  1. Interesting pick since the Redskin faithful felt Kyle was the biggest problem on the team. They wanted Kyle out 3 years ago.

He was the mastermind of the Redskins awful offense last year. I would have thought Pettine would have picked an OC with a successful record. Cleveland will be worse than they were last year but they will retain Pettine another year before letting him go.

  2. ESPN - Redskins backup QB Kirk Cousins open to being traded, believes he's ready to start, sources tell ESPN

How has no one posted this yet? I don't think it would be worth it. I figure they will be asking for a 2nd or 3rd. A 4th should get him. I'd rather toss them a 5th and 6th then a 4th. Of course we have Lewis and Dixon and both are capable backups at this point of our of rebuild. But... it is worth considering. And maybe making a call over.

In fact, how about Thad Lewis + 6th for Cousins? Or Dixon+5th for Cousins?

Not sure if you had a chance to witness Cousins this past season. He played very poorly when given the opportunity at the end of the season. His stock really fell. I wouldn't touch him and not many teams will.

  3. Give EJ a break. He is playing behind a line that is pitiful. Next draft will have to address this issue. A QB has to trust his line and get time to throw. Stevie is a 3rd WR, not a 1. Get a big WR, does not have to be a speedster but get open and catch it. Another inside LB would help. I was ripped on TBD when I was critical of some of the coaches hired to fill out the staff. I think this team is under coached and not prepared to play. Primarily the lines. Each game is a new adventured into the realm of "WTF are they doing?" I look forward to another off season of "fire him/cut him" and draft talk.

Not sure Marrone will recognize talented wr's. I'm thinking Woods, Goodwin, Johnson, Easley and Rogers would have fit the bill for this season. The O line was the worst I have seen in years guards and tight ends are in order. Each season is a new adventure in realm of WTF. We are always hopeful that we are going in the right direction because we are good fans. The reality is that we are being serve a different flavor of BS than the year before that's hard to recognize at the beginning of the seasons so we have hope initially but when it's all said and done we end up right back on WTF Boulevard waiting for the draft.

It's like ground hog day but worse.

  4. If you think the Bills are bad, you should have watched the Redskins game. KC could have scored 70 points it they'd wanted to. By the way, the John Elway creation, Mike Shanahan, is a joke of a coach. Our guy deserves a break as he's just a rookie.

You are right but they are coming off of a playoff year.

The Bills are looking undisciplined and soft. All of the NFL has been bullying the Falcons, Bucs, and Jags. It nice to know they have the Bills to punch around. I'm sure we will be even more creative in losing to the Jags next week.

  5. The season has and will be about Manuel, as far as I'm concerned. Sure, Hackett needs to show some more, too. But Marrone and Pettine have already proved their worth, as far as I'm concerned. If I were in charge, this would be all about seeing if Manuel has enough promise to pass on the chance to upgrade on QB in this next draft. As far as I'm concerned, having TWO franchise caliber QB's - IN CASE ONE OF THEM DOESN'T PAN OUT - is not a crazy idea, and is far better than having one QB who proves not capable, when in retrospect we passed on one or more QB's who prove very good. However, from what I've been reading out of Buffalo lately, it seems like Hackett and Marrone are very happy with Manuel, and already believe he's their man of the future.

I have to question the notion of Marrone and Pettine already proving there worth when we sit at 4-9. Marrone seems like a novice learning on the job whos team has become very soft. He has also made questionable decisions in talent evaluation that have been awful. All he has done is showed us a different path to 5-11 or 6-10 than what we are used to. As Bills fans we seem happy with it because it is different from the same old crap we saw in prior years. But lets not mistake the fact, its just new crap we are being treated to. Manuel needs to be pushed. Why not draft a QB if he is the best player available in round 1 and let the chips fall where they may.

Well, the rookies looked bad, other than Kiko.

And the coaching was horrible, again.

    Sooooooo.

Clearly the best looking rookie was Da'Rick Rogers, oh wait a minute Marrone recognized pretty early that this guy did not have enough talent for his team.

