  1. McDermott can’t keep benching Cook for extended periods of time for a drop. Yes, Cook needs to be better with the ball. Yes, fumbles or drops are always costly. But benching him isn’t the answer. We’re not in high school here! Cook needs to know that coaches have his back. If Marv Levy was in this situation, Cook would get the ball on the very next play! On a fumble, or drop, he owes one to his teammates and coaches. Give him that opportunity to pay them back. Let him show his teammates that he has their back also!
  2. My first game was the 1st preseason game at the then new Rich Stadium. My dad used to take my brothers and I on bike rides down to watch them build the stadium. We grew up in the village of Orchard Park. Then to actually go there for the first game played there was beyond what a boy could ever imagine! Then, later in the 70's I went to a Monday Night game when someone had a big picture of Howard Cossell's head superimposed on a picture of a baby on a bearskin rug. Howard stuck his head out of the press box and waved. The place went nuts!!
  3. I think that the original plan with McDermott and Beane was to build for the future; not looking to just make the playoffs and lose in the 1st round, but to plan to make and do damage in the playoffs further down the road. The Bills quick start threw a monkey wrench into that plan and McDermott, being a new HC and not wanting to lose the veterans, started preaching winning both now and later. The last three games brought everything back to reality and back to the original long term vision, hence starting Peterman. Only giving him a few days to prepare for his 1st NFL start wasn't fair to Peterman, if he is seen as a quick fix. I think McDermott thought he would play much better and could afford to stick with him. Now he has to come out on one side or the other; either try to win now with Taylor, or plan for the future and go with a rookie QB. He's in a very tough spot now.
  4. If TT's mobility is his strength, why do the play calls keep him in the pocket? Especially when there are questions about the O-line's play, calling plays that ask him to drop straight back don't appear to make sense. At least give him a chance to run away from trouble by design by rolling him out.
  5. The first thing I thought of when I heard about this was: "what have they been building for all these previous years? What has been their thought process before? Haven't they been building toward something before??
  6. I think you hit it on head with Brandon taken away from all football/personnel decisions. Let him do what he does well: market the team. Don't let him do what he does poorly: football!
  7. Let's hope if TT plays, that he makes it out not hurt worse. The season have too long to go yet! With all our injuries though, we are looking more and more like the Jags talent wise. Let's just get out with a win and everyone not more banged up.
  8. I'm all for the optimism, but we will still need a QB to get them the ball and a better line to keep him standing!
  9. Rex has his defense and all of these new toys for the offense are nice but he'll still need a few new linemen to make it work. I agree leaving Pears behind is a start. Let's hope their plans B, C and D revolve around the O-line.
  10. I guess that all depends on who a new coach is and how quickly he is brought in. What is the date where these 3 players can officially hit the open market?
  11. I realize that the QB play has been poor. That's easy to see. But it seems that a big complaint of our receivers is that they have trouble getting free vs. tight man to man coverage. Why then do they just get in a formation and stay there until the snap? Isn't the idea of going in motion so your receivers can get into better match ups downfield? If we have trouble getting free off the line, why aren't we moving our receivers around pre-snap?
  12. Can someone please explain for me why the Bills have, at times start games 100 miles per hour, then completely seize up? They have had games where they start moving the ball up and down the field, both running and passing. Then after a few drives, the whole thing completely shuts down. I understand that games are made up of adjustments, but what prevents us from making the same adjustments? Is this poor coaching, or not having the athletes to make adjustments?
  13. I agree. It's only something that a "Buffalo fan" would understand. I started to choke up reading it and it was a great feeling! Nothing but pride!!
  14. While I certainly do agree that it would be tough to pass up a "franchise" type of a QB, I'm still not sold on CN. Hasn't Buddy said that he doesn't like to go for guys that haven't played 4 years in college? Especially a QB? There must be a good reason for Buddy to say something like that, especially given Newton's past; with transferring from Florida and with his dad... I don't know if this is a risk worth taking seeing all of the other equally pressing needs we have. Thoughts?
  15. Let's hope not. The closer they stay to the throwbacks, the better. Everytime I see those throwback jerseys, I forget for a moment how bad they have been.
  16. Keeping all three just for depth or in the wish that they will all play up to cababilities is a big risk. What is to say that Lynch, already seeing himself as a #2 behind Jackson, will become a "problem" in the locker room and bench on a team trying to re-make itself? My guess is that a potential reward from Lynch won't be worth the obvious risk.
  17. Does someone have a list of the coaches that turned down either an interview for the job, or the job itself when offered to them? Was Frazier offered the job and then turned it down?
  18. After realizing that Cower was never going to come here, and after hearing that Grimm and Schott Jr. (among others I guess), wouldn't even interview, was Frazier ever even offered the HC position? If so, has anyone heard why specifically he turned it down? Was Gailey "the only one left" even though Nix says he was always high on his radar?
  19. If RW doesn't get a "big name" guy with his $10 mil, or more/year, and he says he has to "settle" for another (cheaper) guy, will he use that left over money for a new GM/front office types, or new players?
  20. I agree 100%. Get a football mind to direct this process. The only catch is that RW would have to admit to being a part of the problem. He would have to OK someone making changes to what he has done himself. Would he really do that?
  21. Does anyone think that RW would hire someone (consultant) to guide the selection process for a new GM? If he really means what he says that he will do whatever it takes to bring a championship to Buffalo, is he willing to say that he needs someone else to help with getting the "right guy" for the job? I, too am not comfortable to trust RW to do this on his own. He needs to be a "big boy" and let someone with a football background help guide the process.
  22. Larry Felser's article today seems right on the mark. http://www.buffalonews.com/opinion/columns...ory/869662.html With Ralph's past history, how are we to believe that he does, in fact have an actual plan to fix things from the ground up? We can only hope that he is willing to call himself a part of the problem, so he can begin to fix what needs to be fixed.
  23. With all that being said about stadium generated revenue and all, I still don't understand how a franchise like Buffalo is "under the gun" to potentially be a candidate to move to "greener pastures." Why aren't other small market teams out there facing the same uncertainty year after year? You don't hear about them worrying about moving all the time. If Ralph was younger, or there was a different local owner, would all of this just go away?
  24. Do we really think he "accepts" losing? Is the financial bottom line more important to him than spending what's needed to at least contend?
  25. It has been posted that there are reports out there saying that plans are already underway creating a new stadium in California and an article quotes a John Semcken as saying "Of the other six teams mentioned, Semcken said "one of those six teams will play in our stadium." This makes it sound like something is already worked out for him to make a statement like that. One of those teams mentioned is the Bills. (http://losangeles.bizjournals.com/losangeles/stories/2009/10/05/daily22.html) While the Bills max out their stadium in attendance on a yearly basis, the other teams on this "list" do not (namely Jacksonville). Are the Bills on such a list purely on the speculation of Wilson's death somewhere in the future, or is it because they are not "viable" in the WNY market? If so, how are the Bills any different than franchises like Kansas City? Is there any credence to this report? And with Ralph Wilson on record as saying that the team will be sold until his passing, how can these plans be put in motion before a team like the Bills is even "available?" My skepticle side tells me that this is all a huge set up, not unlike the movie "The Natural," which ironically was shot in Buffalo. In a nutshell, why has the local, or national media not reported any of this? The possible relocation of an NFL team from a 50 year old home would seem to be newsworthy? If they have, I've missed it.
