  1. That ok Rob I think the Same of Tom and you and your ilk
  2. nice BF quote but if true wouldn't all the places with brutal poverty in Africa, South America, Asia places that have had the poorest of the poor for generations, poor that received no help even when turned into living skeletons wouldn't all these people be rich by now and wouldn't all the Scandinavian countries with all their safety nets for generations have massive amounts of poor.
  3. yeah but you know why that was an important question- as the argument from the right side was why the !@#$ do you care about some one doing a lot better as long as you're doing somewhat better? so one of the questions being raised is are people doing better and personally I think that should mean as compared to our parents since I don't think it's particularly relative to peoples mood that they compare their lot to people of bygone eras . was just looking at this chart I'd like to find a chart that went from 1973-2012 but this one isn't bad and hey look everyone is making gains - but that is only true if you believe that government inflation figures are actually reflective of reality- if you believe like me that inflation has been understated by 1-2% since the 1980s you get a different picture were the bottom 20% has actually lost ground and the next 40% have barely broken even.
  4. well since that was my first comment in this discussion I think you're being a little harsh- you should wait for me to make a few more comments unless you are going for an air of prescience over discernment.
  5. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/10/us/booz-allen-grew-rich-on-government-contracts.html?_r=0 Link provided so some parties don't get panties in a bunch
  6. When judging what our agencies are actually doing I suggest forgetting what they are saying and look at capabilities - 5 zettabytes of storage = 8000 hrs of audio for every human being on the planet. weasel word of the week is " listening " as we are not listening to your phone calls - which doesn't mean we are not recording your phone calls - from everything I've read, it is likely that everyone's communication is going through screening software, communications that raise flags will be gone over by more software (think of it as a software triage ) until some rise to the level of needing human attention- for human agents to go through flagged communications it is necessary that they are recorded so the real question isn't are our communications being recorded, it's how long are these recordings retained and who under what circumstances have access to them. Personally it concerns me that not only have they outsourced about 70% of this work but these private companies are also empowered to grant security clearances- and while we heard a little bit of what agencies do or don't do with your information (believe or don't believe) I've have yet to hear about safe guards from bad actors.
  7. Kolb will star,t how long depends on how reasonable the idea of being in the playoff hunt seems. . So how long Kolb stays in really depends on how long the Bills stay in the playoff race. My prediction would be Kolb starting 8-12 games then Manuel starting the last 4-8 games- overall I like the direction the Bills seem headed but last year I looked at them with my fan eye instead of my critical eye and it burned me, My fan eye likes the aggressive direction the Bills seem to be moving on both Offense and defense but my critical eye reminds me that a fast paced offense can just be quicker to three and out and that blitzes are often burned. My fan eye likes the talent brought in at WR and QB but my critical eye reminds me that with QB and WR it usually takes a couple seasons for production to match talent.
  8. I judge by this discussion that everyone agrees with our governments calculating of inflation- is that true?
  9. I watch TYT almost every day and Cenk hasn't been a staunch supporter of Obama for at least two years and he has crucified Obama on many issues - Drones, Gitmo, Grand Bargain, not going after banker/Wall Street corruption, fast and furious, ObamaCare (a Heritage foundation plan that is a give away to insurance companies), torture outsourcing, going after medical marijuana, fusion centers that had a merging of FBI, DHS, local police and banking security coordinating together to go after OWS., treatment of wiki leaks and Bradly Manning, Private prisons, the continued merry-go-round of corporate executives becoming regulators/government dept heads then back to corporate executives etc etc. Of course almost none of this displeasure with Obama translates to any love of republicans except occasionally someone like Rand Paul gets a shout out for defending personal freedoms or being against some military entanglements.
  10. Personally I wouldn't cut his mike or threaten him with bad references, I would heckle "Get off the stage virgin" "Do you even lift bro" "boring" and " polite attendance of this part of the speech is strictly voluntary". The whole thing does make me wonder what is fair game to talk about, can someone talk about their love of "Insane Clown Posse" or what ever is today's equivalent or how smoking "OG Ghost Train Haze" change their life for the better- can they go on a Climate change rant - and what are the rules for the captive audience? even Bono and Peter Gabriel only get about three minutes to shill for their cause before the boo birds come out.
