight more than the ravings of some meatball who creamed himself after seeing a middle aged man in a mustache. Some good will surely come of all this. I can see lower tolerance for rudeness or maybe even a general dialing down of the occasionally abusive rhetoric. People may relax a little, be more respectful of differing opinion (unless said opinions involve Edwards or Vick---ain't no reason there). Of course that all goes away once Buffalo gets off to an 0-9 start and this because the virtual Escape From New York that is most other sports forums.

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/36696093/ns/...ent-television/ all comedy central. Matt and Trey were more amused by the threats than anything. Jon Stewart did a pretty great 10 minute rant on it last week