  6. I am sure the Skins will do everything possible to keep him. He is their best defensive player, and the team will be out of the cap jail they have been in the past two years and thus will have money to spend. He is not hitting the market. Even if so, I agree with other posters here saying that going after Orakpo or another premier type free agent is probably not the right move for this team. Stay the course.

I agree. Daniel Snyder's pockets are deep. Orakpo is not going anywhere. I would like to think this regime is better at evaluating talent than the prior. Although any fool could have seen Tavares Jackson would have been a better number 2 than anyone else we have had. Not sure but I think they will address the need for the long term in the draft.
  7. - Bills will not score more than 24 points in a game this season.

    - Like it or not OJ was the best player the Bills ever had.

    - If Buffalo did not have a football team, most people in Buffalo would support the Dolphins or the Cowboys.

    - The majority of the children born in Buffalo have been fathered by Willis McGahee or Travis Henry.

    - The Bills name is just as offensive to guys name Bill as the Redskins are to Native Americans.

    - The Bills should throw Kyle Williams in the Poz pyle and draft a Pat Williams clone.

    - The Bills new uniforms look like knock off Colt uni's. Where is the red?

  8. I mentioned in other threads that Pat White is the best choice out there. Being in the DC area I watched him in pre-season. He was clearly better than Rex Grossman and just as good as Cousins. Keep in mind he took most of the snaps with Cousins and RG3 out.

He has arm strength and he was pretty accurate with his passes. The Redskins were not going to keep him because of Rex Grossman's relationship with Kyle Shanahan. I hope we go with him. He's got the skill set where he may challenge EJ for the job.

I think we will pleasantly surprised.

  9. No designing a scheme utilizing Spiller in space.

No bubble screens to speed receivers. No HB screens to Jackson or Spiller.

No use of rollouts and taking advantage of a mobile quarterback. No misdirection

No use of clock management before half-time.

    What do you guys think?

Hackett is in way over his head.

You have summed up what I have been feeling in the first 3 weeks. Especially on the your first 3 points.

Screens would have worked like a charm today.

  10. The Bills roll over every time we play them. We have to show that we want these games from the coaching staff on down. We have to change this attitude and put games away. Lets face it the Patriots are not the only team we have given games to. Belichek has every reason to look beyond us until we change that. I get tired of hearing it from a coach that probably doesn't have a winning record if you discount the Brady years.

  11. I'll be Capt Obvious.........Some more EXECUTION and a "slow" hurry up would have won that game.

I'm a bit surprised that most of the posters have a either or attitude. It was bad clock management and execution. We can throw in a lack of discipline all game long but the thread detailed the aspect of the hurry up offense on the last possession.

It was a winnable game that we managed to give away.

  12. Yeah, considering that the Patriots got the ball back with 4:30 left on the clock I'm wondering just how much extra time some of these posters think a slowdown approach would've eaten. Not to mention - suddenly a 1-point lead means it's time to go conservative and milk the clock?

We were conservative, run, run, pass all fourth quarter. Would love to have seen some roll outs or passes on first down, a screen to Fred maybe. We might as well burn the clock if we are going to be predictable. Bellichek is big on situational football. It's like we clearly didn't understand the situation.
  13. Are you talking about the "last" possession or when the Bills had the ball with 5 min left? The last possession they had to use the hurry-up. They were behind. With 5 minutes left, I totally agree with using the hurry-up. They had a 1 point lead and needed to score. The Pats had 3 time-outs left, plus the 2 minute warning. There was still alot of football left at that point. No need to milk the clock given the situation. If it was 1 minute left and they used the hurry-up, then I'd be questioning them.

This was the explanation that Marrone gave in the post game interview. I disagree, just because you start managing the clock and get out of the no huddle doesn't mean you change the plays you call or your will to score. This make the other team burn their time outs so when they get the ball back they are pressed for time. I give Marrone a pass due to this being his first game as HC but this is just plain football common sense and a learning point. If he is saying that the only way the Bills can score is in the no huddle then we have a one trick pony that going mis-manage games at the end when we do have leads.