  11. Who knew a Michael Cera body double could play ball.
  12. Hard to have proof on a secret operation but lets look at some of the possibilities- insider trading, blackmail, corporate espionage, intellectual property theft, attacking political enemies, preempting protest actions, stalking, character assassination,- and while you may think of this as a government program about 70% of it has been outsourced.
  13. whether you find Snowden is a hero or a traitor probably depends on what America means to you. Is your America found in ideas to be aspired to and fought for? well then maybe he's a hero Is your America intertwined economic interests and established hierarchies of power? well then maybe he's a traitor Is your America pop culture and Walmart consumerism ? well then maybe the question isn't hero or traitor but hot or not hot
  14. The Bills got rid of TJax which was a 1.75 million dollar cap savings and they still have Brad Smith's 2.75 million and I think Brad is a likely cut given the dog fight that sixth WR is going to be. So if worst comes to worse and the Bills have to over pay a little they are still in good shape.
  15. 1. Byrd is a great player, interceptions and forced fumbles are gold and he gets a lot of them, he lacks great speed but is a very solid tackler and has good technique across the board. 2. While the above is true that doesn't mean the Bills wouldn't want to trade him if the deal was right, IMO one of the reasons for this is Aaron Williams, because even though he was a disappointment at CB he has the chance of becoming a very very good free safety. So a good deal for Byrd would help the Bills three ways- getting Aaron Williams in his best position, extra 2014 draft picks, and salary cap room. 3. The problem for the Bills is that of the teams who really need a safety they come in two flavors - 2 playoff contenders who have very little cap space and 2-3 other teams where Safety is just one of many needs and they probably would be loath to give up high draft picks. What all this means in the long run is a long hold out while the Bills get a chance to look at Aaron Williams and other safety prospects, if some of these prospects come through expect Byrd to be traded for less than you'd think, if the prospects are disappointing expect the Bills to make a significant offer increase to attempt to sign Byrd .
  16. 1 I thought it was a extremely weak years for QBs 2.. I thought Smith had the best chance of starting in his first year but at his absolute best had Romo level ability 3. I thought EJ Manuel had the most upside but that his game still had a long way to go Overall I'd probably pass on all the QBs and would have taken Tyler Eifert with the 16th pick but I understand the desire to take a QB and Manuel was my favorite pick among the QBs available, a big swing for the fences which I'm really hope gets us back into the game.
  17. I think Prism is more interesting I wonder if it's an offspring of the semi mythical Carnivore program.
  18. My Dad always said the country started to fall apart when we let the Irish, Italian and Polish in.
  19. bigger
  20. perhaps decimated doesn't mean what you think it does
  21. Maybe a reason for hesitation http://frontpagemag.com/2011/frank-crimi/al-qaeda-joins-the-syrian-rebellion-2/
  22. OC do you never tire of being wrong? here's an exercise for you, go to a mall and ask a thousand random people what they think about (the IRS scandal, the AP scandal or Benghazi) don't explain it just ask, I think you'll find about as much knowledge and interest as when I bring up LIBOR and ICAP manipulation or HSBC money laundering- the upcoming elections are going to depend on fund rising and demographics - you have been miserable in your political predictions and that is because you can't separate how you want things to be with how they are but I'll give you this, I think Obama has blown his chance at a third term.
  23. To those who are just coming to the realization that they live in a surveillance state that would have turned the old KGB green with envy, I say welcome to the party. The NSA Utah data center will start off with 5 zettabytes of memory expanding to yottabytes in the near future, 5 zettabytes is about 700 gigabytes of information for every human being in the world. also there are no free markets we have a two tier legal system our representative government just represents their big donners protest will be allowed, effective protest will not
  24. Yeah but if I suspected that someone was armed I'd have to beat/choke that person into unconsciousness and then relieve them of their weapon- their incapacitation is where I'd have to stop I have no right to continue to beat them to intentionally cause their death but there is a good possibility that the injuries I inflict to render them incapacitated could ultimately lead to their death.
  25. I'm not squeamish about TV violence and expected that there was something bad coming with the wedding but that still left me feeling like someone kicked me in the gut.
